This Friday begins in Baiona the forty-first edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Banco Sabadell. The competition begins with one of the most exciting tests, the Carrumeiro Chico stage, in which the crews will have to cover a large part of the Galician coast, from the Vigo estuary to the Corcubión estuary.
The regatta is reserved for the largest boats, such as the Gran Fisgón of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Aceites Abril of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the Salseiro of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, the Santorum & Martinez Group of the Club de Mar of Vilagarcía or the Bosch Service Solutions of the Club Marítimo de Canido, among others.
After hearing the starting honk, which will resound in the bay of Baiona at eleven in the morning, the crews will have to face a journey of almost 100 miles in which, according to forecasts, they will be favored by the wind, which It is expected to blow with about 10 knots at the beginning and to increase in intensity as the day progresses.
The fastest boats could reach the Carrumeiro in about six or seven hours, depending on conditions, and finish the test five hours later. The rest of the fleet will arrive back in Baiona late at night or even early on Saturday.
That day, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host the awards ceremony for the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race at its facilities, and it will be on Sunday the 24th when the Conde de Gondomar Trophy – Banco Sabadell Grand Prix will resume, with the second day of races and all the registered fleet already in the water.
