The gala of Premios Nacionales de Vela Terras Gauda will pay tribute next September 7 in Baiona to the Galicia 93 Pescanova, the boat that 25 years ago placed the Galician community on the international sailing map after achieving a podium position in the Whitbread Round the World 93-94.
Five decades after that feat, the team led by Javier de la Gándara from Vigo will receive a distinction for the best sports project at the Monte Real Club de Yates, the club that saw him leave Galicia to make history.
This is a new and well-deserved recognition for a major project that marked a before and after for sailing in Spain and for a crew that managed to conquer the seas aboard a WOR60 known as ” the flying fish” .
The boat, designed by Bruce Farr and built at the Armada de Vigo shipyards, brought together 16 sailors, 7 of them Galician, under the command of De la Gándara. Chuny Bermúdez from Coruña, Jaime Arbones, Marcos Iglesias, Juan Zarauza and Ñaco Eraso from Vigo, and Carlos Sampedro from Baiona; Barcelonans Jan Santana, Joan Vila, Nando Muñoz and Guillermo Altadill joined; Pichu Torcida and Toño Piris from Santander; Victor Unzueta from Cadiz, Paco Fernández from Alicante and Santi Portillo from Malaga.
With the encouragement of the Galician Sailing Federation, the institutional support of the Xunta de Galicia through the Xacobeo and the sponsorship of Pescanova, on May 7, 1993, the launching of the ship was held in Vigo, with the Infanta Cristina as godmother. who would participate in the Whitbread Round the World 93-94. Days later, the Galicia 93 Pescanova left the Monte Real Club de Yates for La Rochelle to take part in the Tour of Europe, which it won; and later in the Fastet Race, where they achieved the first victory for Spain in the legendary regatta. They were “training” for his great goal, which was to win the world tour.
On September 25, from Southampton, the starting point of the sixth edition of the race, they began to forge the legend. Until then, Spain had only participated in a trip around the world on 3 occasions (with the Licor 43 in the 81-82 edition, with the Fortuna Lights in 85-86, and with the Fortuna Extra Lights in 89-90), but this was the first time he did it with an entirely Spanish project, with Spanish sponsorships and crew, which would manage to get on the podium.
Ahead, almost 32,000 miles that meant an adventure, or “madness” as many branded it. They finished the first stage in second place, in the second stage they suffered delamination of the ship’s hull, and despite the fact that some gave it all up for lost, they continued. They fell to fourth place in the classification and in the fifth stage they managed to climb to third position, in which they would finally finish the test.
They made history. And the Galicia 93 project will remain forever in the memory of sailing enthusiasts. His impact, both sporting and social, was immense and his tribute, 25 years later, more than deserved. They will receive it in Baiona, on September 7, at the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards gala, which is held within the framework of the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Military Naval School. They will receive the award for the best sports project.
· The Monte Real summer campaign includes six proposals so that children and adults can learn to sail and enjoy the sea in Baiona
· Daytime sailing camps and weekly dinghy sailing courses are the proposals aimed at the smallest of the house between 7 and 16 years old

The Monte Real Club de Yates has just launched its summer sailing campaign, which includes six proposals with which children and adults can learn to sail and enjoy the sea in Baiona during the months of July, August and September.
For the youngest members of the household, aged between 7 and 16, the Baionese club organizes Weekly light sailing courses , in the morning or afternoon, so that children can have a first contact with sailing or improve their technique with different types of boats if they already know how to sail.
There are also Day Sailing Camps for them, somewhat more complete than the weekly courses, since they include more hours of sailing, both in the morning and in the afternoon, and food service. It is a proposal aimed above all at those families who find it somewhat more difficult to reconcile during the summer and want their children to enjoy and learn in a relaxed atmosphere.
For those over 16 years of age, Monte Real offers weekly cruising sailing courses , also with the option to choose a morning or afternoon schedule. Always accompanied by a coach from the club, with these courses the students learn to sail in the calm waters of the bay of Baiona and end up going out to the open sea to perfect their knowledge on board the sailboat.
And for those who want to learn to sail but do not have a week to attend the course, Monte Real also offers Courses to learn to sail in one day . During a day, from morning to afternoon, the participants will be able to learn the basic maneuvers to handle a boat.
Sailing to the Cíes Islands or at sunset are other proposals from the Monte Real Yacht Club for this summer, aimed above all at families or groups of friends who want to enjoy sailing while learning sailing concepts.
In the case of Sailing to the Cíes Islands, it is a one-day activity, from eleven in the morning to seven in the evening, which includes a sailing trip to the archipelago during which you learn to sail and disembark on the island to eat and have a guided visit to the natural park.
Between July and September there is also the possibility of Sunset Sailing , an activity with which to discover the keys to handling a sailing vessel as the day falls. It lasts three hours and will be offered from July to September.
There are six proposals for the summer season with which the Monte Real Yacht Club wants to bring the world of sailing closer to all those who want to learn about this sport, improve their practice or simply enjoy sailing along the Vigo estuary.

The Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona has just signed Roy Alonso as its new sports director. The former coordinator of the Santander High Performance Specialized Center and technical director of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation will, from now on, be in charge of the sports management of the Baionese club.
With extensive experience in the world of sailing, Roy Alonso will bring his experience as a coach and head of national and Olympic teams to give new life to the Monte Real Sailing School, through which hundreds of students spend each year in its different modalities of light sailing, cruise and adapted.
The implementation of a new strategic plan for the school and the promotion of sporting events at a national and international level are some of the objectives of this 44-year-old from Vigo, who assumes the maximum position of the sports structure of Monte Real as a challenge to face with great enthusiasm and desire.
“In Monte Real there is a great dormant potential and it is my intention to awaken it and promote it,” says Alonso.“What I want is to take advantage of the greatness of this historic club to lay the new foundations for a promising future,” says the new sports director of Monte Real, who already works in Baiona.
A whole life linked to sailing
Roy Alonso takes the reins of the Monte Real Yacht Club Sailing School to mark a new milestone in a lifetime linked to sailing. Since he got on a cadet for the first time at the age of 7, the Galician has not stopped participating in different ways in projects related to the nautical world, which he entered through his father, Gerardo Alonso.
He has been technical director of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, coach of pre-Olympic classes, president of the RFEV Dinghy Sailing Committee, coach and head of the Laser Radial pre-Olympic national team, head coach of the Spanish youth team and coordinator of the Santander Specialized High Performance Center. She also achieved, in Miami, the classification of Spain for the London 2012 Olympic Games in Women’s Match Race with Támara Echegoyen, Sofía Toro and Ángela Pumariega.
For him the candle”it is sport, but also leisure, it is competition and one of the best ways to enjoy the sea. It is a sport that forges personalities and offers unique life experiences to everyone who practices it”.
First stop: the Sailing School summer campaign
One of Roy Alonso’s first tasks as the new sports director of Monte Real will be to lead the summer campaign of the club’s Sailing School, which will be launched shortly and will offer courses in dinghy sailing and cruising during the summer months.
July and August will once again turn the Baionese club into a swarm of students willing to learn to sail or improve their technique in the different courses that are taught for people of all ages, from Monday to Friday during morning or afternoon.
What there will not be, during the summer months, will be activity in the Adapted Sailing School for people with functional diversity, which will celebrate the closing ceremony of the 2018-2019 academic year on the 18th.

40 Optimist sailors from the main sailing schools in Galicia will meet this weekend in Baiona to participate in a new edition of the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy, which the Monte Real Club de Yates is once again organizing with the sponsorship of Baitra Naval Accessories to promote basic sailing in Galicia.
The Club Marítimo de Canido, the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the Club Marítimo Carrumeiro and the Monte Real Club de Yates itself will be represented in the regional competition, which will take place over two days, next Saturday and Sunday.
During the two days that the competition will last, the fleet will compete in four categories: A, B, C and School. For them, the regatta committee will schedule a maximum of six tests inside the Bay of Baiona. They will be trapeze routes lasting approximately 40 minutes, with a shortened route for School sailors.
On Saturday the tests will begin at half past two in the afternoon, once the sailors’ reception in Baiona and the meeting of coaches and committees have finished. The first starting signal on Sunday will be given a little earlier, at half past eleven, with the aim that the regattas can be finished before half past four, the time at which the awards ceremony is scheduled to be held. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category and the winner of each will also receive a check to purchase nautical equipment.
The Baitra Dinghy Sailing Trophy is celebrated one more year thanks to the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales, a company dedicated to the commercialization and distribution of quality naval accessories and equipment, based in Baiona, which for years has maintained a firm commitment to children’s sailing in Galicia.

1. ORGANIZATION
The REPSOL Trophy · Spring Regatta will be organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club (MRCYB) with the sponsorship of REPSOL.
2. PLACE AND DATES
It will be held in the waters of the Vigo estuary and the Bay of Baiona on May 1, 4 and 5, 2019.
3. RULES
3.1 The Regatta will be held in accordance with the provisions in force in the following regulations:
a) The “rules” as defined in the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing 2017 – 2020 (RRS).
b) The 2019 Cruise Technical Regulation and its annexes (RTC).
c) Respective regulations, with the adaptations made by the MRCYB for this regatta, of the J80 and Figaro one-design classes. [NP]
d) The IMS and ORC 2019 Regulations.
e) World Sailing special rules for offshore regattas, category 4 (ORC).
f) This Announcement of Race.
g) The Sailing Instructions, which may modify any of the previous sections.
3.2 The infraction of the Rules in AR and IR of this event indicated as[NP] , it will not be a reason for protests between ships. This modifies Rule 60.1(a) RRS.
3.3 The infraction of the Rules in AR and IR of this event indicated as[DP] , indicates that your penalty may be lighter than disqualification if the Protest Committee so decides. The abbreviation for the discretionary penalty imposed pursuant to this instruction shall be[DPI] .
3.4 The penalty for infractions of the IR indicated as[SP] they will be fixed, without a hearing and imposed by the Regatta Committee in each test infringed during the day (modifies Rules 63.1 and A5 of the RRS).
4. PARTICIPANTS
4.1 Participation in this regatta is limited to boats with an ORC International or Club certificate valid for 2019, whose GPH is less than 770 s/mile, as well as the J80 and Figaro monotypes.
4.2 Groups and Classes.
An ORC group is established that will be divided into classes, as well as those of the different monotypes:

(*) In ORC, in view of the registrations made and as soon as their effective participation in the regatta is verified, the Regatta Committee and Organizing Committee will establish the classes and cuts of the same, seeking the greatest possible equity, not admitting claims about it.
(**) The Figaros, if they do not achieve the minimum number of 3 to compete as a one design, will race in ORC with an estimated GPH, no claims being accepted in this regard.
4.3 To form a class, there must be a minimum of 5 registered (except in Figaros, which will be a minimum of 3).
4.4 One designs will only compete in their class and in real time.
5. ELIGIBILITY
5.1 Participants must comply with the eligibility conditions reflected in Regulation 19 of the World Sailing and the prescriptions of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation related to said regulation.
5.2 Participants of nationality or legal residence in Spain must be in possession of the athlete’s federation license for 2019.
6. ADVERTISING [NP] [DP]
6.1 Participants may display advertising, in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 20 of World Sailing and the Advertising and Competition Regulations of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation.
6.2 In accordance with World Sailing Regulation 20, participants may be required to display advertising on the forward 20% of the hull, on each side of the boat and on the sides of the boom, as well as possible advertising pennants on the backstay of each boat. All this would be provided at the MRCYB race office once your registration is confirmed.
6.3 Modifications to the stickers provided by the organizing committee are not allowed. Violation of this IR will entail a penalty of 2 places in the test.
6.4 The Monte Real Club de Yates reserves the right to demand the elimination or substitution of any type of publicity, message or image displayed during the celebration of the event of the boats or the equipment of their crew members, which does not comply with the moral and ethical standards of general acceptance (Regulation 20 of the World Sailing) or contravene the interests of the organizing club. This includes holding races on the regatta course, at the club’s facilities or while at the regatta committee’s disposal.
6.5 The owner or skipper of the boat with advertising will be asked to indicate or show the type of advertising that will be displayed during the celebration of the regatta, for the approval of the organizing committee.
6.6 The participating owners and crews grant their authorization to the MRCYB so that any photograph, image or video of people or boats taken during the days of the regatta may be published in any medium, such as television advertisements, editorial comments, information , advertising, etc
7. INSCRIPTIONS AND BONUSES
7.1 Entries will necessarily be formalized on the official form (it accompanies this document and/or is available at www.mrcyb.es).

7.3 The registration fees must be made in the name of the Monte Real Yacht Club by means of a transfer or payment made in the current account that is set out below (indicating the name of the boat):
7.4 To be accepted, an application for registration must be submitted or submitted with the following documentation:
• Registration form duly completed and signed.
• Photocopy of the updated licenses of all the crew members of the ship.
• For foreign athletes who do not have a federative license or athlete’s medical insurance that insures them in the event of an accident, they must prove that they have insurance against accidents and illness valid in Spain.
• Valid and signed ORC measurement certificate (ORC fleet only).
• Certificate of payment of the annual fee of the Class Association (J80).
• Photocopy of civil liability insurance and damage to third parties for a minimum coverage of €336,556 and coverage for all crew members on board and policy extension for participation in non-professional regattas.
• List of security elements (depending on whether ORC or Monotype) duly covered and signed.
7.5 The application for registration must have the approval of the Organizing Committee of the Monte Real Club de Yates.

7.7 Final registration period
The final registration period for the regatta will be April 29, 2019. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to extend said period. If registrations are accepted after the deadline, the cost of these will be increased by 20%.
7.8 Registration of Participants
Each owner or skipper must register and personally sign the registration form at the MRCYB Regatta Office before 11:00 a.m. on May 1, 2019.
7.9 Admission of Participants
The registration of a boat will not be accepted if, before the time indicated in section 7.8, it does not present the documents specified in 7.4 at the Regatta Office or does not have the approval of the Organizing Committee.

8.2 On Sunday, May 5, no attention signal will be given later than 2:30 p.m. GPS time.
8.3 A maximum of 5 tests are scheduled for all classes. The regatta will be valid for classes that have held and scored at least one test.
8.4 The Sailing Instructions may introduce variations in the routes or in the scheduled program, depending on the circumstances that occur, mainly weather.
9. INSPECTION AND MEASUREMENTS [DP]
Measurements and daily checks of certificates and safety may be carried out by the measurement committee on regatta days.
10. SCORE
10.1 The Low Score System Appendix A4 of the RRS will apply.
10.2 There will be no discards.
11. COMPENSATION SYSTEM AND RANKINGS
11.1 ORC rankings will be established according to one of the following compensation systems:
For cruise, compound route, and if not possible:
a) Applying the values specified in each certificate for Ocean PCS, if the wind is stable.
b) Offshore OSN, if there are large roles and oscillations in wind intensity.
All this always at the discretion of the regatta official, not admitting claims in this regard.
11.2 Class classifications will be established (provided that the provisions of points 4.2. and 4.3 are met).
11.3 One design classes will only qualify in real time.
12. SECURITY [NP] [DP]
12.1 The safety of the regatta is considered as Category 4, in accordance with the Special Rules of Regatta of the World Sailing (for one designs they will be specific to them).
12.2 The participants undertake to carry on board, under their responsibility, the updated regulatory documentation of the vessel, as well as the appropriate qualification for the management of the vessel and the navigation to be carried out.
13. PRIZES
The list of prizes will be exposed in the TOA, in view of the participants and registered, before the start of the 1st test.
14. BERTHS
The boats formally registered in this regatta that do not belong to the MRCYB fleet, will have a reserved mooring or anchoring place (mooring under the exclusive responsibility of the owner or skipper), free of charge at the MRCYB, during the days of the regatta and until Sunday. May 5th.
15. COMMUNICATIONS [NP] [DP]
15.1 The Race Committee will use Channel 72 VHF for its communications during the celebration of the tests.
15.2 All participating boats must have an operational VHF radio receiver installed on board, equipped with at least VHF channels 09 (156.450Mhz), 16 (156.800Mhz) and 72 (156.610Mhz).

16.1 The award ceremony will take place on the terrace of the MRCYB, once the general classifications of the tests have been published on May 5, 2019 (approximately 4:30 p.m.).

17. LIABILITY
17.1 All boats participating in the regatta do so at their own risk and responsibility.
17.2 The Monte Real Club de Yates, the organizing authority or any other person or body involved in the organization of the event, rejects any responsibility for loss, damage, injury or inconvenience that may occur to people or things, both on land and at sea, as a result of participating in the tests covered by this Notice of Race.
17.3 Attention is drawn to Fundamental Rule 4 DECISION TO RACE in part 1 of the RRS which states:
“It is the sole responsibility of a ship to decide whether to participate in a test or if it continues in regatta”.
· More than twenty boats will compete for the Comunica Trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club
· The start will be given at two in the afternoon in front of the transatlantic pier in Vigo and the finish line will be placed inside the Bay of Baiona
· The awards ceremony for the winners will be held at seven in the afternoon at Monte Real
More than twenty boats will compete this Holy Saturday in the Vigo estuary for a new edition of the Comunica Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.
The regatta committee, chaired by Fernando Giraldo, will start the race at two in the afternoon in front of the transatlantic dock in Vigo, from where the sailboats will begin a journey of about 15 miles that will take them to the outskirts of Baiona.
After turning at an unmarking mark, the fleet must comply with several obligatory steps, located at the La Negra, Subrido and Carallones marks, to finally reach the bay of Baiona, where the finish line will be installed.
Among the clubs that will compete in this new edition of the Comunica Trophy, are the Ro Yachts Club, represented by the Abal Lawyers-Lagar de Pintos-Fanautic de Mariano Dios; the Bouzas Maritime Lyceum, with the Salao by Juan Carlos Sigre; the Maritime Club of Canido, with the Bosch Service Solutions by Ramón Ojea; the Rías Baixas Maritime Club, with the Galopín by José Luis Mosquera; the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo, with La Burla Negra by Juan José Martínez; the Monte Real Yacht Club, with the Yess Too by Rui Ramada; or the Nautical Club of Portonovo, represented by the Albarellos , by Fernando Rey.
After opening the season with the J80 Winter League, the Comunica Trophy is the first cruise competition on the Monte Real calendar, which has seven more competitions planned for 2019, including the famous Conde de Gondomar Trophy (in July) and the Prince of Asturias Trophy (in September).

The Monte Real Club de Yates inaugurates its 2019 cruise season this Easter with the celebration, next Holy Saturday, of the Comunica Trophy, a coastal regatta between Vigo and Baiona that the participating sailboats will compete in starting at two in the afternoon .
It will be at that time that the regatta’s starting horn will be heard in front of the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which once again collaborates with Monte Real in organizing the competition.
From Vigo to Baiona, the Comunica Trophy fleet will have to complete a 15-mile route in which, according to forecasts, a favorable wind will remain, some strong enough to allow them to complete the route without incident. The regatta will also be held on a fairly clear day, with pleasant temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees, and little sea.
Among the participating fleet are some of the winners of the previous edition, who will seek to revalidate victory. This is the case of the Portuguese Rui Ramada, who in 2018 won the victory of his class aboard the MBA Atlántico and who this time will participate at the controls of the Yess Too.
Another of the 2018 winners will also be among the participants, the Balea Dous of the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira, with the usual good work of Luis Pérez at the controls.
Another company that has also announced its participation in the competition is Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions, from the Club Marítimo de Canido, who will return for the gold that escaped him the previous year, in which he had to make do with third place bronze. Among the J80, the winner of the last edition also repeats, which was Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva.
The registration period to participate in the Comunica Trophy is still open and anyone who wishes to compete can register until the day of the regatta itself. Registration is free and participating boats will also have a 50 percent discount on registration for the Repsol Trophy, which Monte Real organizes once again to coincide with the May 1 long weekend.
The Comunica Trophy is sponsored, for the third consecutive year, by Comunica Comunicación Visual, a firm that offers printing services, signs, industrial design, acrylic items… throughout Galicia from the municipality of A Guarda, where its main headquarters are located. Several of its managers and area managers will participate in the awards ceremony for the winners, which will be held on the same Saturday as the competition starting at seven in the afternoon at the Monte Real Club de Yates facilities.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the last round of the J80 Winter League will be held, which the Monte Real Club de Yates has been organizing for the one-design fleet since January.
Starting at three in the afternoon, the Bay of Baiona will be the scene of a new dispute between the J80 fleet for a place on the winners’ podium. There will be three new tests that will close the scoreboard and define the final classification.
The Okofen of Javier de la Gándara, the Cansino of Fernando Yáñez and the Namasté of Luis de Mira are the sailboats with the most options to sneak into the final podium, since they currently occupy the three positions of honor.
Okofen , with 7 points and the usual good work of De la Gándara, has many possibilities to win the gold of the competition, since, in addition, the margin of 6 points that he managed to get from his most direct rivals gives him some peace of mind .
Cansino and Namasté , very regular and with good performances throughout the league, remain tied on 13 points in second and third place respectively, and are the ones with the best chance, together with Okofen , of closing the league by ensuring a trophy.
In the middle part of the classification everything is very open since there are many jacks grouped in a very narrow point band. Carlos Hernández’s Miudo is fourth with 18 points, followed by Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo , Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva and María Campos’ Pazo de Cea with 20, 21 and 22 points respectively.
With this panorama in the provisional classification tomorrow, Saturday, the last day will be held with a forecast of good wind to celebrate the three final tests. At the end in the water, the awards ceremony on land and a seafood dinner for the participants.

Tomorrow, Thursday, in Baiona, the Monte Real Yacht Club is organizing the 4th Seminar on Adapted Sailing Education in Baiona, an initiative aimed at offering specialized theoretical-practical training to future sports technicians from Galicia and Portugal.
Several coaches from the Baiona club will be in charge of giving a seminar that will include theoretical-practical sessions from half past ten in the morning until six in the afternoon. Fifty students from the IES Terra de Turonio (Gondomar – Pontevedra), the IES Porto do Son (A Coruña), the IPVC Viana do Castelo (Portugal) and ASEM Galicia will participate in them.
In the exhibitions, round tables and baptisms of the sea, issues such as the importance of adapting the teachings to the needs of the user with functional diversity, the need to adapt infrastructures and sports elements or the use of specific teaching resources will be addressed.
And all under the prism of the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club, which since 2012 offers people with functional diversity the opportunity to learn and practice sailing under equal conditions.
Over the last six years, more than 300 students with physical, psychosocial, cognitive and sensory disabilities have sailed on the club’s adapted boats thanks to the inclusive sailing courses that Monte Real has organized with the support of Fundación Repsol and the Xunta de Galicia through the Department of Social Policy and Galician Sport.
Improving the physical and emotional level of people with disabilities, increasing their self-esteem, encouraging relationships between colleagues, generating motivation and making them enjoy direct contact with nature, bringing them closer to the sea, are the main benefits achieved with sailing activities adapted.
Next Saturday, March 9, from 12:00 to 13:00, Radio Galega will broadcast the special Convivir Deportivo program that Alfonso Pardo and his team recorded at the club.
For one hour, Galician public radio will address the history and current affairs of the Monte Real Yacht Club , with interventions by the president and vice president of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza ; Admiral Rafael Lorenzo ; the club’s manager, Óscar Calero ; and the sailing coach, David Fontán .
We will also listen to the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal ; the president of the Baiona Fishermen’s Association, Susana González ; or the head of the port of Monte Real, Javier Álvarez , among others.

Traditionally, the J80 class does not sell its national and international titles cheaply and everything indicates that the XII Spanish J80 Championship, which will be held starting tomorrow Saturday in Baiona as part of the Repsol Trophy of Monte Real, is going to present a tough contest between the boats that will haggle for the scepter.
Cantabria with four J80 monotypes, the Balearic Islands with two, Galicia with nearly a fortnight and the Basque Country with one representative, present credentials for the dispute over the Spanish Championship for the competitive J80 boats.
The intense activity that the Cantabrian, Galician and Basque fleets have developed throughout the autumn and winter, under an intense program of regattas in their respective venues, presumes intense competition. After a day of measurements and reviews, the tests for the national title begin this Saturday at three in the afternoon.
Favorites with impeccable track record
The local Javier de la Gándara and his team aboard the Okofen and the J80 Virazón de Miguel Lago will put their great performance in recent months and their knowledge of the area’s regatta course into play against other rivals who will go all out.
This is the case of the Cantabrian Mercury of Jaime Piris, runner-up in Spain 2017, or the Maui Jim Sunglasses of the Menorcan Javier Aguado who closed the national podium last year. In addition, we must take into account the AD Garatu Basque team skippered by Juan Vázquez, third classified in the prestigious French regatta Spi Ouest 2018.
From the Balearic Islands, Ibo.es de Chacártegui will try to revalidate the national victory it achieved in 2016. The two-time world champion team from Cantabria, Aila, normally skippered by José María Torcida, will present a new skipper in the fight for the national title.
In total, more than twenty J80 monotypes that until Tuesday, May 1, will fight relentlessly to register their name in a national benchmark at a sporting level due to their great competitive level and that is part of the Repsol Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club. from Baiona.
Cruisers, figaros and J70 compete for “spring”
Forty-one years in 2018 one of the competitions with the longest run of the Monte Real Yacht Club, the Spring Regatta, which once again becomes the Repsol Trophy thanks to the sponsorship of the energy company, turns forty-one years old.
In this forty-first edition, in addition to the contest for the national J80, we will see some of the most outstanding cruisers in the Galician nautical scene compete, such as the Fend la Bise by Jean Claude Sarrade or the Gaias Clinic by José María Peinó, both champions Galician solitaires and two.
Also competing for the three scheduled coastal cruisers will be the recent winners of the Monte Real Winter Regatta, the Atlantic MBA of the Portuguese Rui Ramada; the Oral Group of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo skippered by Pedro Pazos; and the Balea Dous by Luis Pérez, wearing the Rodeira nautical pendant.
Among the J70, which will compete at the Cíes Islands anchorage during the weekend, renowned sailors such as Pichu Torcida, Rayco Tabares or Luis Bugallo, in addition to the Pérez Canal brothers. Completing the classes of the trophy are the Figaros, a fleet in which the monotypes of Monte Real will be the protagonists.

The Rías Baixas will witness tomorrow, Saturday, the dispute over the Comunica Trophy, one of the most outstanding cruise events in the spring nautical calendar in Galicia, in which more than 200 regattas will participate aboard the 31 sailboats registered so far. This is the first major cruise trophy of the Monte Real Club de Yates in 2018, which also has the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo and the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, hosting the departures of the fleet in front of their facilities.
The double start, from Sanxenxo and from Vigo, is the main novelty of this year’s Comunica Trophy, and it will take place one hour apart. At one in the afternoon the horn will sound in the vicinity of the Juan Carlos I marina, in Sanxenxo; and an hour later, at two o’clock, it will be the start in front of the port of Vigo. Both fleets will end up coming together on a route that will end in the bay of Baiona.
Among the contenders for the title we will see the winner of the previous edition in the cruiser-regatta category, the Oral Group, from the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, who returns to the competition with Pedro Pazos at the controls and eager to repeat victory. The winner of the previous year in the cruise category will also compete, Luis Pérez’s Balea Dous, who will try to win one of the trophy prizes from the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira.
Among the J80 participants will be some of the monotypes that at the end of the month will compete in the Spanish Championship of the class held in Baiona, such as Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino or Luis de Mira’s Namasté . And in the Figaro class we will see some of the youngest sailors, since the sailboats will be crewed mainly by students from the Monte Real Club de Yates Sailing School.
If everything goes according to plan, the navigation of the fleet will be more or less agile and the fastest ships could have completed the journey in just over three hours, so that from five in the afternoon they would begin to see the first candles in the vicinity of the Baiones breakwater, where the finish line will be placed.
For all those who wish to follow the competition, the Juan Carlos I marina and the beaches closest to that area will be the points with the best visibility to see the departure of the fleet from Sanxenxo, while the departure from Vigo can be seen from the surroundings of the boat. The Costa de la Vela, the westernmost of the Morrazo peninsula, will be another of the places from which to enjoy sailing the sailboats, as well as the interior of the Bay of Baiona, the end point of the route.

The Comunica Trophy will unite this Saturday the fishing towns of Sanxenxo, Vigo and Baiona in what will be the first major cruise competition organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club in 2018.
With the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, the Real Club Náutico de Vigo and the Galician Sailing Federation, the Baiona club changes the format of the trophy this year and adds a new coastal route to the Vigo-Baiona route, between Sanxenxo and Baiona.
There will therefore be two starting points with different distances to the same arrival point. The sailboats that listen to the starting line in the port of Lilac will have to complete about 18 miles to the bay of Baiona, and those that do the same from the Vigo yacht will have a journey of about 12 miles ahead of them.
If the wind is allied with the organization and allows the scheduled program to be fulfilled, the regatta committee will start at one in the afternoon for the Sanxenxo fleet and at two for the Vigo fleet, and will set some obligatory points of passage until the finish line, which will be located near the Baiona breakwater.
In addition to cruiser and cruiser-regatta type sailboats, J80 and Fígaros class one-designs may participate in the competition, which will take place in real time; and there will also be an Open class for boats with less competitive capacity.
In the absence of several days for the registration period to close, which will remain open until the day before the development of the tests, some of the most outstanding sailing cruisers in Galicia have already confirmed their presence in the competition, such as the Fend la Bise by Jean Claude Sarrade, current Galician champion of solitaire and two; La Burla Negra, by Juan José Martínez; or the Bosch Service Solutions, of Commodore de Canido, Ramón Ojea. A large number of J80s will also participate, as they continue to prepare for the Spanish Championship of the class to be held in Baiona at the end of April.
Once the trophy tests are finished, the prizes will be awarded to the winners, in an event that will be held at the Monte Real Club de Yates and in which, among others, representatives of the organizing club and Comunica, the sponsoring company, will participate. It is a visual communication firm that offers its services throughout Galicia from the municipality of A Guarda, where its headquarters are located.
In the last edition of the Comunica Trophy, the Oral Group Galimplant, from the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, skippered by Pedro Pazos; and the Balea Dous of the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira, led by Luis Pérez; in the Cruise-Regatta and Cruise categories respectively. The Portuguese sailboat Miudo, armed by the prominent Portuguese sailor Rui Ramada and skippered by his daughter Francisca Barros, won this weekend the Infinitus Rent Trophy, the J80 one-design winter league organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club from last January.
After more than three months of competition, the championship said goodbye to Baiona with the sixth and last day of tests, in which the participating sailboats disputed the last three regattas that ended up defining the winners’ podium. Three races that were held in very good conditions and that allowed the excitement to be maintained until the end, with the crews giving their best on the water.
The grand prize of the Infinitus Rent Trophy was finally won by the Miudo, a boat from the BB Douro club in Vila Nova de Gaia that sails through the Monte Real Club de Yates, in which Francisca Barros and Afonso Leite alternated at the helm. Both skippers, the youngest in the competition, kept the Miudo in the positions of honor during practically all the tests and resolved the championship on the last day, ascending to the first position.
Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who reached the final among the favorites to win, tied on points in the standings with Miudo, once again sneaked onto the winners’ podium, but this time with the medal bronze. The silver of the Infinitus Rent Trophy went to Miguel Lago’s Virazón, who fought throughout the competition to stay in the positions of honor and finally succeeded.
El Cansino of the commodore of Monte Real, Fernando Yáñez; and the Meltemi of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, skippered by Guillermo Blanco; They maintained the fourth and fifth position that they had dragged from the penultimate day.
The end of the competition was put by a fellowship dinner held in Baiona, which was attended by shipowners, sailors, collaborators, regatta committee managers and the organizing club. Also present were the operations manager of Infinitus Rent, Luis Ángel Martín; the company’s business development director, Alberto Rodríguez; and Jorge Otero, commercial delegate in Spain and Latin America of the sponsoring firm, a company born from the union of four technology leasing marketing companies in Spain, with more than 7 years of experience in the sector and an annual turnover of around 12 million of euros.
Prepared for the Spanish Championship of the J80 class
The Infinitus Rent Trophy has served the Monte Real Yacht Club in preparation for the Spanish J80 Championship, which the club will host at the end of next April. Its one-design fleet, the largest in Galicia and one of the most outstanding in the peninsula, will participate in its entirety in the national class, to which the club’s crews attend with aspirations of winning the title.
Baiona will begin to receive the sailboats arriving from different parts of Spain in the last week of April and, after a previous day, reserved for the registration and weighing of the crews, the competition will begin on Saturday the 28th, and will continue for 4 days. The national J80, framed in the Repsol Trophy, will end on May 1st with the last races and the awards ceremony for the winners.
The J80 make way for the rest of the classes
The J80 monotypes opened the sports calendar of the Monte Real Club de Yates for this 2018, a program that includes a total of 15 competitions. After the Infinitus Rent Trophy, held between January and March, April will be the month of the Comunica Trophy and the Repsol Trophy, the traditional spring regatta that the club has been holding for more than 40 years.
The classic 6m sailboats will be the protagonists of the month of May, in the regatta 525 anniversary of the arrival of the caravel La Pinta; and in June the Galician Championship of Solitaires and Two will be held in Baiona. The club’s two major events, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy and the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, maintain the same dates as in previous years, and will be held at the end of July and the beginning of September.

The Monte Real Yacht Club and the Royal Cork Yacht Club (Ireland) have just signed an exchange agreement between clubs with the aim of promoting international tourism.
The commodore of the Monte Real Yacht Club, Fernando Yáñez, and his counterpart from the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Pat Farnan, were in charge of ratifying an agreement whose main objective is to strengthen relations.
The agreement will make it possible to promote joint actions related to international nautical tourism between Ireland and Spain, applying significant discounts to the members of both clubs on their visits to both facilities.
The Royal Cork Yacht Club is one of the most important yacht clubs in the world and is considered one of the oldest. It was founded in 1720 and is currently located in Crosshaven (Cork). Every year it organizes the biennial Cork Week, one of the most important sailing events in Europe, and its partners include renowned sailors and Olympic athletes.

RULES
The Regatta will be run according to the provisions in force of the following regulations:
a) The “rules” as defined in the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing 2017 – 2020 (RRS).
b) The 2018 Cruise Technical Regulation and its annexes (RTC).
c) Respective regulations with the adaptations made by the MRCYB for this regatta of the J80 and figaros one-design classes.
d) The IMS and ORC 2018 Regulations.
e) World Sailing Special Rules for Offshore Regattas, Category 4 (ORC).
f) This Announcement of Race.
g) The Sailing Instructions, which may modify any of the previous sections.
PARTICIPANTS
Participation in this regatta is limited to boats with an ORC International or Club certificate valid for 2018, whose GPH is less than 770 s/mile, as well as the J80 and Figaro monotypes.
Groups and Classes:
An ORC group is established that will be divided into classes, as well as those of the different monotypes:

(*) In ORC, in view of the registrations made and as soon as their effective participation in the regatta is verified, the Regatta Committee and Organizing Committee will establish the classes and cuts of the same seeking the greatest possible equity, not admitting claims about.
(**) In the Special Open Class, only authentically No Level boats will be admitted in the classes indicated in (*) and that do not have a minimum competitive capacity despite their size and GPH, as well as especially slow designs, very old, etc.
– In any case, the Regatta Committee and the Organizing Committee of the regatta will have the power to include, at their discretion, in the Open Class the boats they deem appropriate, not admitting claims in this regard.
(***) The Figaros, if they do not achieve the minimum number of 3 to compete as a one design, will race in ORC with an estimated GPH, no claims being accepted in this regard.
To form a class, there must be a minimum of 5 registered (except in Figaros, which will be a minimum of 3).
The monotypes will compulsorily compete on the route from the Ria de Vigo. And they will rank only in their class.
ELIGIBILITY
Participants must comply with the eligibility conditions reflected in Regulation 19 of World Sailing and the prescriptions of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation related to said regulation.
Participants of nationality or legal residence in Spain must be in possession of the sports federation license for 2018.
ADVERTISING
Participants may display advertising in accordance with the provisions of World Sailing Regulation 20 and the FGVELA Advertising and Competition Regulations.
In accordance with World Sailing Regulation 20, participants may be required to display advertising on the forward 20% of the hull on each side of the boat and on the sides of the boom, as well as possible advertising pennants on the backstay of each boat. All this would be provided at the MRCYB race office (*) once your registration is confirmed.
(*) Also on Saturday the 21st, at the RCN Vigo and RCN Sanxenxo regatta offices, the regatta instructions and stickers will be handed out.
Modifications to the stickers provided by the organizing committee are not allowed. Violation of this IR will entail a penalty of 2 places in the test.
The Monte Real Club de Yates reserves the right to demand the elimination or substitution of any type of advertising, message or image displayed during the celebration of the event of the boats or the equipment of their crew members, which does not comply with the moral and ethical standards of general acceptance (Regulation 20 of the World Sailing) or contravene the interests of the organizing club. This includes holding races on the regatta course, at the club’s facilities or while at the regatta committee’s disposal.
The owner or skipper of the boat with advertising will be asked to indicate or show the type of advertising that will be displayed during the celebration of the regatta, for the approval of the organizing committee.
The participating owners and crews grant their authorization to the MRCYB so that any photograph, image or video of people or boats taken during the days of the regatta may be published in any medium, such as television advertisements, editorial comments, information, advertising etc.

• Photocopy of the updated licenses of all the crew members of the ship.
• For foreign athletes who do not have a federative license or athlete’s medical insurance that insures them in the event of an accident, they must prove that they have insurance against accidents and illness valid in Spain.
• Valid ORC measurement certificate (ORC fleet only).
• Class Association annual fee payment certificate (J80).
• Photocopy of civil liability insurance and damage to third parties for a minimum coverage of €336,556 and coverage for all crew members on board, and policy extension for participation in non-professional regattas.
• List of security elements (depending on whether ORC or Monotype) duly covered and signed.
The application for registration must have the approval of the Organizing Committee of the Monte Real Club de Yates.

Registration of Participants: Each owner or skipper must register and personally sign the registration form at the MRCYB regatta office (*) before 1:00 p.m. on April 21, 2018
The registration of a boat will not be accepted if, before the time indicated in paragraph 7.6, it does not present the documents specified in 7.3 at the regatta office (*) or does not have the approval of the organizing committee.
(*) On Saturday the 21st, at the RCN Vigo and RCN Sanxenxo regatta offices, participants will also be able to confirm registrations and will be given the Regatta Instructions and advertising stickers for the boats
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to admit registrations after the indicated date.
PROGRAM
After the awards ceremony, a Baiona – RCN Vigo – RCN Sanxenxo bus will leave for sailors who request it at the time of registration.
The sailing instructions will show the different courses that can be done for all or for the different classes if necessary.
Except for the Monotypes that will always leave from Vigo, the ships of the ORC fleet will be able to choose to leave from Sanxenxo or from Vigo.
INSPECTION AND MEASUREMENTS
Measurements and certificate and safety checks may be carried out by the measurement committee before and after the regatta.
PUNCTUATION
The Low Score System Appendix A4 of the RRV will apply.
COMPENSATION SYSTEM AND CLASSIFICATIONS
ORC rankings will be established according to one of the following compensation systems:
For the Classification of each version, North or East:
a) Composite route, and if not possible,
a.1) Applying the values specified in each certificate for Ocean PCS if the wind is stable.
a.2) Offshore OSN if there are large roles and oscillations in wind intensity.
And for the Joint Classification of both versions, GPH will be applied.
All this always at the discretion of the regatta official, not admitting claims in this regard.
Class classifications will be established (provided that the provisions of points 4.2. and 4.3 are met).
Monotype classes will only classify in real time.
SECURITY
The safety of the regatta is considered as Category 4 (ORC) in accordance with the Special Rules of Regatta of the World Sailing (for one-designs it will be a specific one adapted for it).
The participants undertake to carry on board, under their responsibility, the updated regulatory documentation of the boat, as well as the appropriate qualification for the handling of the boat and the navigation to be carried out.
AWARDS
The list of prizes will be exposed in the TOA and the club’s website in view of the participants and registered, before the start of the test.
BERTHS
The boats formally registered in this regatta and that do not belong to the MRCYB fleet, will have a free mooring or anchoring place (mooring under the exclusive responsibility of the owner or skipper) reserved in the MRCYB during the regatta days (April 21). The free mooring can be extended until Sunday May 6 if they participate in the Spring Regatta- REPSOL Trophy on April 28, 29 and May 1, 2018.
COMMUNICATIONS
The Race Committee will use channel 72 VHF for its communications during the events. All participating boats must carry on board an operational VHF radio receiver equipped with, at a minimum, VHF channels 09 (156.450Mhz), 16 (156.800Mhz) and 72 (156.610Mhz).
OFFICIAL SOCIAL ACTS
The awards ceremony will take place at the MRCYB on the same day as the regatta, Saturday April 21, where a sailor’s feast will also be served.
RESPONSIBILITY
All boats participating in the regatta do so at their own risk and responsibility.
The Monte Real Club de Yates, as the Organizing Committee or any other person or body involved in the organization of the event, rejects any responsibility for loss, damage, injury or inconvenience that may occur to persons or things, both on land and at sea, as consequence of participating in the tests covered by this Notice of Race.
Attention is drawn to the Fundamental Rule 4 DECISION TO RACE, of part 1 of the RRS that establishes:
“It is the exclusive responsibility of a boat to decide whether to participate in a test or to continue racing”
