Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen once again demonstrated this Saturday why it is one of the best J80s in Galicia after winning, once again, the Winter League that the Monte Real Club de Yates organizes for the 8-meter monotypes.

The sailboat led by the historic sailor from Vigo and with Diego Fernández and Jaime Gándara as base crew, who were joined by different sailors in the different days, added its fifth title in the competition (the fourth consecutive) after those achieved in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

He did it with a final balance of 14 points derived from almost perfect partials (1-2-1-3-1-1-1-1-1-1-1), from discarding his two worst results from the classification (a 4th place and one offline) and to beat the second and third classified by 12 and 29 points.

The general director of Baitra Accesorios Navales, Juan Carlos González, was in charge, as sponsor of the event, of delivering the trophy to a team that will surely be talked about in the remainder of the regatta season, not only in the J80 leagues but also in the other competitions in which the 8 meters participate with their own class.

After collecting his award, Javier de la Gándara was very satisfied with having achieved this fifth league victory, and if he did so, he said, “in a competition in which it is increasingly difficult to win because -as he assured- the quality of the crews has increased a lot and there are teams that sail very well” . For the sailor it was a “very complete league, with many tests and very good wind “, which allowed them to enjoy sailing.

The awards ceremony and subsequent fellowship dinner put an end to a day in which the nerves in the water were especially noticeable. Everyone wanted to adjust their positions as much as possible and improve their results for the final classification and they ended up forcing a general call in the first race and a couple of off-lines in the other two races.

With a north wind that blew with good intensity and a regatta field located between the Virgen de la Roca and las Estelas, the first two races were for Okofen and the third and last for Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto, who finished second. overall and took the Winter League silver with 22 points.

Manel Cunha’s Marías, who had all the ballots to close the winners’ podium, did not go out to compete this Saturday, and that caused him to lose all his options to hang a medal. He left Alejandra Suárez’s Cansino free to climb into the third drawer and hang the bronze with 43 points.

The group of the five best in the one design league was closed by Spaco de Santiago Estévez, fourth with 59 points; and the Portuguese Marías, fifth with 69. The trophies were delivered, in addition to the CEO of Baitra, Juan Carlos González; the mayor of Baiona, Carlos Gómez; and the deputy for Economic Promotion of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Raquel Giráldez.

The Baitra J80 Winter League held during these first four months of the year in Baiona once again revealed the good health enjoyed by the 8 meters in Galicia. A state that is not only reflected in the progressive increase in units but also in the improvement that led to the arrival of coach Carlos Llamas among the crews to prepare the teams for the Spanish Championship and the World Cup that Baiona will host this year and the next. .

With the closing of the one-design league, the Monte Real Yacht Club is now preparing to launch its cruise season, which will begin this month of April with the celebration, on the 23rd, of the Comunica Trophy; and the Repsol Trophy on April 29 and 30 and May 1. The registration period for both competitions is now open through the club’s website.

Okofen, unstoppable, about to win the Baitra J80 Winter League

The Okofen was convincing this Sunday in the waters of Baiona in the penultimate day of the J80 Winter League, which the Monte Real Club de Yates has been organizing since last January with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales.

The crew led by Javier de la Gándara signed two solid victories in the two races held and set the bar even higher for their most direct competitors, Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto and Manel Cunha’s Marías, who are second and third respectively. .

There were no changes in the provisional podium in terms of positions, but there were changes in the score that separates the three candidates to win the championship, which is now much wider. The 12 points that Okofen has allow them to already dream of the laurels of the league, by taking an 8-point advantage over Alboroto, which has 20; and 15 to Marías, with 27.

As had happened on Saturday, the regattas this Sunday were also very complicated by the wind. A first test was started that had to be canceled on the first beat. After changing the regatta course, the fleet was able to sail a sleeve that ended up shortened but that allowed the day’s scoring to open. Okofen, Spaco and Cansino got the best score. In the second and last test of the day, which could be played in its entirety, Okofen repeated victory and Alboroto and Marías entered behind them.

This being the case, and waiting for what happens on the last day, if Javier de la Gándara’s crew maintains the streak and the good work of the previous stages (in which they signed some partials of 1-2-1-3 -1-1-4-1-1-1), everything points to the final victory.

The crews that compete in the Monte Real one-design league will meet again on April 2, the day on which the sixth and final phase of the Baitra J80 Winter League is scheduled to be held.

That first Saturday of April, in addition to the competition being resolved, the Monte Real will deliver the prizes to the winners of the championship and will open the doors to the cruise competitions that will arrive in Baiona at the end of the month, with the celebration of the Comunica Trophy (April 23 ) and the Repsol Trophy (April 29 and 30 and May 1).

The twenty J80 who have been taking part in the Baitra J80 Winter League in Baiona since last January return to the water this weekend in a double competition day. The eight-meter fleet will compete in the fourth and fifth stages of the championship on Saturday from three in the afternoon and on Sunday from eleven in the morning.

There will be two days of tests in which it is planned to put into play a total of six tasks (three per day) of the windward-leeward type, and in which, if test number 11 is completed, a new discard will come into play, which will once again offer crews the chance to remove their worst result from the standings.

With six races in two days of regatta and the possibility of a discard being applied, everything indicates that this weekend’s double day will be decisive in terms of shaping the final podium, since once this phase is over , only the last three tests will be held, scheduled for next April 2.

Until now, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen is the team that has been the most solid in the competition, with four first places and one second. He leads with 6 points followed by Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto (with 11 points) and Manel Cunha’s Marías (with 14 points), who close the provisional podium.

For the first day of Saturday, the forecasts announce a wind of between 7 and 11 knots from the south, with the possibility of shifting and falling in intensity as the hours progress.

Spectacular day that took place this Saturday in Baiona in the third stage of the Baitra J80 Winter League, with which the one-design championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates crossed the halfway point of the competition.

Fabulous weather conditions, with sun, very good wind and some sea, allowed the three races on the program to be held, offered the fleet optimal conditions for navigation and put on a nice show in the Bay of Baiona, where many people They congregated for the Carnival.

The day had two undisputed protagonists: Alejandra Suárez’s Cansino, who shone -and won- in the first test, completing the course in a very solid way, always in the lead and far from his rivals; and Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who gave their rivals no respite in the second and third heats, and consolidated their leadership in the competition.

The application of a discard allowed him to eliminate his worst result (a third) and with a few partials of four first places and a second in the tests held so far, he remains in the lead with six points.

The Gándara team, in which his son Jaime and Diego Fernández continue to form the hard core, was joined this Saturday by another great sailor, Iago Carrera.

The Baitra J80 Winter League, which will return to the water with the fourth day on March 5, experienced a very special moment this Saturday when the fleet, before starting the tests, observed a minute of silence for the death of the mother of the Vice President of the club, Alejandro Retolaza.

It was the emotional note of a day that also had its happiest and most fun part thanks to the crew of the Pazo de Cea, who sailed all the tests dressed as pirates and waving a pirate flag on their sailboat.

The Galician J80 return to Baiona this Saturday to play the third round of the J80 Winter League, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Baitra. It is the third day on the program (the second effective after the cancellation of the first due to lack of wind) and everything indicates that the classification will begin to get exciting.

In the three tests held so far, the favorites began to take up positions and the three tests scheduled for this Saturday will serve to further define the classification, creating greater distances between the crews at the top and bottom of the table or further adjusting the head positions.

In addition, if the wind allows the celebration of the entire program (everything points to yes, because the forecast announces north component winds of about 9 knots and peaks of up to 14) and the sixth round is reached, a discard will come into play. , a move that will allow teams to remove their worst result from the standings.

So far, the three sailboats that occupy the positions of honor are separated by just two points from each other. They are Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen (4 points), Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto (6 points) and Manel Cunha’s Marías (8 points). The Okofen of Javier de la Gándara from Vigo was placed at the head of the Baitra J80 Winter League this Saturday after winning two of the three tests with which the competition was inaugurated. The crew came with a thorn in their side after having missed the Autumn League and convincingly demonstrated why they are one of the best teams in the running and one of the clear contenders for the final victory.

Those of De la Gándara haggled with ease and managed to get, in many moments, a significant distance from the rest of the fleet. In fact, in the first heat they crossed the finish line with great comfort separated from the rest.

Somewhat more complicated was the second test, in which they gave prominence to Alboroto, led by the former Spanish champion of the class, Javier Aguado. The sailboat was the fastest to take the buoys and to reach the finish line, winning the heat and leaving Okofen in second place.

But the Gándara crew was not willing to let the long-awaited victory slip away and took advantage of the third and last test of the day to sentence the classification with another first place. And so, with partial 1-2-1, it was how Okofen won the first victory of the Winter League, which the Monte Real Club de Yates organizes until next April thanks to the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales .

Along with the Okofen and the Alboroto, the other outstanding sailboat of the day was the Marías of the Portuguese Manel Cunha, who always remained very close to the first positions. They finished with results of 2-3-3 and third place in the provisional standings, but if they keep up their good work, they will undoubtedly be one of the crews to take into account in the coming days.

After the suspension of the opening day on January 22 due to lack of wind, the J80 fleet registered to participate in the Baitra J80 Winter League of the Monte Real Club de Yates will seek to debut this Saturday in Baiona.

The weather forecasts announce a northerly component wind with between 5 and 7 knots on average and peaks of up to 10; and, if they do not undergo major changes for the start of the tests, they would allow the 17 sailboats in contention to inaugurate the classification.

If everything goes according to plan, at three in the afternoon a regatta day will begin with three scheduled tests: three routes between buoys, of the windward-leeward type, with a double return.

In addition to competing in the heats, the crews will participate in informative briefings directed by the Olympic coach Carlos Llamas, who is in charge of preparing the Galician one-design fleet for the Spanish Championship and the World Championship of the class that will be held in Baiona on next September and in 2023.

The lack of wind prevented the Galician J80 fleet from debuting this Saturday in the Baitra J80 Winter League, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales.

Although the regatta committee managed to start the first of the three tests scheduled to open the competition, the sailboats were only able to complete one of the two laps that included the task.

In the middle of the first lap the difficulties for the crews with roles and drops of wind in the offset area already began. Despite everything, most of the boats managed to go up to the next beacon area, but when they were about to start the second round, the situation became untenable and the committee decided to cancel the test.

The regatta was then put on standby waiting for the wind to enter with the direction and intensity necessary to resume the competition, but it was not possible and the fleet was forced to return to land without having been able to open markers.

The next appointment with the Baitra J80 Winter League is on February 5 with the second of the six days that will be in contention.

· Aboard Okofen, the skipper from Vigo has the best results in the Baitra J80 Winter League, which celebrates its last day in Baiona this Saturday

· De la Gándara and his crew reach the final stage in first position with 8 points followed by Alboroto with 12 points and Marías with 17 points

The sailor from Vigo Javier de la Gándara and his crew from Okofen caress the final victory of the Baitra J80 Winter League, as they reach the last day of the competition, which is held this Saturday in Baiona, as leaders.

De la Gándara, his sons Jaime and Javier, and Okofen regular Diego Fernández lead the provisional standings with 8 points and, except for big mistakes or unexpected surprises that prevent them from maintaining the good track record up to now, they have many ballots to take the final victory.

Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Albotoro, who was joined on several days by the Spanish J80 champion, Javier Aguado, could avoid his victory. It is another of the J80s that has managed to chain very good results in the six tests held so far and could storm the first position of the league, since it occupies second place just 4 points behind Okofen.

Somewhat more difficult to finish as leader will be for the Portuguese crew of the Marías, led by Manel María, who is third with 17 points, 9 behind the leader and 5 behind the second. It will be difficult for him to win the laurels but he will almost certainly be among the top finishers.

Closing the Top 5 of the Baitra J80 Winter League and with aspirations to be able to sneak into a podium position are Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino, with 22 points; and La Galera by Miguel Fernández, with 24 points.

After the suspension of the penultimate day due to bad weather conditions, the Baitra J80 Winter League will celebrate its final stage this Saturday from three in the afternoon. The regatta committee hopes to be able to start the three tests planned in the program, and the sailboats will be left without being able to apply a new discard (of their worst result) because the six tests necessary to do so will not be held.

Once the competition in the water is over, the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates will host the awards ceremony for the winners, starting at half past seven. It will be attended by the general director of Baitra Accesorios Navales, Juan Carlos González, as sponsor of the event.

The Baitra J80 Winter League that the Monte Real Club de Yates has organized in Baiona since last January enters its final stretch this Saturday with the dispute of the penultimate day of tests.

Starting at three in the afternoon, the 18 sailboats that aspire to the title of the one-design league will meet in the bay of Baiona to compete in three new regattas with which to continue defining positions for the end of the competition, scheduled for May 29.

This Saturday there will be three new tests between buoys, of the windward-leeward type with a double loop, in which Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen has proven to be the best so far. With partials of 4-3-1-1-2-1, the crew of the sailor from Vigo has been at the top of the classification for several days but without being able to relax too much, since there are several candidates to steal the lead.

From second place, Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Rampage is another of the firm contenders for the title. In the last stage, being able to rule out his worst result (12 points), which had been penalizing him a lot in the table, allowed him to rise to the silver position, just 4 points behind the leader.

A little further down, in third position, with provisional bronze, is the Portuguese crew of the Marías, led by Manel Marías. They are separated by 9 points from Okofen, but the team is one of those that usually surprises, so a possible Portuguese victory cannot be ruled out yet.

Somewhat more unstable with the previous scores was Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino who, with very different partials, is in fourth position, closely followed, just 2 points apart, by La Galera from A Coruña, with Miguel Fernández Vasco in front.

Okofen snatches the lead from Marías

· The sailboat led by Javier de la Gándara signed the best results of the Baitra J80 Winter League this Saturday and was able to climb from fourth to first position

· The Portuguese crew of the Marías, who were leading the one-design competition, ran out of steam on the second day and had to settle for second place

· El Cansino by Fernando Yáñez managed to stay in the third position that he dragged from the first day and the climb of the day was carried out by El Alboroto by Juan Carlos Ameneiro rising from position 12 to 4

· The one-design competition of the Monte Real Club de Yates sponsored by Baitra Accesorios Navales resumes its tests on April 10

Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen gave no respite this Saturday in Baiona and in addition to achieving the best results on the second day of the Baitra J80 Winter League, managed to take the lead from Manel Marías’ Marías, who was in the lead after the stage inaugural.

The Gándara sailboat, led by the historic sailor from Vigo and crewed by his two sons Jaime and Javier, with the usual Diego Fernández also on board, signed two first and one third and once again demonstrated why it is one of the favorites to win with the ultimate victory.

In the ascent of the Okofen, the fall was for the young Portuguese crew of the Marías, who was affected in the final classification of the day for crossing in sixth position in the first test. Despite recovering pace in the other two, in which he achieved a second and a third place, he had to settle for the second step of the provisional podium.

Just the opposite happened to Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino. It started strong, with a second place, but it lost steam as the regatta day progressed; and the fourth and eighth places that he signed in the rest of the races did not allow him to climb positions beyond the third place that he had dragged from the first stage.

In fourth position is Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto, in which this Saturday the presence of the Spanish J80 champion, Javier Aguado, was noted. His good work helped the crew climb positions from 12th to 4th place. It was, without a doubt, the climb of the day, for one of the sailboats with the best results (one first, one second and one fourth in the tests held).

Closing the Top 5 of the Baitra J80 Winter League we find Santiago Estevez’s Spaco, which does not change its position with respect to the first day. They are followed by Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero; the SDN Cormorant of Francisco J. Martínez; and the Ferralemes by Jaime García.

Further down the classification we find Maija by José Luis Pérez; The Galley of Miguel Fernández; Rafael Blanco’s Due; Joao Nuno Allen’s Ifaclinic.com; and Jaime Barreiro’s Petrilla. And they close the list of Luis de Mira’s Namasté; the Pazo de Cea by Iago Carballo; the Miudo by Nacho Salgueiro and the Mondo by Bernardo Macedo.

The Baitra J80 Winter League organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales will return to the bay of Baiona on April 10 with three new tests that will take the monotypes into the halfway point of the competition.

Previously, the Monte Real will host the Spanish Optimist Championship during Easter, between March 31 and April 3, which will be officially presented next Tuesday at one in the afternoon at the club’s facilities.

The Marías arrives leader to the second day of the Baitra J80 Winter League

· The J80 of the Portuguese Manel Marías is at the head of the one-design classification followed by the Luna Nueva de Tuero and the Cansino de Yáñez

· The second day of the league will be held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona starting at three in the afternoon with three tests in the competition program

The J80 Marías of the Portuguese Manel Marías leads the second day of the Baitra Winter League, which will be held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona starting at three in the afternoon, with three tests on the competition programme.

The sailboat, manned by the Portuguese sailors Tiago Morais, Marta Ramada, Vasco Tinoco and Antonio Marías, managed to win the first round of the Monte Real Club de Yates one-design league, which was held at the end of February.

He did it after winning the only test that could be played due to the wind, which did not blow strongly enough. The same is not expected to happen this weekend, in which the forecasts announce winds above ten knots reaching peaks of twenty at times.

Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero is in second place in the provisional classification, followed, from bronze, by Cansino by Fernando Yáñez. Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen and Santiago Estévez’s Spaco complete the Top 5 after opening the markers.
