Spectacular regatta this Saturday in Baiona, with weather conditions that favored rapid navigation and the maneuvers of the sailboats in the bay. The crew of the Mi Moneda, skippered by Jacobo Vecino, knew how to make the most of the 20 knots of wind that were recorded and successfully finished the competition by crossing the finish line first in the three races held.

At her stern, at all times, Roberto Fontán’s Ferralemes and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, who achieved second and third place respectively in this afternoon’s regattas.

After today’s session, Mi Moneda strengthens its leadership in the overall Monte Real trophy, with three victories in the five days of competition. Virazón and Luna Nueva would obtain, if they manage to maintain their good results, the silver and bronze of the trophy. The general classification is completed by Namasté, Nortada and Ferralemes.

Mi Moneda wins on the fourth day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy of Monte Real

· The boat, with Jacobo Vecino at the helm and Laureano Wizner in the crew, achieves its second victory in the trophy and takes the lead from Virazón

· The provisional classification leaves Miguel Lago’s Virazón and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva in second and third position

· The Vitaldent Trophy thus passes the halfway point of the tests, which will continue on March 14, 28 and 29

Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda, skippered this Sunday by Jacobo Vecino, managed to win the fourth day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy of the Monte Real Club de Yates, held this morning in the Bay of Baiona.

The good work of Vecino and his crew, among which the Copa América sailor Laureano Wizner stood out, allowed them to win two of the three races held on a rainy day, with winds between 12 and 17 knots, reaching peaks of 21 at times.

Mi Moneda thus managed to snatch the leadership of the competition from Virazón, who had been first in the general standings since last February 14. Miguel Lago’s boat drops to second place with just one point difference from the leader.

In third position is Luna Nueva, by Juan Luis Tuero; followed by Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Iago Carballo’s Nortada, tied on points; and the sixth classified is Ferralemes, by Roberto Fontán.

The Vitaldent J80 Trophy will continue on March 14 with the fifth of the seven scheduled days. The last two will be held on the 28th and 29th. The competition will end with the awards ceremony for the winners at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates, in Baiona.

Virazón wins the third day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy and leads the competition

· The boat from the Monte Real Club de Yates, skippered by Miguel Lago, won two of the three tests held this afternoon in the bay of Baiona

With three days to go before the trophy ends, Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva are second and third overall

· Before starting the regatta, the fleet observed a minute of silence in honor of the president of Monte Real Don Rafael Olmedo, who died last Saturday

The Virazón won this afternoon in the bay of Baiona the third day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club. Skippered by Miguel Lago and with Gerardo Alonso, Juan José Lago and Javier Lago completing the crew, the Virazón won two of the three tests held today, thus continuing to lead the general standings.

In second position is Mi Moneda, by Guillermo Caamaño, which this Saturday replaced the Jacobo Vecino cane. With America’s Cup sailor Laureano Wizner on board, Mi Moneda achieved a first place and two seconds in the races held this afternoon.

Luna Nueva, owned by Juan Luis Tuero, despite being last on this day, is third overall. The classification is completed by Luis de Mira’s Namasté, Iago Carballo’s Nortada and Roberto Fontán’s Ferralemes.

The three races held today were sailed with an unstable wind of 10 knots, which forced the regatta committee to shorten courses. Before the start of the competition, the fleet observed a minute of silence in honor of the president of the Monte Real Club de Yates, Don Rafael Olmedo, who passed away last Saturday.

The Vitaldent J80 Trophy continues tomorrow, Sunday, starting at 11 in the morning, with the fourth of the seven scheduled tests. The rest of the regattas will be held on March 14, 28 and 29.

Goodbye, President

Day of mourning and deep sorrow at the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona for the death, at the age of 99, of Don Rafael Olmedo Limeses, president of the club for the last 40 years.

Defined by many as an extremely polite, humble, affectionate and attentive person, the farewell to Don Rafael marks the disappearance of an exemplary leader, under whose presidency, Monte Real became one of the most prestigious international nautical organizations, an indisputable benchmark in the world of sailing.

Under the helm of Olmedo Limeses, the Baiona club organized major cruise competitions, such as the Bermuda-Bayona Discovery Regatta , several Lymington-Baiona , several Spanish championships and a large number of Match Races . In addition, it became the first Spanish club to present, in 1989, a challenge in the oldest competition in the world, the Copa América de Vela , to which Monte Real would present itself on two more occasions.

Throughout his prolific life, Don Rafael Olmedo was recognized with the Naval Merit Cross , the Gold Medal of the Spanish Sailing Federation , the Bronze Medal of Sports Merit , and the Sports Merit Award . He was also named the favorite son of the town of Baiona , for having transformed the town into an international benchmark for sailing and nautical tourism.

In 2013, when Olmedo celebrated 40 years at the helm of Monte Real, the board of directors decided to name the club’s signal mast after him, in recognition of his enormous dedication and effort. Today, their flags fly at half-staff as a sign of mourning.

Rest in peace, president.

Miguel Lago’s Virazón wins the second day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy

The Monte Real Club de Yates boat managed to prevail in a regatta in which bad weather was the protagonist

The complicated weather conditions recorded in the Bay of Baiona forced the planned testing program to be shortened

The Vitaldent J80 Trophy continues on Saturday, February 28 with the third day of a competition that will continue throughout the month of March

Miguel Lago’s Virazón won the second day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy held this afternoon in the Bay of Baiona. The Monte Real Club de Yates boat managed to prevail in a regatta in which bad weather was the protagonist.

The complicated weather conditions, with winds of 24 knots on average and gusts of up to 30 knots, forced the competition to be shortened. The regatta committee put an end to the first test on the second windward beat and decided not to carry out the rest of the planned tests.

After Miguel Lago’s Virazón, the finish line was crossed by Luis de Mira’s Namasté, Luna Nueva skippered by Juan Luis Tuero and Nortada, with Iago Carballo at the helm. Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda, which had been victorious on the first day of the championship, was unable to finish the regatta due to a problem with the spinnaker’s halyard.

The Vitaldent J80 Trophy continues on Saturday, February 28 with the third day of tests. A day later, on March 1, the regatta will be held, which was suspended 15 days ago due to bad weather, and there will be three more tests on March 14, 28 and 29.

The Monte Real Yacht Club strengthens ties with La Rochelle

· Representatives of the French port of La Rochelle visited the Monte Real Club de Yates this afternoon to learn first-hand about its facilities and activities

· The meeting laid the foundations for future collaborations to promote transits and organize regattas between both coasts

· The Baiona yacht club is a reference port for visitors arriving in Galicia by sea throughout the year

A representation of the city council and the management of the port of La Rochelle visited this Friday the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates to see first-hand its facilities and activities. At the meeting, organized by Portos de Galicia, the foundations were laid for future collaborations, with the aim of promoting transits between both coasts.

The deputy mayor of La Rochelle, Catherine Leónidas, was willing to study the possibility of organizing a joint regatta with the club from Baiona, of which in France – according to what she said – they have very good references. The president of the port of this French town, Christian Marbach, influenced this same idea, assuring that there are many sailors who come to La Rochelle talking about the fabulous conditions that Baiona offers to lovers of the sea.

The Monte Real Yacht Club is one of the key ports for tourists who arrive in Galicia by sea throughout the year from the most diverse origins. French visitors account for 25 percent of its transits and acquire special importance because they extend their navigation season beyond the summer months, which favors the seasonal adjustment of tourism.

The president of Portos de Galicia, who accompanied the delegation from La Rochelle on its visit to Monte Real, assured that the objective of the public entity is to continue carrying out this type of promotional activities to place Galicia at the forefront of European nautical .

On behalf of the Monte Real Yacht Club, Gabriel Baltar, member of the board of directors, and Miguel Riveiro, manager of the Baionese club, acted as hosts in this visit. They were accompanied by several councilors from the Baiona city council, led by Mayor Jesús Vázquez Almuíña. The meeting was also attended by Bertrand Moquay, director of the port of La Rochelle.

The Monte Real Yacht Club celebrates half a century of life

· Since its birth, on March 24, 1965 in Baiona, the club has starred in some of the most important chapters of sailing in Spain

· The promotion of international nautical tourism and the organization of regattas continue to be, 50 years after its creation, its main objectives

· Two of its most emblematic competitions, the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy and the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, are also celebrating their anniversary in 2015

The year was 1964 when the Erizana Yachting Club Internacional was created in Baiona, the seed of what would become the Monte Real Club Internacional de Yachting Bayona La Real just a year later, on March 24, 1965. Then one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world was born, destined to star in some of the most important chapters of sailing in Spain.

Although the name evolved to the current Monte Real Club de Yates , the philosophy with which it was founded remains intact. It is based on two fundamental premises: the promotion of international nautical tourism and the organization of regattas.

Throughout its 50-year history, the MRCYB has starred in some of the most important chapters of sailing in our country. In 1989 the club made an unprecedented decision in the Spanish nautical scene, that of launching a challenge to the Copa América de Vela, to which it would present a total of three times, in 1992, 1995 and 2000.

It has also promoted several editions of the Lymington-Baiona regatta, European and World Championships, and numerous grade one international Match Race regattas, in which the best skippers in the world participated. In addition, every year, since 1986, it organizes one of the most important sailing competitions in Spain, the Prince of Asturias Trophy.

THE PRINCE OF ASTURIAS AND THE COUNT OF GONDOMAR ALSO ON ANNIVERSARY

In 2015, two of the most emblematic regattas of the Monte Real Yacht Club are celebrating their anniversary, the Prince of Asturias Trophy and the Count of Gondomar Trophy, which celebrate their 30th and 40th anniversary respectively.

The Prince of Asturias Trophy began to be held in 1986, coinciding with the presence of the then heir to the throne, Don Felipe de Borbón, at the Military Naval School of Marín. The King of Spain today participated as a sailor in that first edition and was named Honorary President of the Monte Real Yacht Club, a title he has held ever since.

Another of the club’s most charismatic trophies, the Count of Gondomar, is also celebrating its anniversary in 2015. The competition was created 40 years ago, in 1976, and since then it has been held continuously. It includes one of the most attractive tests for cruising sailing in Spain, the Baiona-Finisterre-Baiona route, which is more than 100 miles long.

A CLUB DESERVING MANY DISTINCTIONS

Located in a privileged enclave, in the bay of Baiona, a few miles from the Cíes Islands, the Monte Real Club de Yates has been worthy of important distinctions.

The Baiona city council awarded the club the Real Villa Gold Medal, and its president for 40 years, Don Rafael Olmedo, has been named the municipality’s adopted son. Monte Real’s interest in respecting and caring for the environment has earned it, continuously since 1993, the blue flag.

Last year, the MRCYB also became the only yacht club in Spain to be distinguished by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) for its work in eliminating architectural barriers and its attention to people with disabilities. .

TOURISM, COMPETITION AND ALSO TRAINING

In addition to promoting international nautical tourism, attracting numerous boats of the most diverse nationalities to the Galician coast, and organizing some of the most prestigious regattas on the Spanish scene, the Monte Real Yacht Club has a third major objective: to convey to the new generations the love for sailing and the values of the sport of sailing.

The Baionese club has a Sailing School in which a large number of students, of all ages and conditions, are trained. In it you can learn both light sailing and cruising sailing, to get to compete or simply to enjoy the sea. It also has a section for adapted sailing, created so that people with some type of disability can navigate under equal conditions.

Happy Holidays

My dear friends,

Just a few words to express my cordial congratulations to all of you this Christmas, wish you a prosperous New Year and share with you the memory of some of the best moments lived at the Monte Real Club de Yates throughout 2014.

It has certainly been an intense year, but all the effort has been worth it, because the steps taken in recent months bring us a little closer to that ideal club that we continue to dream of being for all of you.

In this 2014 we have received a recognition of which we feel very proud. It is the distinction that, together with the blue flag, the ADEAC awarded us for the elimination of architectural barriers and work with disabled people. In addition, we have reorganized all our classic regattas. These would not have been possible without the invaluable help of the sponsors, to whom I want to express my most sincere gratitude.

I would also like to send a particularly affectionate greeting to all of you who have competed in them, contributing your sporting talent. I think of you, sailors, and also of the students of our Sailing School, who in a few years will star in these competitions. In your hands and in theirs is, without a doubt, the future of this wonderful sport.

I also want to convey to you my hopes that 2015 will be the one we all want. For the club it is a very special year, because we will celebrate several anniversaries in which, from now on, I invite you to participate. Half a century has passed since the creation of Monte Real, and two of our most emblematic regattas, the Count of Gondomar and the Prince of Asturias, are turning 40 and 30 years old, respectively. These are three events that we cannot fail to celebrate with you, invaluable companions on our journey through our history.

From the presidency of Monte Real, and on behalf of the board of directors and all the staff of the club, I send you our best wishes, wishing that these dates come full of happiness for you and your families, and that in 2015 they blow for all better winds.

Raphael Olmedo. President

RACING SCHEDULE

The regatta calendar of the Monte Real Club de Yates opens next January with the celebration of the first two tests of the VITALDENT J80 WINTER TROPHY , a competition for these monotypes that will include competitions on Saturday 17 and 31. The trophy will continue in February, on the 14th and 28th, and will end with three more regattas on the 14th, 28th and 29th of March.

In the month of April, the leading role is exclusively for the WINTER REGATTA , which this year celebrates its tenth edition. It will be played on Saturdays 18 and 25, and will include technical and coastal routes.

May will begin with the thirty-eighth edition of the SPRING REGATTA REPSOL TROPHY , on days 1, 2 and 3. It is a test in which the crews fine-tune their boats to face the strong area of the regatta season.

One more year, the Monte Real Club de Yates is once again firmly committed to grassroots sports, promoting children’s and youth sailing regattas. On the 9th and 10th of May it organizes the CHILDREN’S SAILING REGATTA · BAITRA TROPHY , and the 23rd and 24th are reserved for the BAITRA 420 TROPHY .

In June comes the traditional GALICIAN CHAMPIONSHIP OF SOLITARIOS YA TWO . It will be on the 13th and 14th. It is a medium-distance regatta in which the main handicap is having to handle the boats alone or with another crew member.

In July one of the club’s most charismatic regattas arrives, the CONDE DE GONDOMAR TROPHY , which is celebrating its anniversary this year. 40 years have passed since the first edition, held in 1976. It will include, as usual, one of the most attractive races for cruising sailing in Spain, the Baiona-Finisterre-Baiona route, over 100 miles long, rounding the mythical Carrumeiro Chico lighthouse. The trophy is scheduled for July 23, 24, 25 and 26.

Another event that is celebrating its anniversary in 2015 is the PRÍNCIPE DE ASTURIAS TROPHY , which has been held continuously since 1986. Thirty years after that first edition, in which the then heir to the throne, Don Felipe de Borbón, participated, the trophy will once again be held in the waters of the Bay of Baiona on September 4, 5 and 6. It will also be the J80 IBERIAN CHAMPIONSHIP . Along with the traditional sporting events in which everyone has a place (regatta sailboats, cruisers, monotypes, classics…) there will be breakfasts, meetings, tastings, fireworks, parties…

Within the framework of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, the Monte Real Yacht Club will deliver the TERRAS GAUDA NATIONAL SAILING AWARDS . They are awards created 23 years ago with the aim of recognizing the work of different people and institutions in favor of the world of sailing, as well as its human and sporting values.

In October and November the tests organized exclusively for the J80 return, with the J80 AUTUMN TROPHY . It will be held on Saturdays October 17 and 31, and November 14 and 28.
