Exciting second stage of the Vitaldent Trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club. The wind conditions, with peaks of up to 20 knots, and the sea, with waves exceeding three metres, filled the regattas held this afternoon in the bay of Baiona with emotion.

Rui Ramada’s Miudo, skippered on this occasion by his daughter Francisca Barros, won the day after achieving three second places in the three races held. The crew led by the Portuguese sailor managed to prevail over her two toughest rivals on the water, Virazón, skippered by Gerardo Alonso, and Willy Caamaño’s Alumisel. Both did a great job in the water and placed second and third respectively, separated by just one point.

Ferralemes, with Enrique Porto at the helm, came out ready to fight back and beat the bronze achieved on the first day, but finally fell off the provisional podium and had to settle for a meritorious fourth place.

The Luna Nueva of Juan Luis Tuero, skippered today by José Gándara; Namasté by Luis de Mira and Pazo de Cea by Rita Hernández are placed in fifth, sixth and seventh position. The Cormorant Nautical School closes the classification, which did not compete today.

The next appointment with the Vitaldent Trophy, organized exclusively for the J80 class, will be on Saturday, February 13. The date will coincide with the 420 Galician Championship, which is also organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.

El Virazón, first leader of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy after a day marked by lack of wind

· Miguel Lago’s boat was placed in first position, leaving second and third place for Rui Ramada’s Miudo and Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes

· The low wind that was recorded this afternoon in the bay of Baiona delayed the start of the tests and only allowed one regatta to be held

· The competition continues on Saturday, January 30 with the second of the six scheduled days of regattas in the Monte Real Club de Yates trophy

The Virazón del Monte Real Club de Yates, skippered by Miguel Lago, was placed this afternoon as provisional leader of the Vitaldent Class J80 Trophy after a day marked by little wind, which forced the start of the tests to be delayed and only allowed the celebration of a regatta

With barely 5 knots of intensity, and falling at times, the J80 fleet disputed the first victory of the tournament in a double-loop windward-leeward course, in which the Virazón crew took the lead from the first moment. Miguel Lago’s men finished the race in first position, leaving the rest of the places of honor for Rui Ramada’s Miudo and Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, second and third respectively.

The Pazo de Cea, by Rita Hernández; the Alumisel, by Guillermo Caamaño; and Escuela Náutico Cormorán, by Iván Pérez-Gándaras, occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth places in a provisional classification that is completed by Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero and Namasté by Luis de Mira.

The Vitaldent Class J80 Trophy continues on Saturday, January 30 with the second of the six days of regattas scheduled until next March in the championship organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.

Baiona opens this Saturday the 2016 sailing season with the Vitaldent Class J80 Trophy

· The championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates includes 6 days of regattas in the bay of Baiona during the months of January, February and March

· The competition will allow the Galician fleet of J80 to continue with its preparation for the World Championship that will take place in June in Sotogrande

· The Vitaldent Trophy is part of the J80 League of the Monte Real Yacht Club, which will continue from October with the Autumn Trophy

Baiona opens the 2016 sailing season this Saturday with the Vitaldent Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club, a competition organized exclusively for J80 class boats. The tests will begin at three in the afternoon in the bay area, where the participants are expected to compete in the first three races for the trophy.

Participating boats include, among others, the winners of the previous J80 competition organized by Monte Real last fall. They are Miguel Lago’s Virazón, Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva and Guillermo Caamaño’s Alumisel, who won the gold, silver and bronze of the trophy, respectively. Together with them, a new J80 boat recently acquired by the Baiona club, which will be skippered by Rui Ramada, will also compete.

After the first day of regattas this Saturday, another 5 stages are scheduled to be held on January 30, February 13 and 27, and March 12 and 13. All the tests will start at three in the afternoon, except for the last one, which will start at 11:00, and will include several windward-leeward routes, which the regatta committee will determine, on each occasion, depending on the weather conditions and the state of the sea

The boats, all of the J80 class, will sail as a fleet, will compete in real time and will carry out a maximum of 3 tests per day. Each and every one of them will score for the final classification from which the winner of the league will emerge, which will be known in mid-March.

With the aim of making more sailors aware of this type of vessel, the organization will allow the inclusion of a fifth crew member on board, who will be able to navigate only as an observer. He must stand behind the skipper and may not participate in the tactics or maneuvers of the crew.

The J80 Monte Real Class Vitaldent Trophy will serve as preparation for the Galician J80 fleet for the World Championship to be held in Sotogrande from June 25 to July 2.

Monte Real returns in 2016 to international regattas with the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race

· The Baiona club returns with the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race to a type of competition for which it became world famous in the 1970s

· The test will depart on July 3 from the bay of Baiona and will have as its first destination the Angra Iate Clube, in Angra do Heroismo, on the Terceira Island of the Azores archipelago

· The Monte Real regatta calendar is completed with another 10 national events, among which is the historic Prince of Asturias Trophy

The Monte Real Club de Yates returns in 2016 to international regattas with the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race , a test that will start on July 3 from the Galician fishing village and that will have as its first destination the Angra Iate Clube, in Angra do Heroismo, on the Terceira Island of the Portuguese archipelago. The Baionese club thus takes up a type of nautical competition for which it became world famous in the 1970s.

La Baiona – Angra is one of the 11 regattas that are part of the Monte Real competition calendar for this coming year, an extensive sports program that opens this month of January with the J80 Class Winter League . It is a championship dedicated exclusively to this type of boat that gives continuity to the SabadellGallego J80 Class League, held in recent months in the Bay of Baiona. The J80 Winter League includes six test days, on January 16 and 30, February 13 and 27, and March 12 and 13.

In February, Monte Real will also be in charge of organizing the Baitra Trophy – 420 Galician Championship , which will be held on the 13th, 14th and 20th. It is an appointment that will bring together the 30 boats that make up the fleet of 420 from Galicia, and in which the club from Baiona will participate with 5 crews.

In April, two of the great competitions of Monte Real will arrive, the Winter Regatta and the Spring Regatta. The first, which this year will be held under the name of the AXA Trophy by its sponsor, will be on April 9 and 16, and the Real Club Náutico de Vigo will once again collaborate with it, as has been the tradition. The Spring Trophy, better known as the Repsol Trophy , also because of its sponsor, will take place on April 23 and 30 and the May Day holiday. It is a test in which the crews fine-tune their boats to face the strong area of the regatta season.

One more year, the Monte Real Club de Yates is once again firmly committed to grassroots sports, with the organization of a Baitra Children’s Sailing Championship on May 21 and 22, open to the participation of Optimist and Cadet sailors.

In June comes the traditional Galician Solo and Two Championship , a medium-distance regatta in which the main handicap is that the skippers of the boats have to handle them alone or with the help of a single crew member. It will be held on Saturday June 18, coinciding with the Social League final tests, a competition that is held throughout the year by the students of the Monte Real Yacht Club Sailing School.

A weekend later, on June 24, 25 and 26, the Iberian Championship Class 2.4mR will be held, an adapted sailing regatta. There will be three days of competition in which sailors from different parts of Spain, with and without disabilities, will compete under equal conditions in the bay of Baiona.

July will be one of the key months in the Monte Real regatta calendar, because in addition to the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race , it will include the forty-first edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy , one of the most attractive races for cruising sailing in Spain. It will include, as tradition dictates, the Baiona-Fisterra-Baiona route, more than 100 miles long, turning around the mythical Carrumeiro Chico lighthouse. The Conde de Gondomar Trophy will be held this year from July 22 to 25.

After being the stopping point in August for the Pornic – Baiona regatta, the great sailing event of the Monte Real Club de Yates will arrive on the first weekend of September, and one of the most important nautical competitions in Spain, the Prince of Asturias Trophy. On days 2, 3 and 4, various sports events of the highest level and numerous leisure activities for the participants will fill the town of Baiona with life.

Within the framework of the Principe de Asturias Trophy, one more year, the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will be presented, awards that recognize the work of people and institutions in favor of the world of sailing, as well as their human values and sports.

The J80 Class Autumn League will be in charge of closing the Monte Real sports calendar for this year 2016. There will be four days of tests organized exclusively for these monotypes on October 15 and 29 and November 12 and 26.

For more information on the different competitions of the Baiona club, sailors can contact the club by email, writing an email to secretaria@mrcyb.com , or by calling 986 385 000. The media that need additional information can contact the club’s communication department at press@mrcyb.com

Happy Holidays!

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, which I am honored to preside over, I send you our most cordial congratulations this Christmas and our best wishes for the coming New Year 2016. After an eventful 2015, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who, in some way, they have made it possible.

To the sailors who, with their participation in the club’s different competitions, have kept the Monte Real Club de Yates banner at the top. To the sponsors who, time and again with their collaboration, make our club’s most emblematic regattas great. And to the media that, with their work, make a sport as extraordinary as sailing reach the whole of society.

Everything we do would not be possible without the effort of each of the club’s collaborators and staff, whose work we can feel proud of. And finally, my fondest memories for the families of those friends who have left us throughout this year.

Merry Christmas!

Virazón wins the J80 Class SabadellGallego League

· The boat skippered by Miguel Lago won the championship after winning three of the four days of tests held in the bay of Baiona

The Luna Nueva of Juan Luis Tuero and the Alumisel of Guillermo Caamaño won silver and bronze in the one-design competition at the Monte Real Club de Yates

· One of the objectives of the SabadellGallego Class J80 League was to make this type of boat known in Galicia and promote its participation in regattas

It was placed leader from the first day of tests held on October 17 and no other boat was able to unseat it from that first position in the remaining three days. After demonstrating its power on the water, the Virazón, skippered by Miguel Lago, with Juan Lago, Javier Lago and Gerardo Alonso on board, won the SabadellGallego J80 Class League, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.

He did it this afternoon in the bay of Baiona, in the fourth and last stage of the championship, which was held for 2 hours with ideal conditions for the competition. Sun, good sea and a wind of about 15 knots on average, with peaks of up to 19, allowed the J80 to navigate easily between the buoys placed by the committee to mark the poles of the course.

Of the three races held this afternoon, Virazón won two and Luna Nueva one. Juan Luis Tuero’s men had a fantastic regatta and that first place and the two seconds they achieved in the other races allowed them to move up one place in the general classification.

Thus, and after adding today’s results with those of the previous days, the final classification was led, as we say, by Virazón, who won the league gold. Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, Miguel Cidrás, Rogelio Torres and Pedro Núñez took silver, and bronze went to Alumisel by Guillermo Caamaño, Marcos Alonso, José Quiñones and Jacobo Vecino.

Completing the classification are Pazo de Cea by María Campos, Namasté by Luis de Mira and Ferralemes by Enrique Porto.

The J80 League, sponsored by SabadellGallego, with the collaboration of Vitaldent and the Xunta de Galicia, had among its objectives to publicize this class of boats in Galicia, and promote their participation in regattas.

The awards ceremony held at the Monte Real Yacht Club was attended by Pepe Celada, representing the sponsor SabadellGallego, Raul Costas, councilor for maritime activities of Baiona, and Genoveva Pereiro, vice-commodore of the Monte Real Yacht Club

The next appointment with the Monte Real competitions will be next January with the Winter League, also organized exclusively for J80 class boats.

The Bay of Baiona hosts this Saturday the fourth and last day of the J80 SabadellGallego Class League, a competition that has been held since last October under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and with the sponsorship of SabadellGallego.

The tests will begin at three in the afternoon and it is planned that a total of three windward-leeward routes will be disputed, with weather conditions that herald a sunny day, with northerly winds of about 15 knots on average, which will facilitate fleet navigation.

Except for last-minute surprises, the places of honor on the competition podium will be shared between Miguel Lago’s Virazón, Guillermo Caamaño’s Alumisel and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, who lead the League at some distance from the rest of the boats . They have 9, 17 and 19 points respectively in the general classification, which are completed by Pazo de Cea, Namasté and Ferralemes with 29, 30 and 32 points.

Once the fourth and final day of testing is over, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host the award ceremony for the winners of the SabadellGallego League, organized exclusively for J80 class one-designs, sponsored by the bank that gives its name to the competition and the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia and Vitaldent

Goodbye Mary Woodward

This weekend it is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Mary Woodward, Mount Royal Delegate, along with her husband Joe Woodward, for Ireland and the UK.

We lack words to thank all the years of friendship that he gave us, in addition to his great contribution to the tourist sponsorship of the Rías Baixas in northern Europe. Thank you Mary, for everything you gave us, for being an example of knowing how to be and doing well.

From here we also want to convey our deepest condolences to Joe and his entire family. We join your pain and send you our most sincere support in these difficult times for you.

Rest in peace, Mary Woodward.

See you forever.

The Monte Real Club de Yates launches an innovative electric gantry crane

Using only electricity, this system allows boats to be hoisted and pulled out of the water to be taken to their stranding point

· Greater safety, less environmental impact and a reduction in energy consumption are some of the main benefits of this innovative crane

· The new system reduces CO2 emissions by 83 percent, noise emissions by 96 percent and energy costs by 88 percent

· The project, one hundred percent Galician, was developed by engineers from the Monte Real Club de Yates (MRCYB) and Yacht Port Marinas (YPM)

A pioneer of recreational boating in Galicia since its birth fifty years ago, the Monte Real Yacht Club once again demonstrates in 2015 its potential as a forerunner of the advances that are taking place in the sector. It does so, in this case, with the commissioning of an innovative electric gantry crane for ships. It is a novel system that allows to reduce to the maximum the levels of contamination in the work of hoisting and stranding of boats.

Today, a large part of the machines that carry out this type of work in Spain use diesel for their operation, a more polluting energy source than electricity. With its new gantry crane, Monte Real will be able to reduce its environmental impact and electricity consumption, in addition to achieving greater safety at work.

The numbers speak for themselves. Compared to the club’s previous gantry crane, of the type that exists in practically all marinas in Spain, the new crane reduces CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 83 percent and noise pollution by 96 percent . It also reduces, in a very considerable way, the energy cost per manoeuvre, which is 88 percent lower.

The machine development project and its subsequent construction were piloted by engineers Miguel Riveiro, from the Baiona club, and Oscar Riera, from Yacht Port Marinas. The electric gantry crane, which has the capacity to lift boats of up to 25 tons, began operating this November at the Monte Real Club de Yates marina.

The past: too many risks of accidental contamination

Today, a large part of the cranes used in Spain to beach ships work with diesel engines and hydraulic systems, with the damage to the environment that this entails and the risks of accidental contamination that this implies.

In addition to polluting emissions into the air, this system causes significant noise, which affects the cities and beaches near the marinas. It is especially notable in areas of great tourist influx, as is the case of the Monte Real Club de Yates, located in the urban center of Baiona, in the grounds of the Parador Nacional de Baiona and between two of the busiest beaches in the municipality, Barbeira and Ribeira.

The future: commitment to the environment

The future of work carried out in marinas depends on the use of sustainable energy capable of meeting present needs without compromising future resources. In this sense, electrical energy stands out as one of the main bets, since its environmental impact is much lower than other types of energy sources.

The use of electric cranes in marinas is a clear example of the evolution that must be followed to achieve the maximum possible commitment to nature and society. This type of system minimizes the environmental impact of boat stranding work.

The innovative electric gantry crane of the Monte Real Club de Yates

The electric gantry crane of the Monte Real Club de Yates is an innovative system that is used for lifting and stranding recreational, regatta or fishing boats that need to be removed from the water for their transfer to the dry dock stranding point.

The machine works exclusively with electrical energy. Its batteries will allow it to work tirelessly even in the busiest days of the summer season and in the days before sports competitions, which is when the boats most need this service for their repairs and tune-ups.

Among its many benefits is that of drastically reducing, up to 83 percent, CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. It also reduces, to the maximum, noise pollution on beaches and cities, since the noise emission is 96 percent lower.

A crane at the service of the Baiona Fishermen’s Association

The new electric gantry crane of the Monte Real Club de Yates will serve, in addition to the users of the yacht club, the boats of the Baiona Fishermen’s Association.

It will be thanks to an agreement between both entities that has been in force since the early 1980s, through which all the boats of the group that so wish can go to the club’s facilities to be stranded in dry dock.

The collaboration between the Monte Real Club de Yates and Yacht Port Marinas (YPM)

The idea of building an electric gantry crane for the beaching of boats arose from the need to have a machine that would be capable of providing the same services that the club has offered up to now, but with a minimum environmental impact and maximum safety for the users. workers.

After that initial idea, the process was piloted by engineers Miguel Riveiro, from the Baion club, and Oscar Riera, from Yacht Port Marinas, a company specializing in nautical infrastructure based in Pazos de Borbén (Pontevedra). It is a one hundred percent Galician project.

Luna Nueva wins on the third day of the J80 Class SabadellGallego League

· The boat skippered by Juan Luis Tuero managed to win the day after achieving first and second place in the two races held this afternoon in Baiona

· In the general classification, it remains in third position behind Virazón and Alumisel, which continue to lead the Monte Real Club de Yates competition.

· The outcome of the SabadellGallego Class J80 League will take place on November 28 with the last day of testing

Complicated day this afternoon in Baiona for the celebration of the third day of the SabadellGallego Class J80 League organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates. The little wind that blew in the bay of Baiona, barely 6 knots, made it difficult for the one-designs to navigate and prevented the three initially planned tests from being held. The regatta committee was only able to start two tasks, and was also forced to shorten the second after a drop in the wind.

With Juan Luis Tuero at the helm, Luna Nueva was the boat that obtained the best results. He achieved a second and a first place, which gave him the victory of the day and which keep him in third position overall.

Miguel Lago’s Virazón, skippered on this occasion by Rui Ramada, managed to win the first of the tests, but the fifth place it obtained in the second prevented it from repeating the two victories achieved in the previous days.

Despite everything, he is still the leader of the general classification, followed by Alumisel, who did not have much luck in the water today. Guillermo Caamaño’s men achieved sixth and second place in each of the heats, and finally came fifth, behind María Campos’ Pazo de Cea and Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, and ahead of Luis de Mira’s Namasté.

Thus, today’s session leaves few changes for the outcome of the competition, which will take place on November 28 with the last stage of testing. Virazón maintains its provisional gold some distance from Alumisel and Luna Nueva, which are in second and third position separated by just one point. Pazo de Cea, Namasté and Ferralemes close the classification.

The SabadellGallego Class J80 League is organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of SabadellGallego and the collaboration of Vitaldent and the Xunta de Galicia.

The J80 Class SabadellGallego League enters its final stretch this Saturday in Baiona

· The nautical competition will cross its equator with the third of the four days of regattas organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club

· The tests will be held in the waters of the bay of Baiona with a weather forecast that announces a day of sun and wind of variable intensity

Miguel Lago’s Virazón, Guillermo Caamaño’s Alumisel and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva occupy the first three places on the provisional podium

The bay of Baiona hosts this Saturday the penultimate day of the SabadellGallego J80 Class League, a competition that has been held since last October under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

The tests of this third day will begin at three in the afternoon and it is expected that a total of three windward-leeward routes will be disputed, with weather conditions that herald a day of sun and variable wind, both in direction and intensity.

Among the fleet that will go out on the water on Saturday to fight for victory, there are two boats that stand out above the rest for the good results achieved in previous regattas. They are Virazón, skippered by Miguel Lago, who has been the leader since the start of the competition; and the Alumisel, by Guillermo Caamaño, who did not drop from second place and holds the provisional silver. In third position they are followed by Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero.

After this Saturday’s regattas, the J80 Class league, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and sponsored by SabadellGallego, with the collaboration of Vitaldent and the Xunta de Galicia, will continue on November 28 with the fourth and last stage of the competition.
