The main yacht clubs in Galicia will move their teams of 420 to Baiona this weekend to compete in the Baitra Trophy, a competition promoted by the Monte Real Club de Yates in which the best sailors in the class will meet.
Among them will be, among others, Martín Wizner from Vigo and Pedro Ameneiro from Pontevedra, who last January were crowned in Fremantle (Australia) as world champions under 17 in the 420 class. We will also see on the water the team formed by Jorge Enríquez and Guillermo Núñez, winners of the previous edition of the Baitra Trophy.
Sanxenxo, Vigo and Rodeira are the clubs that send the most sailors to Baiona, where more than fifty athletes between the ages of 15 and 18 will gather. Teams from Portosín and Oza will also participate in the trophy, as well as from the Monte Real Club de Yates itself.
The participating crews will sail as a fleet and will measure their strength in six regattas that the committee in charge of the organization will distribute, depending on how the weather behaves, between the days of Saturday and Sunday. Today the forecasts indicate that there will be good wind to race, from the north and more than 12 knots of intensity.
At the awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday at five in the afternoon, the manager of Baitra, Juan Carlos González, will participate, who for yet another year has established himself as one of the main promoters of grassroots sailing in Galicia through sponsorship of different competitions and events.
Also present will be the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; the president of the Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde and several directors of Monte Real.
In addition to having its own classification, the Baitra Trophy, of a classifying nature for the category, will continue to define the 420 ranking of the Galician Sailing Federation.

For two days, on Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th of February, more than fifty young sailors between the ages of 15 and 18, coming from clubs from all over Galicia, will compete on board the 420 class sailboats. The regatta committee has scheduled six tasks for them on a trapezoidal course that will be placed inside the bay of Baiona, delimited by buoys and visible from the surroundings.
The first three regattas will be held, if the weather permits, on Saturday from half past two in the afternoon, and the last ones will be held on Sunday from eleven in the morning, in order to end the day with the award ceremony around five in the afternoon at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates.
From the organization, the person in charge of the Sailing School of the Baiona club, Carlos Rúa, assures that “behind the trophy there is a very professional team, both at sea and on land, which will guarantee the success of a test that is very important because the participants are the future of sailing in Galicia”.
Among the participants we will see sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which last year placed its members at the top of the podium; and other clubs such as the Club Marítimo do Canido, the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira, the Club Marítimo de Portosín or the Club Marítimo de Oza.
Wearing a pendant from the organizing club, the teams formed by Nicolás Domínguez and Yago González will participate; and Rosalía Martínez and Sandra Trigo, a female couple who will try to improve the bronze they achieved in the previous edition.

The lack of wind forced to suspend today the third day of the Infinitus Rent Trophy, which since last January has been disputed in the bay of Baiona with the J80 as protagonists. The next appointment with the championship will be in 15 days, on Saturday, February 25, starting at 3:00 p.m. in the Bay of Baiona.
Although we were not able to contest the planned sleeves, there was a crew that stood out from the rest. It was that of the girls from the Pazo de Cea who, displaying their good humor and desire to enjoy themselves on the water, brought the carnival back to the regattas, as they had done the previous year. Hey for them!
· The J80s competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates crosses its equator tomorrow with the third of the six scheduled days
Miguel Lago’s Virazón commands in the standings just one point away from his immediate pursuer, the Portuguese Miudo
The day will be exciting due to how close the middle part of the classification is, with seven boats less than ten points apart
The J80 one-design fleet that has been competing in the Monte Real Club de Yates Winter League since last January will face off tomorrow, Saturday, in the third round of the Infinitus Rent Trophy. The sailboats will cross the equator of a competition that gets more interesting every day, with the leading crews separated by just one point and with a large number of boats closely grouped in the intermediate positions.
The three tasks scheduled for the third day will be played, as usual, starting at three in the afternoon in the Bay of Baiona, on a circuit of windward-leeward type buoys. The sailboats will have to complete a double round trip that will last around 45 minutes and in which the fastest starts and the most effective maneuvers when taking the buoys will once again be key to making jumps in the classification.
So far, with two days played, there are three boats that stand out from the rest. They are the Virazón de Miguel Lago, from the Monte Real Club de Yates, in first place as a rival to beat; the Portuguese Miudo from the We Do Sailing club, skippered by Francisca Barros and just one point behind the first; and the Cansino of the Commodore of Monte Real Fernando Yáñez, who is third.
In the middle part of the classification there are seven very tight boats, with just ten points separating the first and last, which augurs great competition in the races and excitement on the water.

From the Monte Real Club de Yates we want to congratulate King Felipe VI today on his 50th birthday with a very special video, which includes some images of his visits to the club over the years.
Don Felipe has been, since 1986, Honorary President of Monte Real , a position that was granted to him when he was still Prince of Asturias, and that he maintains to this day, being King of Spain.
The Prince of Asturias Trophy was also named in his honour, which began to be held in 1986 coinciding with his presence at the Military Naval School of Marín, where, at that time, he was completing his military training. The now King participated in that edition and was about to take victory aboard the Aifos.
Later it would also participate in the editions of 1987, 1988, 1991 and 2005. In 1998, Don Felipe’s boat won, although he did not participate; and in 1995 and 2010, the monarch returned to the club, although not to compete, but to award prizes to the winners.
The last time he visited us was in 2015, to inaugurate the 50th anniversary commemorative exhibition of the MRCYB.
With a total score of 23,152 points, and only surpassed by the Sailing School of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, the Monte Real Sailing School is in second position and is consolidated as a clear benchmark in sailing training in Galicia.
In addition to the dinghy sailing and cruising sailing courses that it offers to the general public (not exclusively to members), it has one of the best Adapted Sailing Schools for people with disabilities in the northwest of the peninsula, and one of the few that works throughout of the whole year.
The MRCYB Sailing School is also one of the only two schools in Galicia approved by the Galician Sailing Federation.

Miguel Lago from Vigo led the Virazón crew to the top of the trophy classification organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club
El Miudo by Francisca Barros and El Cansino by Fernando Yáñez remain on the provisional podium of the competition in second and third position
· Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen achieved the best results in the tests held today but the disqualification on the first day hampered its rise
Miguel Lago, from Vigo, led the Virazón crew to the top of the Infinitus Rent Trophy classification, which experienced its second day of testing this Saturday in the bay of Baiona.
With a fourth place and a first place in the two races held this afternoon, Virazón managed to climb, with 15 points, to the position of honor, dropping Miudo and Cansino, who were leaders. The boats skippered by Francisca Barros and Fernando Yáñez are now second and third respectively, with 16 and 20 points.
In fourth position, with 21 points, we find Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who was, without a doubt, one of the protagonists of the day. In the two heats held with a northerly wind of about 7 knots on average, he finished first and second, but the disqualification he suffered in the first stage hampered his promotion and he was just on the verge of the provisional podium.
In the middle part of the classification, barely separated by five points, were Guillermo Blanco’s Meltemi and Rosario García’s La Galera, both from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña; the Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, the Pazo de Cea by María Campos and the Namasté by Luis de Mira, who today had J70 sailor Ramón Ojea as a guest on board.
The classification of the Infinitus Rent Trophy is closed by Yago González-Robatto’s Cormorant II, Joaquín Cobelo López’s Marina Real, Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, Francisco J. Martínez’s SND Cormorant, Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo and Marías-Casas do Roof by Manuel María Cunha.
With the celebration of the second of the six scheduled days, the Infinitus Rent Trophy becomes increasingly exciting, both because of the equality that characterizes the competition of the J80 one-designs, identical to each other and haggling in real time, and because of the intensity that mark crews, always competing at the highest level.
The next appointment with the Winter League of the Monte Real Yacht Club is on February 10, starting at three in the afternoon, with a program of three windward-leeward regattas, of two laps each.

If the forecasts are fulfilled, the wind of between 6 and 10 knots from the north component will allow the celebration of the three tasks planned by the regatta committee. Three windward-leeward courses with which the boats that are in the lead will try to widen the gap with the rest of the fleet.
After the two opening races, Miudo and Cansino, with Afonso Leite and Fernando Yáñez leading the crews, were placed at the top of the standings, with 5 points each. Rosario García’s La Galera sailboat from A Coruña is third with 9 points, and close behind are Miguel Lago’s Virazón and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva with 10 and 11 points respectively.

· The sports program of the II Baiona Angra Atlantic Race will also offer a wide social and tourist agenda for the participating crews
Two years after the celebration of its first edition, the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race returns, one of the few ocean regattas organized from Spain, born in 2016 by the Monte Real Club de Yates (Galicia) and the Angra Iate Clube (Açores).
Both clubs have just announced today the opening of the registration period to participate in the second edition, which already has a date, and which will depart from Baiona (Galicia – Spain) to Angra do Heroismo (Açores – Portugal) on the 1st of July.
The competition, in which a maximum of 20 boats with a minimum length of 10 meters and a complete crew may participate, will maintain the scheme with which it was born. It will include two stages, round trip, of about 865 miles each.
In total, more than 1,700 miles and quite a challenge for the most adventurous sailors, who will not only have to face their rivals but, above all, face the harsh conditions of the Atlantic, fatigue, tiredness, lack of sleep or the ship’s own conditions, in which they will spend many days in a very small space and without seeing any land around.
This is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting events to be held in 2018, under the organization of one of the most emblematic clubs on the Spanish nautical scene, the Monte Real Club de Yates.
Recognized for having organized several editions of the Lymington-Baiona, several European and World Championships and numerous Match Race regattas, the Baiona club currently stands out for its historic Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias, which it has held uninterruptedly for more than thirty years.
A great sporting and social event for which the registration period is now open
Along with the sports program, one of the great attractions of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race is its extensive social agenda, which includes the celebration of various events for the enjoyment of the crews.
The sailors will be able to participate in meals, parties, excursions and tourist visits in Galicia and Açores. They will also have free moorings in both Baiona and Angra do Heroismo.

The Portuguese also set the record for the Angra do Heroismo-Baiona crossing, after being the fastest to complete it.
Other protagonists of the first edition of Baiona Angra were Cleopatra, also Portuguese, from the Asociación Nautica de Recreio, and Free Spirit, from the Real Club Marítimo de Abra–Real Sporting Club, who won silver and bronze respectively.
Also outstanding was the performance of the Saint Maxime del Monte Real Club de Yates, with Miguel Lago at the helm, awarded as the best boat of the first stage.

· El Cansino by Fernándo Yáñez del Monte Real and La Galera by Rosario García from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña were placed in second and third position
· The Monte Real Yacht Club Winter League lived up to its name and offered a typical winter day with leaden skies, cold and rain
The Miudo of the We Do Sailing club, skippered by the Portuguese Afonso Leite, scored the first podium of the Infinitus Trophy this Saturday in Baiona after winning on the opening day of the championship organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.
The Winter League of the Baiona club lived up to its name and presented itself to the J80 fleet with a typical winter day, with leaden skies, cold and rain. Despite the unfavorable conditions, the sailors came out wanting to make their debut in the first regatta of the year, and the committee forced, with considerable difficulty, the celebration of two tasks, in which a very shifty and low-intensity wind prevailed.
With the two courses shortened in the second passage through the windward buoy, the fleet achieved very different results. The first heat was won by Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino, skippered today by the former two-time Galician vaurien champion, Castor Alonso. In the second baton the crew lost some steam and finished fourth, finally falling to second place overall.
The victory of the second round was signed by the Portuguese Miudo, with a victory that, added to the fourth place achieved in the first round, gave them the provisional gold of the championship. The bronze went to the J80 La Galera, skippered by Rosario García, from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña.
Miguel Lago’s Virazón, who returned to the J80 competitions in Baiona after several months racing in the 6m class, is in fourth place and very close to him, just one point away, is Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva .
Completing the Monte Real Winter League classification are the Meltemi by Guillermo Blanco, the Pazo de Cea by María Campos, the Namasté by Luis de Mira and the Marina Real by Joaquin Cobelo. Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who had finished the tests in second position, fell to tenth place after the resolution of a protest against him.
Below him, Yago González-Robatto’s Cormorant II, Francisco J. Martínez’s SND Cormorant, Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo, Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes and Manuel Maria Cunha’s Marías.
The Infinitus Rent Trophy returns to Baiona at the end of the month, with the second day of tests on Saturday, January 25.

The Monte Real Club de Yates inaugurates the regatta season with a six-day championship in which the J80 monotypes will compete exclusively
The Infinitus Rent Trophy tests will take place from next weekend until the end of March in the waters of the Bay of Baiona
The Monte Real Winter League is the first of the 15 competitions that the club has scheduled in its 2018 sports calendar
The 2018 sailing season loosens its moorings this weekend in Baiona with the celebration of the Infinitus Rent Trophy, the traditional winter league of the Monte Real Club de Yates in which, for yet another year, sailboats of the class will once again compete exclusively J80.
For six days, on January 13 and 27, February 10 and 24, and March 10 and 24, the monotypes will compete, at various points in the bay of Baiona, a series of windward-leeward routes that will be designed by a regatta committee with Fernando Giraldo in front.
Carrying a maximum crew weight of 350 kilos on board, the J80s will sail in a fleet and compete in real time. The fortnightly scores will be added to the final classification from which the winner of the championship will come out.
In the previous edition of the Monte Real Winter League, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen was the winner, haggling with his usual crew, made up of Diego Fernández, Jaime de la Gándara and Hugo Ferreiro; and sentenced the competition with fourteen first places in the sixteen contested races.
Second place went to the Miudo by Storax, a boat with a Portuguese accent through which several crews passed; and the bronze for Miguel Lago’s Virazón, another of the regulars on the podiums of J80 competitions in Galicia.
The J80 Class Winter League of the Monte Real Yacht Club is sponsored this year by Infinitus Rent, a company born from the merger of four technological renting marketing companies in Spain. With more than 7 years of experience in the sector and an annual turnover of around 12 million euros, Infinitus Rent presents itself as an opportunity for investors who want to obtain optimal profitability in the medium term.
At the press conference to present the trophy, held this morning in Baiona, the Business Development Director of Infinitus Rent, Alberto Rodríguez, assured that “The healthy competitiveness that exists in the world of sailing is an example of how to act in the world of sports, and a philosophy -he said- extrapolated to numerous aspects of the company ”. It was these values that, he affirmed, led them to support two of the Monte Real proposals: the J80 Class Winter League and the Solidarity Vertiathlon, with which the club raises funds for its Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities.
The president and vice president of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza also participated in the presentation; the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; the territorial secretary of the Xunta de Galicia in Vigo, Yolanda Lesmes; and the president of the Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde.
The first of the 15 competitions of the 2018 season
The Infinitus Rent Trophy is the first of the 15 competitions that the Monte Real Club de Yates has scheduled in its 2018 sports calendar. Among the most important events on this schedule, it is worth mentioning the Spanish Championship of the J80 class, which will be held at the end of April as part of the traditional Repsol Trophy.
Also noteworthy is the return of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, and the celebration, once again, of two of the most important sailing events in Spain, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy and the Prince of Asturias Trophy. The delivery of the National Sailing Awards, the Galician Solo and Two-handed Championship or the Solidarity Vertiathlon are other events that Monte Real will organize for another year in Baiona.
