· More than twenty boats will compete for the Comunica Trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club
· The start will be given at two in the afternoon in front of the transatlantic pier in Vigo and the finish line will be placed inside the Bay of Baiona
· The awards ceremony for the winners will be held at seven in the afternoon at Monte Real
More than twenty boats will compete this Holy Saturday in the Vigo estuary for a new edition of the Comunica Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.
The regatta committee, chaired by Fernando Giraldo, will start the race at two in the afternoon in front of the transatlantic dock in Vigo, from where the sailboats will begin a journey of about 15 miles that will take them to the outskirts of Baiona.
After turning at an unmarking mark, the fleet must comply with several obligatory steps, located at the La Negra, Subrido and Carallones marks, to finally reach the bay of Baiona, where the finish line will be installed.
Among the clubs that will compete in this new edition of the Comunica Trophy, are the Ro Yachts Club, represented by the Abal Lawyers-Lagar de Pintos-Fanautic de Mariano Dios; the Bouzas Maritime Lyceum, with the Salao by Juan Carlos Sigre; the Maritime Club of Canido, with the Bosch Service Solutions by Ramón Ojea; the Rías Baixas Maritime Club, with the Galopín by José Luis Mosquera; the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo, with La Burla Negra by Juan José Martínez; the Monte Real Yacht Club, with the Yess Too by Rui Ramada; or the Nautical Club of Portonovo, represented by the Albarellos , by Fernando Rey.
After opening the season with the J80 Winter League, the Comunica Trophy is the first cruise competition on the Monte Real calendar, which has seven more competitions planned for 2019, including the famous Conde de Gondomar Trophy (in July) and the Prince of Asturias Trophy (in September).
· The Monte Real Yacht Club opens its cruise season this Holy Saturday with the celebration of the Comunica Trophy between Vigo and Baiona
· The participating sailboats, among which there will also be one-design Figaros and J80s, must complete a 15-mile coastal course
· The start of the regatta will take place in front of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which collaborates in the organization of the Monte Real competition
The Monte Real Club de Yates inaugurates its 2019 cruise season this Easter with the celebration, next Holy Saturday, of the Comunica Trophy, a coastal regatta between Vigo and Baiona that the participating sailboats will compete in starting at two in the afternoon .
It will be at that time that the regatta’s starting horn will be heard in front of the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which once again collaborates with Monte Real in organizing the competition.
From Vigo to Baiona, the Comunica Trophy fleet will have to complete a 15-mile route in which, according to forecasts, a favorable wind will remain, some strong enough to allow them to complete the route without incident. The regatta will also be held on a fairly clear day, with pleasant temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees, and little sea.
Among the participating fleet are some of the winners of the previous edition, who will seek to revalidate victory. This is the case of the Portuguese Rui Ramada, who in 2018 won the victory of his class aboard the MBA Atlántico and who this time will participate at the controls of the Yess Too.
Another of the 2018 winners will also be among the participants, the Balea Dous of the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira, with the usual good work of Luis Pérez at the controls.
Another company that has also announced its participation in the competition is Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions, from the Club Marítimo de Canido, who will return for the gold that escaped him the previous year, in which he had to make do with third place bronze. Among the J80, the winner of the last edition also repeats, which was Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva.
The registration period to participate in the Comunica Trophy is still open and anyone who wishes to compete can register until the day of the regatta itself. Registration is free and participating boats will also have a 50 percent discount on registration for the Repsol Trophy, which Monte Real organizes once again to coincide with the May 1 long weekend.
The Comunica Trophy is sponsored, for the third consecutive year, by Comunica Comunicación Visual, a firm that offers printing services, signs, industrial design, acrylic items… throughout Galicia from the municipality of A Guarda, where its main headquarters are located. Several of its managers and area managers will participate in the awards ceremony for the winners, which will be held on the same Saturday as the competition starting at seven in the afternoon at the Monte Real Club de Yates facilities.
· The sailboat skippered by Javier de la Gándara sentenced the championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates, which celebrated its last day today
Okofen thus recovers the title of the J80 winter league that it had achieved in 2017 and lost in 2018 at the hands of the Portuguese Miudo de Francisca Barros
· The Cansino of the Commodore of Monte Real Fernado Yáñez and the Miudo skippered by Carlos Hernández were second and third
Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen left its mark once again in the territory of the J80 in Galicia, where for years it has been, without a doubt, one of the most outstanding boats and with the most awards in its history.
After receiving the title of “Best J80 of the 2018 season” a few days ago, awarded by the Galician Sailing Federation, the crew of the Okofen collected this afternoon in Baiona a new award for their collection, the winner of the Winter League of J80.
It also did so forcefully, by managing to get a large margin from its most direct competitors. 8 points away from the second classified and 12 from the third placed him on the top of the podium of the championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates since last January.
Of the six days of competition scheduled in the sports program for the trophy, the weather only allowed three of them to be held, and Okofen took victory in two. He only gave his rivals a break on one of the days, in which El Cansino momentarily managed to steal the provisional podium.
It was precisely this boat, skippered by the commodore of the Monte Real Yacht Club, Fernando Yáñez, which finally took second place in the classification, with 15 points.
The third position, with 19 points, was occupied by Miudo de Carlos Hernández.
This Saturday’s session, which was held with a west-northwest wind of between 15 and 20 knots, left very mixed results, with surprising ups and downs in the different tests. This was the case of Okofen, which had signed all the results so far with first and second places, and today fell to sixth position in one of the tests; and other boats such as the Luna Nueva or the Mondo, which had not been able to sneak into the places of honor, and today achieved two second places.
Finally, after the gold, silver and bronze positions of Okofen, Cansino and Miudo, and the entry into play of a discard, Luis de Mira’s Namasté came fourth; Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, fifth; and Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo, sixth.
Seventh place went to Pazo de Cea skippered by María Campos, and Javier Martínez Valente’s Cunichán was eighth. Closing the classification, the Cormorán II, the Ferralemes and the Virazón, who could not compete in all the contested tests.
After the celebration of this last day this afternoon in Baiona and the subsequent award ceremony for the winners, the Monte Real Club de Yates put an end to what was the first competition of its 2019 sports season.
The next appointment on its regatta calendar is the Comunica Trophy, for which the club has already published the Notice of Regatta and opened the registration period. It will be held on April 20, coinciding with Easter, and will once again have the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, from where the race will take place.

· The one-design competition organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club will be decided this Saturday in the last three scheduled regattas starting at 3:00 p.m.
Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen , Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino and Luis de Mira’s Namasté are the sailboats with the most options to get on the final podium
· Once the competition is over in the bay of Baiona, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host the awards ceremony for the winners and a seafood dinner
Tomorrow, Saturday, the last round of the J80 Winter League will be held, which the Monte Real Club de Yates has been organizing for the one-design fleet since January.
Starting at three in the afternoon, the Bay of Baiona will be the scene of a new dispute between the J80 fleet for a place on the winners’ podium. There will be three new tests that will close the scoreboard and define the final classification.
The Okofen of Javier de la Gándara, the Cansino of Fernando Yáñez and the Namasté of Luis de Mira are the sailboats with the most options to sneak into the final podium, since they currently occupy the three positions of honor.
Okofen , with 7 points and the usual good work of De la Gándara, has many possibilities to win the gold of the competition, since, in addition, the margin of 6 points that he managed to get from his most direct rivals gives him some peace of mind .
Cansino and Namasté , very regular and with good performances throughout the league, remain tied on 13 points in second and third place respectively, and are the ones with the best chance, together with Okofen , of closing the league by ensuring a trophy.
In the middle part of the classification everything is very open since there are many jacks grouped in a very narrow point band. Carlos Hernández’s Miudo is fourth with 18 points, followed by Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo , Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva and María Campos’ Pazo de Cea with 20, 21 and 22 points respectively.
With this panorama in the provisional classification tomorrow, Saturday, the last day will be held with a forecast of good wind to celebrate the three final tests. At the end in the water, the awards ceremony on land and a seafood dinner for the participants.

A group of students from the British town of Manchester sailed this Monday through the bay of Baiona thanks to the offer of the Monte Real Yacht Club.
The schoolchildren, between 10 and 11 years of age, are visiting Val Miñor these days for a language exchange with the Humberto Juanes de Nigrán Infant and Primary School. “From Manchester to Nigrán” is an activity that both municipalities have consolidated over time, and which in 2019 celebrates its fifteenth edition.
On this occasion, in addition to maintaining some of the activities that they had been carrying out in previous years, such as popular games, a bike ride or a getaway to the Cíes, the students were able to approach the sport of sailing for the first time.
They did it hand in hand with the trainers from Monte Real, who offered both them and the students from Nigrán who participate in the exchange, a series of basic knowledge to be able to sail. They also accompanied them on their first nautical experience, which they enjoyed aboard the club’s sailboats.
The Barbeira beach and the waters closest to the club were the scene of the test gymkhana that was prepared for the little ones on a morning in which the weather was on their side, providing them with a sunny day and very good temperatures.
CEIP Humberto Juanes, near the Nigrán Town Hall, is the largest school in the municipality, with nearly 400 students. Fifth and sixth grade students participate in this exchange with the boys and girls of Saint John’s Primary School in Manchester.
After the sailing activity carried out on Monte Real, the exchange participants will say goodbye this afternoon at the Baiona campsite, where the British students will spend their last night in Val Miñor before returning to Manchester tomorrow, Tuesday.
This will complete a new edition, the fifteenth already, of the “From Manchester to Nigran”, an activity that has been developed with great involvement by the educational community of both schools, in which the Nigrán and Baiona town councils, the Xunta de Galicia and entities such as the Monte Real Club have also added their grain of sand. of yachts.

· The penultimate day of tests that was going to be held this afternoon in Baiona was finally suspended due to poor conditions for navigation
· A wind that did not want to stabilize and disappeared at times led to the suspension of the three tests that tried to be held without success
The winners’ podium, provisionally held by Okofen, Cansino and Namasté, will be decided on the last day scheduled for April 6
A wind that did not want to stabilize and disappeared at times forced to suspend, this afternoon in Baiona, the penultimate day of the J80 Winter League organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates.
Difficulties in defining the regatta field, a general call, route changes, a test suspended as soon as it started and another when it was halfway through were some of the situations that were experienced this afternoon in the bay of Baiona.
It was, without a doubt, a very complicated day for navigation, in which the ideal conditions for holding the competition were never achieved. Thus, and after several unsuccessful hours on the water, the regatta committee decided to suspend the day.
With this situation, the J80 Winter League will reach its last stage with everything still to be decided. Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen is currently the favorite to win the title. After winning the previous day, he took 7 points from Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino and Luis de Mira’s Namasté, who are tied for second and third position.
Despite everything, and with three races to be held, it is not yet possible to speak of a clear winner of the one-design championship, which will be decided, if the wind allows it, on April 6. For that day, in addition to the final dispute in the water, the award ceremony for the winners of the J80 Winter League is planned.
· With the arrival of spring, the winter one-design competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates is now in its final stretch
· Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen will arrive tomorrow, Saturday, at the penultimate matchday at the top of the standings and 7 points behind their closest rivals
Fernando Yáñez’s El Cansino and Luis de Mira’s Namasté, tied on points in second and third position, will try to establish themselves on the podium
With the arrival of spring, just inaugurated this week, the J80 Winter League of the Monte Real Club de Yates now faces its final stretch with the celebration, this Saturday, of the penultimate day of tests.
The Okofen, led by Javier de la Gándara, is the best-placed sailboat in the provisional classification after the victory it achieved the previous day, in which it took the lead from Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino.
They are followed, at a certain distance, and tied on points, by Cansino and Namasté, skippered by Luis de Mira. They occupy, respectively, the second and third position and are, to date, the crews with the most options to snatch the championship gold from Gándara.
Tomorrow, Saturday, starting at three in the afternoon, we will again see the ten J80 participants fighting to climb positions in the classification towards the podium. The regatta committee plans to start three tests of the windward-leeward type in a regatta field that will be located inside the bay of Baiona.
The weather forecast announces north-northwest winds that will shift to pure north as the hours go by, and that will blow with an intensity of between 6 and 9 knots, which will allow the fleet to navigate without problems.
In addition, the sun will shine, which will allow the public that comes to the Monte Boi peninsula or the surrounding beaches to enjoy the competition.
All those who have missed the SPECIAL ON THE MONTE REAL YACHT CLUB broadcast by Radio Galega know that you can listen to it through the following link:
For one hour, Galician public radio addressed the history and current affairs of the Monte Real Yacht Club , with interventions by the president and vice president of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza ; Admiral Rafael Lorenzo ; the club’s manager, Óscar Calero ; and the sailing coach, David Fontán .

On board the Okofen and haggling with his usual crew, the historic sailor from Vigo showed why in a few days he will receive the award from the Royal Galician Sailing Federation for the best J80 in Galicia
· De la Gándara sentenced the fourth day of the J80 Winter League of the Monte Real Club de Yates with two very comfortable victories in the two races held this afternoon in the Bay of Baiona
Its climb to first place in the championship dropped Cansino owned by Commodore del Monte Real Fernándo Yáñez to second place and left Namasté by Luis de Mira in third place
A relentless Javier de la Gándara led Okofen this afternoon to the top of the J80 Winter League classification, which the Monte Real Club de Yates has been organizing since the beginning of the year in the bay of Baiona.
On this fourth day, with only two stages remaining in the championship, Gándara and his team managed to climb from third position to first. They did it convincingly, leading the fleet from start to finish, and taking a significant margin from their rivals when they crossed the finish line.
They comfortably sentenced the two tests that were held with a fairly light wind, which blew from the west with an average of between 5 and 6 knots. Despite the fact that the forecasts announced that the wind would disappear by mid-afternoon, the regatta committee, chaired by Fernando Giraldo, was encouraged to start a third race that finally had to be canceled halfway through because the wind dropped completely.
With the rise of Okofen to the first position, the Cansino of the Commodore of Monte Real, Fernando Yáñez, who was leading, is now second, tied on 13 points with the Namasté of Luis de Mira. Both, and despite being somewhat removed from Okofen ‘s 7 points, are the two crews with the best chance of remaining on the final podium.
At a greater distance are, with 18 points, the Miudo led by Carlos Hernández; the Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo with 20 points; Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero with 21; and the Pazo de Cea de María Campos with 22. They close the classification on Cormorant II by Yago G. Robatto; and two boats that could not compete today: the Virazón of Miguel Lago and the Cunichan by Javier Martinez Valente.
The next day of competition will be held on March 23 and there will only be one more stage left, on April 6, to decide the winner of the J80 Winter League.
VARIOUS RECOGNITIONS TO JAVIER DE LA GANDARA
Before resuming the J80 Winter League on the 23rd, Javier de la Gándara will collect, next week in A Coruña, two of the distinctions that will be awarded at the Galician Sailing Gala, organized by the Royal Galician Sailing Federation.
One of the awards recognizes him and his Okofen team, made up of Jaime de la Gándara, Diego Fernández and Hugo Ferreiro; as the Best J80 Crew in Galicia in 2018. It was a year in which they achieved, among other victories, the bronze medal at the Spanish Championship held in Baiona.
De la Gándara will also collect at the Gala de la Vela Gallega the special distinction granted to the “Galicia 93 Pescanova” project, led by the sailor from Vigo. This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary since his return to Vigo after achieving a podium finish in the Whitbread Round The World 93-94.

El Cansino became this Saturday the first leader of the Winter League that the Monte Real Yacht Club organizes in the Bay of Baiona and in which J80 class monotypes compete exclusively
· The sailboat skippered by Commodore del Monte Real Fernando Yáñez closed the markers of the third day with two points, which was the first scoring after two attempts to start frustrated by the weather
· After two contested races and a third started but finally canceled due to lack of wind, Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen were placed in second and third position in the provisional classification
El Cansino became the first leader of the J80 class Winter League this Saturday, which is organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and is held until next April in the bay of Baiona.
The sailboat skippered by the commodore of the Baionese club Fernando Yáñez closed the markers of the third day -the first scoring after the cancellation of the first two due to the weather- with two points in the two races played with a fairly weak northwest wind , with an average of 4-5 knots and peaks of 7.
In the first race, Cansino crossed the finish line ahead of Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen and Luis de Mira’s Namasté , who placed second and third. The crossing of the three by the finish line was very tight and that situation was repeated in the second race.
In it, Cansino reiterated its victory, and the second and third places turned around compared to the initial test, placing Luis de Mira’s Namasté ahead of Okofen de la Gándara.
The regatta committee, chaired by José Ángel Rodríguez, started a third test but the sailboats could barely dispute half an hour of test, since the wind disappeared completely and left the jacks stalled without being able to complete it.
Thus, Cansino with 2 points, and Namasté and Okofen with 5, are fully involved in the fight for victory in the Winter League. Further down the ranking are, with 10 points, the Mondo by Bernardo Macedo; with 11 the Miudo de Carlos Hernández and the Pazo de Cea de María Campos; with 12 the New Moon; and closing the classification three boats that have not yet been able to open the scoring, Yago G. Robatto’s Cormorant II; the Virazo n of Miguel Lago and the Cunichan by Javier Martinez Valente.
After this opening day, the J80 Winter League returns to the water in fifteen days, on Saturday, March 9, with the fourth round of tests, which will be the second scoring. Once again, three windward-leeward routes for a fleet willing to fight for a title that will be resolved on the last day, scheduled for April 6.

· Twenty students and volunteers today planted 200 autochthonous carballos in Baiona to bring life to a piece of land near the Virgen de la Roca that was burned in the wave of fires in October 2017
· This initiative, together with other actions of respect, environmental awareness and social commitment carried out by the Monte Real Yacht Club in 2018, have earned the club the seal of “Event with good atmosphere Coca Cola”
· Among the measures implemented by the club are the installation of recycling points, the promotion of talks on environmental awareness, the programming of beach cleaning days or the hiring of personnel with difficult social insertion
Twenty students from the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club, accompanied by a group of volunteers, authorities and members of the club, planted 200 native trees this morning in Baiona.
They did so with the aim of reforesting and restoring life to land near the Virgen de la Roca, one of the most outstanding monuments of the fishing village, which was burned in the wave of fires recorded in October 2017.
The reforestation was carried out with autochthonous oaks since it is a species that takes longer to burn and does not favor the spread of fires, unlike pyrophilic species such as eucalyptus or pine.
In addition to mitigating the expansion of eucalyptus, a highly flammable tree that, due to its economic profitability and its easy and rapid growth, has spread widely in Galicia, the Monte Real Club de Yates has also tried to offset its annual carbon footprint, estimated at almost 12 tons of CO2.
During the development of the reforestation activity, the president and vice president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza, received from the hands of the communication manager of Coca Cola European Partners, María Troncoso, the seal “Event with good atmosphere Coca Cola”.
It is a distinction that recognizes institutions, entities and initiatives for their respect for the environment, environmental awareness and social commitment; and that in this case distinguishes the Baiona club not only for the reforestation carried out today in Baiona but for the sum of actions carried out throughout 2018.
Among the measures implemented by the club are the installation of recycling points, the promotion of talks on environmental awareness, the programming of beach cleaning days or the hiring of personnel with difficult social insertion.
The club’s Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities, constant cleanliness during events, avoiding the use of disposable items and minimizing the materials supplied to participants were other actions valued by Coca Cola when granting its Seal to Monte Real.
The club adds this new distinction to those of the Blue Flag, which it has maintained since 1988; the Q for Tourist Quality, which it received in 2018; or the recognition of the ADEAC for the elimination of architectural barriers and care for people with disabilities.
In addition to the president and vice president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza; and the communication manager of Coca Cola European Partners, María Troncoso; The mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal, also participated in the reforestation carried out by the students of the MRCYB Sailing School; the president of the Juan María de Nigrán Center, José Santoro; and several members of the Community of Montes de Santa María de Afora.
