Namasté became the first leader of the AXA J80 Autumn League this afternoon after winning the opening day of the one-design competition that Monte Real Club de Yates, sponsored by AXA Seguros, will hold until the end of November.
The sailboat, skippered by Luis de Mira, won the victory after signing a first, a third and a second in the three tests with windward-leeward format of double lap that were disputed inside the Bay of Baiona, in two different regatta fields.
The first test was, without a doubt, the most complicated due to the instability of the wind, which continuously rolled, rose and fell, and even disappeared at times. Given the situation, the race committee wisely decided to move the test field and move it further out, where they encountered a southwesterly wind with an intensity of between 10 and 12 knots.
The new scenario made it possible to celebrate the other two tests scheduled in the program, not exempt from some role and some drop in intensity, which in any case did not force the field to be modified again. The fleet sailed more evenly, with very close entries, which even generated occasional protests that were resolved without problems.
Luis de Mira’s Namasté, with a somewhat different crew than the one it maintained throughout the 2019 regatta season, managed to beat the rest of the fleet with 6 points.
It relegated José Luis Pérez Vázquez’s Maija to second place, which was, without a doubt, one of the sailboats that haggled the best on this day. He started very strongly, signing a first and a second, but a fall to sixth position in the last test took away the final victory.
Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, another of the regulars on the J80 league podiums, had to settle for third place.
Thus, the provisional podium was formed at the start of the J80 one-design autumn league, in which Fernándo Yáñez’s Cansino and Santiago Estévez’s Spaco are fourth and fifth in the provisional classification.
The AXA J80 Autumn League will maintain the same format as in previous editions and will play the different days with a 15-day break between them, except in the last stage. Thus, the next appointment with the monotypes in Baiona will be on November 9; and there will be two more days on November 23 and 30. It will be that day, the last of the month, the closing of the competition, with the award ceremony for the winners and a dinner for the entire participating fleet.

Baiona hosts this Saturday from three in the afternoon the first day of the AXA J80 Autumn League, the last round of the sports season of the Monte Real Club de Yates in this 2019. The Baionese club closes its competitions of the year with the celebration of 4 regatta days for J80 sailboats, a class for which it has been betting for years.
With a fleet of eleven sailboats in contention, the league will start without a clear favorite on the water, since the winner of the last two editions, Javier de la Gándara from Vigo, will be absent on this occasion as he finds himself fine-tuning the boat ahead of the 2020 season.
The participation of the rest of the crews that completed the podium in 2018 is expected: the Marías Casas do Telhado of the Portuguese Manuel María Cunha, who will be second; and Luna Nueva by Asturian Juan Luis Tuero, who won the bronze.
Together with them we will see regulars from the highest positions in the J80 leagues, such as Commodore del Monte Real’s Cansino, Fernando Yáñez; the Namaste by Luis de Mira; the Maija de Iñigo Alzueta or the Pazo de Cea, among others. Two new boats will join them in this new edition of the autumn competition: the Petrilla, from Sanxenxo, with Jaime Barreiro at the helm; and the Spaco, by Santiago Estevez.
Directing everything on the water, at the head of the regatta committee, will be Fernando Giraldo, who will be in charge of designing the test field based on a weather forecast that announces winds from the south southwest of between 11 and 12 knots with peaks of up to 18 knots at times Good wind conditions, without a doubt, for the dispute of the three sleeves foreseen in the inaugural program.

The IOM Class 1 Meter International Radio Control Sailing Qualifying Regatta will be held in the waters of the Marina del Monte Real Yacht Club on Saturday, October 19, 2019, being organized by this Club by delegation of the Galician Sailing Federation and in this way :
RULES
The Regatta will be governed by:
a) The regatta rules as defined in the WORLD SAILING (WS) Racing Rules of Sailing 2017 – 2020 (RRV), with the modifications in its appendix E.
b) The Measurement Rules for the International One Meter Class
c) The tests may be arbitrated, then Appendix Q of the IRSA in force will apply.
d) The Sailing Instructions (IR) and the Announcement of Races (AR). In case of discrepancy between the AR and the IR, the latter will prevail.
e) If they are not arbitrated, the Simplified System for Hearings of Protests SYRPH 2013 of the IRSA will be applied. (see IR Annex 1).
f) Each skipper may only use one boat in the regatta and in the event of a breakdown, it would have to be repaired. If the Regatta Committee/Jury considers that the damage to the boat is minor, it will give it a time of 5 minutes for its repair and after that time the races will resume even if the repair has not been completed. In the event of a serious breakdown, you can repair it but the heats will continue to be disputed.
g) Only in the event of a very serious damage to the hull, the boat may be changed, as long as the authorization of the Regatta Committee/Jury is obtained.
h) Each skipper may only use a set of class A, B and C sails, being able to change any of these sails for another of the same model only in case of breakage and with the authorization of the Regatta/Jury Committee.
ADVERTISING
Vessels may be required to display advertising for the sponsor of the regatta in accordance with Regulation 20 of the WS, the RFEV Competition Regulations and the Prescriptions of the RFEV to Regulation 20 of the WS. Any class rule that opposes this provision is modified.
ELIGIBILITY
3.1 Participants must meet the eligibility requirements of the WS reflected in Regulation 19 of the WS and the Prescriptions of the RFEV to said Regulation.
3.2 This Regatta will be open and not limited, where the participants must have the corresponding Federal License

7.3. The safety of this regatta will be considered as category 4 (reduced) in accordance with the Special Rules for High Seas Regatta of WS and adapted to the particular regulations of the Galician Fleet of J80.
7.4. All boats will have to be equipped with a VHF radio with channels 16, 09, 71 and 72.
7.5. It will be the responsibility of the owner or skipper of each boat to comply with the legal regulations established for recreational boats, both in general and in particular for their government, dispatch and security.
8. SCORING SYSTEM
8.1. The Low Score system described in Appendix A of the RRS will apply.
8.2. There will be one (1) discard from 6 or more races held and two (2) discards from 11 or more races held.

The wind was once again the protagonist in the second call of the year for the Galician Solitary and Two-handed Championship, which was held today, Saturday, October 5, as part of the Prima Vinia Trophy and organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates y the Royal Galician Sailing Federation. Although it was difficult for Eolo to enter, finally the Regatta Committee was able to give the start for a single coastal race as planned, in which Salaño Dos of the Vigo team formed by Jacobo Vecino and Brenda Maure was the winner.
Yesterday, Friday, after the confirmation of registrations and safety checks at the Baion club, the organization and skippers agreed to delay the start of the regatta by one hour due to the forecast of very light winds until noon today. The conditions, in any case, did not prevent the fleet from fighting this time for one of the most anticipated titles of the season.
Thus, after several hours of waiting in the water, it was not until after 3:15 p.m. today that the fleet was able to hear the warning signal for a departure located in front of the Cíes Islands and with very light wind conditions, although little by little they increased until the seven or eight knots of intensity in the final stretch of the regatta.
The route, finally about seven and a half miles, took the fleet from the start to the Tofiño mark to then set course for Subrido, where the Committee opted to shorten the route and place the finish line before the wind started to fall again.
The first to complete the test was Salaño Dos with a reversed time of two hours and six seconds, also achieving a more than enough advantage to also win in compensated time and thus become the new Galician champion of A Dos. From behind, the J80 ¡Ay Carmela! –which scored both for the one-design general classification and for the A Dos- took second place and third place was occupied by the Bon III of Víctor Carrión and Ana Sardiña.
In addition to the regional title, the Baionesa event also closed the 2019 Rías Baixas A Dos Circuit. After holding the Vuelta a Cíes, Vuelta a Barbanza, Faro de Corrubedo Gran Trofeo and the Paco Alvariñas Memorial events, the Prima Vinia Trophy has put an end to one of the most demanding circuits of the season, in which victory it has also been for Salaño Dos. Last June, the lack of wind prevented the fleet from completing the route that would define the Galician champions of the Solitaires and A Dos divisions in 2019 on time. Now, almost four months later, the Monte Real Club de Yates reconvenes these two classes to put the regional title back into play within the framework of the Prima Vinia Trophy. The appointment, in addition, will also end the Rías Baixas A Dos Circuit and will pay tribute to Don Rafael Olmedo, who was president of the Baion club for more than 40 years.
With the start scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday at 11:00 am, a large part of the teams are already in Baiona to confirm their participation in this second call for one of the most anticipated tests of the season. It is the eighth consecutive year in which the Royal Galician Sailing Federation delegates the organization of this regatta to Monte Real and the truth is that, after having lost the title in June, the club has chosen to repeat the championship before the end seasonal.
The classes that will opt for the award will be the same ones that already participated in the first call. There will be a Solitaire division, in which ships with only one crew member compete; class A Two, for those in which two people sail on board, and the J80 monotypes will also compete.
Among those registered are names such as Víctor Carrión and Ana Sardiña with the Bon III, winners of the Rías Baixas Circuit last year; El Cansino by Nano Yáñez and Ignacio Sánchez; the local Ferralemes by Jaime García, or the Fend la Bise by Jean Claude Sarrade and André Lopes. A large part of the J80 fleet that usually competes in Baiona will not be missing either, so there is no doubt that victory will be more than disputed.
Although everything will depend on the weather conditions that occur tomorrow, the Regatta Committee initially plans to give a single start in the bay of Baiona that will take the fleet to complete a route of some 26.2 miles through the Vigo estuary and near the Cíes Islands, before heading back to the bay. The time it takes for the fleet to complete the regatta will depend on the wind, and for the moment everything indicates that Eolo will blow with a soft intensity.
In addition to the Galician title, the Baiona event will also be the last of the season scoring for the Rías Baixas Dos Circuit. After the Vuelta a Cíes, Vuelta a Barbanza, Faro de Corrubedo Grand Trophy and the Paco Alvariñas Memorial events, the winners of the prestigious circuit will be announced tomorrow, Saturday, at the Galician Championship for the class.

The fourth edition of the Amar o mar program has brought together, between yesterday and today, almost a hundred participants from nursing homes and public centers for people with disabilities in Redondela, Ourense and Lugo.
It is an initiative that the Baionese club is launching again in collaboration with the Department of Social Policy

With this initiative, the Monte Real Yacht Club reaffirms its commitment to bring the sea closer to all those people for whom it can lead to an improvement in their quality of life
Nearly a hundred participants in the Amar o mar program gathered yesterday, Wednesday, and this morning in Baiona to enjoy an initiative with which the Ministry of Social Policy and the Monte Real Yacht Club try to bring the sea closer to people elderly and disabled.
In this fourth edition of Amar o mar there were a total of 96 participants, including users and monitors from the centres, who were able to enjoy a fun and recreational day. The group that has participated in these two days of the program has been made up of older people from the Nosa Señora dos Milagres de Barbadás residences, in Ourense, and As Gándaras, in Lugo, and from the Redondela Center for Disabled Persons (CAPD ), which is also part of the annual program of the MRCYB Adapted Sailing School. The truth is that some of the CAPD students who participated in this initiative had previously taken sailing courses at the Baionese club.
The activity, which was born in 2016 with the aim of helping users of public residences in the interior of Galicia to maintain an adequate level of social and personal well-being, has once again been very well received this year and today it has had the support and the presence of José Ignacio Martínez, Head of the Xunta’s Dependency and Personal Autonomy Service; Concepción Vara, councilor for Social Services, Mobility and Accessibility of the Baiona City Council, and Óscar Martínez, deputy mayor of Baiona. The three have been accompanied by the president and vice president of the club, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza.
After the visit to the facilities of the Baionese club, around 12:30 p.m. the participants of Amar o mar went to the pontoons to embark and sail through the bay to the vicinity of the Cíes Islands, thus approaching the nautical world in direct contact with the sea. The program also included a meal on board before returning to land.
With this initiative, Monte Real reaffirms its commitment to the fight for social integration. For years the club has collaborated with the administration in programs such as the one carried out today and also has its own program of courses at the Adapted Sailing School, aimed at offering the possibility of enjoying sailing to people with functional diversity from different associations in Galicia.
·The participation of more than 200 triathletes in the Solidarity Vertiathlon allowed more than 6,300 euros to be raised so that people with functional diversity can practice sports in equal conditions
·The young Xosé Pérez Blanco, barely 17 years old from the Lamargha-Beariz Triathlon club, was the fastest to complete the test, crossing the finish line under the hour (59 minutes and 51 seconds)

Another success of the Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona, which this Saturday celebrated its fifth edition with the collection of 6,300 euros for the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Club de Yates, which has been working for years for the inclusion of people with functional diversity in the nautical world , so that they can enjoy the sea under equal conditions.
Being able to offer more courses, activities and better services to people with physical, mental, sensory or intellectual disabilities is the main objective of the joint forces of Monte Real and the Baiona city council when it comes to promoting this solidarity triathlon, in the which also collaborated, one more year, the Galician Triathlon Federation at an organizational level, and Verti Seguros as the main sponsor of the event.
An event that generated great expectation this Saturday on the beaches and streets of Baiona, where hundreds of people, on a spectacular summer day, gathered to cheer on the more than 200 participating athletes, who completed a sprint triathlon with the sea always at their side. the view, since it is precisely this peculiarity, that of being held in a 100% maritime setting, one of the greatest attractions of the Baiona Vertiathlon.
After swimming the 750 meters that separate A Barbeira beach from the A Ribeira sandbank, the athletes cycled almost 20 kilometers along the streets of Baiona closest to the sea and finished the triathlon by running 5 kilometers along the Monte Boi peninsula, surrounding the historic Parador de Baiona.
Under the hour he completed the Vertiathlon route, the 17-year-old Xosé Pérez Blanco, from the Lamargha Beariz Triathlon, breaking the finish line in 59 minutes and 51 seconds. He was the fastest of all and won the grand prize of the sprint triathlon, winning the men’s absolute category. Anais Rivas Torres won the absolute female category, with a great performance and a result of one hour and eight minutes at the finish line.
In the category of male veterans, Pedro Pablo Bernárdez climbed to the top of the podium; and Silvia Deira Barcala, from the Vedra Olympic Club did the same in the category of female veterans.
In the cadet category, the victory went to Xosé Pérez Blanco from the Lamargha Beariz Triathlon, who won in this category as well as in the general; and for Antía Pazos García, from the Mar de Vigo Triathlon Club, who revalidated the victory achieved in the previous edition. The female junior category was deserted and the victory of the male category went to Yago Carballo, from the Mar de Vigo Triathlon Club.
In addition, two prizes were awarded to the best classified in the census in Baiona, which went to Sandra Santodomingo and David Giraldez, two of the most outstanding athletes in the fishing village, who have been imposing themselves in local events for years.
The Vertiathlon awards ceremony ended, as has become a tradition, with the delivery of the check with the money raised for the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club. A check valued at 6,300 euros that the director of the MAPFRE group, Luis Hernando de Larramendi, delivered to the vice-president of the Baiona club, Alejandro Retolaza.

Retolaza had words of recognition and admiration for the athletes who put all their efforts to complete the test while helping the club’s Adapted Sailing School. He also wanted to thank, on behalf of the entire Monte Real, the support of the large group of firms and companies that selflessly helped make this new edition of the Vertiathlon a reality. He also dedicated words of thanks to the residents of Baiona who each year, he said, turn to the solidarity event, making a great effort to allow the town to be closed for several hours.

Baiona hosts this Saturday the celebration of the fifth edition of its solidarity triathlon with sprint format in which 238 athletes from all over Galicia will participate

211 athletes will participate this Saturday in Baiona in a new edition of the Solidarity Vertiathlon, a triathlon with a sprint format that for five years has been raising funds for the Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club.
It is precisely the Baiona club that, hand in hand with the Baiona city council, the collaboration of the Galician Triathlon Federation and the sponsorship of Verti Seguros, promotes this solidarity test with the aim of being able to continue financing all the courses and activities that it organizes free of charge so that people with functional diversity can navigate and enjoy the sea under equal conditions.
In this fifth edition, the Solidarity Vertiathlon will maintain the same test design as on previous occasions. It will have the scheme of a sprint triathlon, with a 750-meter swimming test, a 20-kilometer bicycle test and a final test in which the athletes must complete a 5-kilometer run.
The three tests will take place in scenarios related to the sea or with views of the sea, this peculiarity being one of the characteristics that makes this triathlon so special.
The competition will begin at four in the afternoon on A Barbeira beach, inside the Parador Nacional de Baiona, from where the swimming test will start. Athletes must go around the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates to A Ribeira beach, where they will find the first section of the link to the second of the tests, the cyclist.
At the basketball court in the area of La Palma they will take their bicycles, prepared in advance, and will undertake a journey of almost 20 kilometers consisting of three laps between the two roundabouts that give access to Baiona, Baredo and Santa Marta.
The last of the Vertiathlon tests will be the foot race. 5 kilometers surrounding the walled enclosure of the Monterreal peninsula, also known as the Monte Boi peninsula, in a double loop, where the Parador Nacional is located.
Once the tour is over, the gardens of the Monte Real Yacht Club will be the meeting point for the athletes at the award ceremony for the winners. Trophies will be given to the first classified of the different classes that participate: absolute male and female, veterans, youth, cadets and two special prizes to the best triathletes registered in Baiona.
In the last edition of the Vertiathlon, the winners were Denis Incutti, from the Ribeira Swimming Club; and María Lois, from the Arcade Infohouse Santiago. In veterans, Pedro Pablo Bernardez and Sandra Santodomingo took the victory; and Xoel Rodríguez and Antía Pazos won in cadet.

The event, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar with the sponsorship of ABANCA, today completed the third and last day of its thirty-fourth edition. A record edition that managed to bring together more than 80 boats and nearly 500 sailors in the bay. The winners of the eleven categories in contention were awarded at the trophy ceremony that put an end to the dispute of the last tests in the water.
Yess Too comes from behind to take the victory in Martin Miller ORC 0-1
Exciting finale of the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy for Martin Miller ORC’s fleet 0-1. With about six knots of north-westerly wind, the Committee was able to complete a final windward-leeward format test that turned out to be definitive. Rui Ramada’s Yess Too, who was fifth overall yesterday, won today’s race with total authority, which allowed the local team to add another victory this season after the victory obtained at the Conde de Gondomar.

There have been no changes in the general of Aceites Abril ORC 2. Today, Sunday, the fleet also completed a final leg in which Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions was once again the best, claiming its fifth partial victory in the five races held. With these results, and having had a perfect weekend, the team from the Club Marítimo de Canido sealed today the final victory with a six-point advantage over the second-placed team, the Asturian Antílope-Lener led by José Luis Alcuso. The third position was occupied in this case by Francisco Edreira’s Cachete, from the La Penela Maritime Club.
Triumph at Gadis ORC 3 for the Raygrass III
Another category that was able to sail today was the Gadis ORC 3. Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III, which sails for the Club Marítimo Carrumeiro, finished fourth in this last race, but managed to secure victory in the 34th Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias with a three-point lead over Luis Suárez’s Maracana I from Vigo, who was second. Meanwhile, on the ORC 4-5 and Open race course, the Regatta Committee gave the start for a new coastal regatta, but the wind did not blow strongly enough and only the Open Extra division managed to finish the course.
Thus, the winner in the Volvo Autesa ORC 4-5 category is the local Albarellos of Fernando Rey, ahead of the two representatives of the Club Náutico Beluso: the Santiago Roma Rías Baixas and the Chispa Nejra of José Rey, second and third respectively.
In Engel & Völkers ORC Open, a category in which the inclusive boat Axa Seguros from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School participated, with the support of the insurer and the Department of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, the victory was won this year the Bombastic of the MRCYB of César Casqueiro ahead of the representative of the RCNV skippered by Antonio Gaona, the Piccola, and of the Lacazán of Mariano Benavente, who also sails under the banner of the Baion club.

Difficult day in the regatta field of the Infinitus Rent 6m fleet. The wind did not come to its appointment in the bay today and the Regatta Committee could not give the Warning signal for any of the two scheduled races, so yesterday’s results became final.
In the Classics division, victory therefore went to the Bribon 500 Movistar of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, skippered on this occasion by Pedro Campos in the absence of King Juan Carlos. New victory for Javier de la Gándara in the waters of Baiona. Okofen, who started the competition in third place overall, climbed to the top of the podium yesterday by sealing a perfect second day with three partial victories. Today, Sunday, the lack of wind prevented the scheduled tests from being held, so the team led by de la Gándara was proclaimed the winner of the thirty-fourth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy. Victory for the HELLO! Fashion at the prestigious ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup
There was also no testing today for the fleet of the HELLO! Ladies Cup, resulting in the HELLO! Fashion by Pilar Casares after leading the general classification from the first day of the regatta. From behind, the podium of the prestigious women’s competition was completed by HELLO! Serralleiras from the Portuguese crew led by Marta Ramada in second place – who defended the victory of the two previous editions – and the HELLO! Silleiro by Anna Sole Dolcet in the third drawer.
With this, there are now 23 editions in which the Monte Real Club de Yates and ¡HOLA! They reaffirm their commitment to giving visibility to women in a sport that, to this day, continues to be predominantly male.
The awards ceremony, final touch for the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy
At 6:00 p.m., the awards ceremony for the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy was held in the village of Monte Real, putting an end to a new edition of one of the most important cruising sailing events at a national level.
In addition to awarding the winners of the respective categories, during the trophy ceremony the club also presented the special Mary Woodward award for the best J80 of the season, which went to Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen; the Count of Barcelona Juan de Borbón award for the best ship with a Portuguese crew, which went to the Yess Too of the Portuguese Rui Ramada; and the Juan Sebastián Elcano space trophy to the winners of the ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup, the HELLO! Fashion by Pilar Casares. For its part, the inclusive ship AXA Seguros, in which the students of the Juan María de Nigrán Center sail, also received a special mention at the closing ceremony.

The MRCYB village hosted this afternoon, at 8:00 p.m., the delivery of the prestigious Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards, which this year has celebrated its twenty-seventh edition and has awarded the best teams and sailors of the 2018 season
The Monte Real Yacht Club delivered the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards tonight in Baiona. The gala, part of the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy, was attended by José María Fonseca Moretón, president of Terras Gauda; José Ramón Lete, General Secretary for Sport; Santos Héctor, provincial deputy; Carlos Gómez, mayor of Baiona; Pillar of Sas; Gabriel González Eiroa, commercial director of ABANCA; Ignacio Cuarteto, commander director of the ENM, and the president of the MRCYB, José Luis Álvarez.
The person in charge of opening the event was the president of Monte Real, who took advantage of his speech to congratulate each and every one of the award winners and thank Terras Gauda for their support, as well as all the sponsors who have made it possible for another year , the Prince of Asturias. After Álvarez, José María Fonseca succeeded him at the microphone to later give way to the awards ceremony.
The winners in this twenty-seventh edition of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards have been the Estrella Damm as the best ORC boat; Bribon Movistar with the prize for the best boat; Diego Botín and Iago López Marra, Olympic team of the year; Martín Wizner and Pedro Ameneiro, best youth team of 2018; the J70 Marnatura, best one-design of the year; Violeta del Reino, best sailor; Nauta 360 with the Mariano Aguado communication award and Galicia 93 Pescanova as the best sports project, in the year in which the twenty-fifth anniversary of its podium in the Tour of the World of Sailing is celebrated.
Galicia 93 Pescanova and Bribon Movistar were precisely the main protagonists of the awards ceremony. Nava Castro, director of Tourism for the Galician community, was in charge of collecting the Galicia 93 award in representation of the commitment that the Xunta de Galicia made in its day to promote and make a reality the podium of the boat that everyone knew as “pez flying”. For their part, the entire crew of the King Don Juan Carlos, who in the end could not attend to collect the award, went up on stage to collect the 6-meter Bribon Movistar award for best boat of the year.

Historic day at the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy. With the premiere of six new classes on this second day of competition, the event organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Escuela Naval Militar with the sponsorship of ABANCA broke its participation record today by exceeding 80 boats in the regatta field . In total, there are already eleven categories in contention and nearly 500 sailors who are competing this weekend for the victory of one of the most important regattas on the national scene.

The wind was once again unstable, shifty and of very changing intensities since the beginning of the day, and the truth is that it was not until after 1:00 p.m. when the fleet was able to get under way to complete the first of the three routes of windward-leeward format.
In the Martin Miller ORC 0-1 category, the second day of the Príncipe de Asturias has caused a drastic turnaround in the general classification. With two seconds and one seventh in these last three races, Maria-Casas do Telhhado today took the lead in the general classification ahead of Diego López’s Mirfak, who now occupies second place, and Jorge Pérez Canal’s Aceites Abril , which assaults the podium placing itself in the third position. Pairo 8 and Yess Too, who were first and second respectively yesterday, are fourth and fifth overall today.
For its part, in the general classification of Aceites Abril ORC 2, Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions extends its advantage today at the top of the table after scoring the three partial victories put at stake. Behind, five points behind, José Luis Alcuso’s Antilope-Lener also remains in second place, while Francisco Edreira’s Cachhete is the one who closes the provisional class podium on this occasion.
The Gadis ORC 3 fleet also competed in three new tests, a category in which the leader continues to be Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III with two third and one fifth added to the partial victory scored yesterday. The second position, in this case, is for Luis Suárez’s Maracana I with a first, second and seventh place in the last three races and Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend-La-Bise climbs from eighth to third position with some partials 2-5-1. Another of the victories of the day was for Luis Manuel García’s Unus, who is fourth.
Meanwhile, today, Saturday, another three ORC divisions opened with a 14.5-mile coastal route and start and finish located in front of the bay, in the Carallóns area. Volvo Autesa ORC 4-5 was the first to start in this field after 12:30 p.m. and the victory went to Fernando Rey’s Albarellos, who became the leader of the general classification. They are followed by Iñaki Carbajo’s Santiago Roma Rías Baixas and José Rey Veiga’s Chispa Nejra in second and third position respectively.
At Engels & Völkers ORC Open, the winner of the day and provisional leader is César Fernández’s Bombastic. Behind, Antonio Gaona’s Piccola is currently in second place in the table and third place is occupied by Mariano Benavente’s Lacazan.
Also in this class competed today the inclusive boat Axa Seguros, a team made up of sailors with functional diversity from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School with the support of the insurer and the Department of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia.
In the case of the SH Robotic Open Extra class, the fleet completed a 14.5-mile coastal course in which Manuel Blanco’s Salseiro C was the winner. Behind, Ignacio Sánchez’s Txole is in second place overall and Roberto Reboredo’s Jandrocho Team is third.
The three boats that make up the Storax Clásico fleet completed, for their part, a course of almost nine miles with victory in corrected time for Fabián Garrido’s Miña Miniña. The first to cross the finish line in real time was Xosé Avelino Ochoa’s Sara O, a result that places him in second place overall ahead of Javier Alonso’s Papaleisso, who is third on the provisional podium.
Another of the fleets that debuted today in the Bay of Baiona was the majestic 6-meter. The regatta field offered wind conditions between 12 and 15 knots of intensity that allowed the Committee to give the start for the first two regatta tests.

Great premiere in Baiona waters of the Prince of Asturias Trophy. The event, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Naval Military School with the sponsorship of ABANCA, started today with the dispute of the first tests for the classes Martin Miller ORC 0-1, Oils April ORC 2, Gadis ORC 3 , Solventis J80 and the prestigious HELLO! Ladies Cup. Pairo 8, Bosch Service Solutions, Raygrass III, Miudo and HELLO! Fashion are the first leaders of this thirty-fourth edition.
The day dawned calm, with fairly light wind conditions until finally, around 3:00 p.m. as planned, the Race Committee was able to give the warning signal for the three ORC divisions. It was not easy for the fleet, because during the 15-mile round trip between Baiona and Subrido (Cabo Home) the wind kept changing in terms of direction and intensity, although the north-northeast component between three and 12 knots in the different areas of the estuary.

An example of this was the case of the Yess Too in the Martin Miller ORC 0-1 class. Rui Ramada’s men dominated the first part of the route with authority until they found themselves in Cabo Home with a well of wind that again compressed the fleet until practically the finish line. Finally, the Yess Too was the first to finish the race and was second overall in corrected time behind the Pairo 8 of the owner José Luis Freire, who was the first leader of the day with Laureano Wizner at the helm. Maria-Casas do Telhado by Manuel María Cunha closes the podium in third place.
In Aceites Abril ORC 2, Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions is positioned at the head of the classification on this first day by completing the route in two hours and 56 minutes. Following in the general classification is José Luis Alcuso’s Asturian Antelope-Lener in second place and Milaneza, owned by Portuguese skipper Diogo Talone, who is third.
The third category to debut today at the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy was Gadis ORC 3, in which Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III was the winner ahead of Juan José Martínez’s La Burla Negra and Orion Javier Pérez, second and third respectively.

For its part, the Solventis J80 class started its competition program with the dispute of the first three tests in the regatta field. The wind did not make it easy for the Committee either, which had to move the field further out of the bay than expected in search of optimal conditions to start the competition.
At the top of the table, the top three finishers take advantage of the rest of the fleet and with only two points difference between the leader and the third. With partial 3-1-3, Diogo Costa’s Miudo is the first leader in the general standings ahead of Cristina González’s Pazo de Cea, which occupies second position with 4-2-2 results, and Javier’s Okofen de la Gándara, who made his debut today in third position after adding a fourth and two second places.

In the same regatta field as the J80 were the Figaros of the HELLO! Ladies Cup. With two first and one second in the three contested races, the HELLO! Fashion by Pilar Casares closes the day as the leader of the women’s competition with a total of four points. Behind, just two points, is followed by HELLO! Serralleiras of the Portuguese Marta Ramada in the second position with a third, a first and a second and the HELLO! of Laura Gil, who currently occupies third place overall with a second, a third and a fourth in her locker.
Inauguration of the village and seafood dinner to close the first day of regattas
Once the tests were finished, the activity continued in the village of the Monte Real Club de Yates. Sailors, skippers and shipowners were able to enjoy the great social and sporting atmosphere of the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy during the usual seafood dinner. Ambient music and a gin and tonic tasting by Martin Miller and Royal Bliss put the finishing touch to the first day of one of the most important events on the national cruise calendar.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the action returns to the Monte Real Club de Yates starting at 12:00. After a first day in which the longest boats and two of the one-designs made their debut, the second assault will feature each and every one of the participating categories competing in the four established regatta fields.

This year, the Monte Real Club de Yates joins the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Magellan and Elcano’s circumnavigation of the world with the delivery of a special award within the framework of the historic Prince of Asturias Trophy, which will be held starting tomorrow in Baiona.
The prize will be received by the crew that wins the pioneering HELLO! Ladies Cup, one of the most historic exclusively female nautical competitions in Spain, which in 2019 celebrates its twenty-third edition.
The Juan Sebastián Elcano Trophy, named in honor of the Spanish navigator who was the protagonist of one of the feats that changed the history of the world, is a bust of the Basque sailor made in lost-wax cast bronze by Antonio Miranda.
This initiative is part of a series of actions framed in the Commemoration of the V Centenary of the expedition of the first circumnavigation of Fernando de Magallanes and Juan Sebastián de Elcano that will be held during the next four years.
The first “around the entire roundness of the world” , in the words of Elcano himself, is considered one of the great feats in the history of humanity since, in addition to verifying that the earth was spherical and not just round, it represented great advances for the cartography, commerce or communications. The journey lasted from 1519 to 1522.
The HELLO! Ladies Cup is consolidated as a feminist bet
In a year in which several Spanish competitions have opted for women by creating sections for exclusively female participation, the ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup is consolidated as one of the trophies with more tradition and history in Spain. In this 2019 it turns 23 years old with the same philosophy with which it was created, that of giving visibility to women in a sport that, to this day, is still mostly male.
In this new edition, Spanish and Portuguese sailors will participate, for the most part, but on board the Figaros del Monte Real in which the participants will compete, Swiss, Italian and Slovenian accents will also be heard. And it is that the competition has been acquiring, over the years, international touches.
This year the title will be disputed by a team from the Club Náutic Sant Carles de la Rápita skippered by Anna Dolcet; another from the Real Club Náutico de Puerto Pollença, led by Pilar Casares; and two more from the Madrilenian Sailing Federation, with Laura Gil and Inés Zurita at the helm. We will also see the current champion, Marta Ramada, who will try to repeat the title for the third consecutive year; and a crew from the Naval Military School led by Lara Lagoa.
The countdown begins for the Prince of Asturias Trophy
The Monte Real Club de Yates lived with hustle and bustle this day prior to the start of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, in which the participating crews continued to arrive at their pontoons. In the Aceites Abril ORC 2 class, which will also go out to compete tomorrow Friday from three in the afternoon, we will see Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, Joao Tourigo’s Farofino, or Francisco Edreira’s Cachete. And in the Gadis ORC 3 class, Luis García Trigo’s Unus, Vicente Cid’s Deep Blue 2.0, Jacobo Solorzano’s Bunda and Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III are some of the favorites.
Tomorrow, Friday, in addition to ORCs 1, 2 and 3 and the girls from the HELLO! Ladies Cup, also inaugurate the Solventis J80 class trophy, in which practically the entire Galician fleet will meet, including the recently winner of the regional champion title, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen.
New addition to the 6M fleet
The Prince of Asturias Trophy will mark the debut in competition in Spain of the Marina Combarro, formerly known as Cream, the latest boat to join the Spanish 6-meter fleet. The boat, armed and skippered by Jaime Alonso from Vigo, dates from 1979. It was designed by veteran Swedish naval architect Pelle Petterson, built in Sweden, and managed to win the 1979 World Championship and the 1980 European Championship.
It has recently been completely renovated and after participating in the European La Trinité, in France, this weekend it will be released in Galician waters.
The Marina Combarro will compete, among others, with the Bribón 500 Movistar, recent world champion in Finland in the 6 meter class, in which the Galician Pedro Campos will be on board. Another prominent Galician sailor, Miguel Lago, will take command of the Alibabá II; and Jaime Rodríguez-Toubes from Ferrol will do the same with the Armada 500. In the absence of closing the registration period, they have also confirmed their participation in the Baiona competition: Caprice by Íñigo Echenique, Maybe XIV by Eugenio Galdón; and Patrick Monteiro’s Seljm.

During the three days that the competition will last, the Galician fishing village will be the epicenter of several regattas in which, pending the registration deadline, some 80 boats are expected to participate, which will bring together in the Rías Baixas more of 500 sailors from all over the peninsula.
Among them we will see King Juan Carlos who, recovered from his recent heart operation, has signed up to compete in the 6-meter class aboard the Bribón 500 with his usual crew, in which he will once again have Galician Pedro Campos as his right-hand man .
The 6 meters, grouped into the Infititus Rent and 6m Formula classes, will make up two of the 12 categories that this new edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy will feature, one of the most numerous to date in terms of classes, with a wide range of boats.
There will be a Martin Miller ORC 0-1 class, April Oils ORC 2, Gadis ORC 3, Volvo Autesa ORC 4, SH Robotic ORC 5, Engels & Volkers ORC Open and ORC Open Extra. In the classic STORAX class, some of the spectacular sailboats of Agabace, the Galician Association of classic and vintage boats, will once again sail; and along with the 6 meters, two other monotypes will also participate: the Solventis J80 class and the Figaro Beneteau.
We will see the latter in the HELLO! Ladies Cup, the women’s competition included in the framework of the trophy in which every September, for 22 years, 36 sailors from different parts of Spain and Portugal have measured their strength. 36 women divided into 6 crews aboard 6 identical boats that star in one of the most attractive sections of the Príncipe de Asturias.
A Prince of Asturias Trophy that, in addition to being feminist, is committed to inclusion and youth. A boat will participate in the Open class, the AXA Seguros, in which, thanks to the support of the insurer and the Ministry of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, students with functional diversity from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School will sail. And this year also, as a novelty, the 6 meter class offers the possibility for crews to take on board, as a guest, a child under 15 years of age or less, in a clear commitment to the future of sailing for the new generations.
With these characteristics, the Prince of Asturias Trophy will raise the curtain next Friday in Baiona to stage three sports and festive days with a complete program that will alternate regattas with breakfasts, dinners, parties and fireworks.
On Friday, on the opening day, the large boats grouped into classes ORC 0, 1, 2 and 3 will go out on the water; the J80 and the girls of the HELLO! Ladies Cup. It will be from three in the afternoon. In addition to King Juan Carlos’ Bribón Movistar, as the best ship; The prestigious awards will be given to the Estrella Damm for the best ORC boat; the Cantabrian-Galician tandem formed by Diego Botín and Iago López Marra for the best Olympic team of the year; Martín Wizner and Pedro Ameneiro to the best youth team of the year; the Marnatura for the best monotype; Violeta del Reino for the best sailor and Nauta 360 the Mariano Aguado Communication Award. In addition, a special prize for the best sports project will be awarded to the Galicia 93 Pescanova, in the year that marks the 25th anniversary of its podium finish in the Sailing Tour of the World.
After the gala of the National Sailing Awards, the subsequent dinner, fireworks and party; the crews will prepare for the last day, which will be held on Sunday from twelve noon. They will be the definitive tests to design the winners’ podiums and define some prizes that will be delivered that same day in the afternoon, starting at six o’clock at the Monte Real Club de Yates.
