The Monte Real Club de Yates calendar for 2017 is an extensive sports program that includes 11 nautical competitions at the highest level, among which are historic regattas such as the Conde de Gondomar Trophy and the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, which this year celebrate their forty-second and thirty-second editions respectively.
The celebration of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards and the third Solidarity Vertiathlon are other events marked on the agenda of the club from Baiona, which opens this month of January with the Winter League . It is a championship intended exclusively for the J80 class, booming throughout Spain, which will be held in the Bay of Baiona over six days, on January 14 and 28, February 11 and 25, and February 11 and 25. of March.
In April two of the most traditional races arrive at Monte Real, the Winter Regatta and the Spring Regatta – Repsol Trophy. Both include novelties with respect to previous editions. The Winter Regatta is reduced in this 2017 to a single day, on April 22, in which the participating sailboats must complete a coastal route between Vigo and Baiona.
The Repsol Trophy – Spring Regatta , in which the crews tune up their boats to face the strong part of the regatta season, will once again be held to coincide with the May 1 long weekend. There will be three reggae days from April 29, with different tests depending on the type of boat. There will be windward-leeward routes for the J70, J80 and Figaros fleets; and coastal for the rest of sailboats. The novelty in this 2017 is that it will be held exclusively in the Ría de Vigo, with departure and arrival in the bay of Baiona.
In May the event is for the youngest, with the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy . Faithful to its commitment to grassroots sports, the Monte Real Club de Yates organizes once again, with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales, this championship aimed at those who are just starting out in the world of sailing. It will be held on May 20 and 21 and the participation of numerous sailors from the most important yacht clubs in Galicia and the north of Portugal is expected.
On Saturday, June 10, the Social Cruise Regatta will take place, a new proposal from Monte Real for this 2017, aimed at the ORC fleet, about which the club will announce new details very soon.
The third appointment of the Monte Real Club de Yates for the month of June is an adapted sailing regatta, the AXA Trophy – Iberian Championship Class 2.4mR . There will be three days of competition, on June 16, 17 and 18, in which sailors from different parts of Spain and Portugal, with and without disabilities, will compete under equal conditions in the bay of Baiona. This is the fifth consecutive year in which the Baionese club deals with one of the key events of the peninsular sailing scene.
In July, Monte Real opens the month with the celebration of the Baitra-MRCYB Social League Final , on days 1 and 2. The league is an internal competition that is held throughout the year by the students of the club’s Sailing School, and which ends with a weekend of regattas in the bay and the subsequent awards ceremony. to the winners.
Also in July, on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th, coinciding with the Apóstol bridge, one of the mythical competitions of the Baionese club arrives, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy , which in 2017 celebrates its forty-second edition. It will be the Spanish Height Championship and will include, as usual, the Baiona-Fisterra-Baiona route, over 100 miles long, going around the mythical Carrumeiro Chico lighthouse.
Along with the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, the other great event on the Monte Real Yacht Club’s racing calendar is, without a doubt, the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy . Considered one of the most important nautical competitions in Spain, its previous edition featured the participation of King Emeritus Don Juan Carlos, who competed in the 6m class. In this 2017, the regatta turns thirty-two years old and will once again include, on September 1, 2 and 3, sporting events of the highest level and numerous leisure activities for the participants.
Within the framework of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, one more year, the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will be presented, awards that recognize the work of people and institutions in favor of the world of sailing, as well as their human values and sports.
The Solidarity Vertiathlon reaches its third edition in 2017 and will be held on September 16 under the organization of Monte Real and the Baiona City Council, with the sponsorship of Verti Seguros and the collaboration of the Galician Triathlon Federation. It will once again raise funds for the MRCYB Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities, the only one in northern Spain that operates throughout the year, and with which the club provides services to various associations of people with physical, psychosocial, and cognitive disabilities. and sensory.
