Baiona, March 13, 2016.- The Portuguese yacht Miudo won this Sunday the J80 Class Winter League, held since last January in Baiona under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club.
Skippered by Francisca Barros, Joao Cuinha, Rita Rocha, Afonso Leite and Nuno Bajanca, they demonstrated their good work this morning in the bay by winning the three races held. They did so convincingly, favored by their great ability to sail very fast in low wind conditions. Because if there was something this Sunday in Baiona, it was a very light wind, barely five knots.
Despite the difficult conditions, the regatta committee was able to start three tests planned in the competition program. Three windward-leeward layouts were made, which the boats covered in approximately half an hour.
The Miudo made full, prevailed in all three, and secured the victory of the championship. With the second test, a new discard also came into play, which allowed them to move even further away from Virazón, who finally came second.
After a great competition, in which it remained the leader for several days, the boat skippered by Miguel Lago could not win, but it did achieve a creditable second position.
The podium of the J80 Class Winter League is closed by Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, who signed two second places in the regattas held today, and won the championship bronze.
Completing the classification are the Alumisel by Willy Caamaño, the Ferralemes by Enrique Porto, the Pazo de Cea by Rita Hernández, the Namasté by Luis de Mira and the Escuela Náutico Cormorán by Iván Pérez Gándaras.
Once the tests of the fifth and last day of the J80 Class Winter League were finished, the Baionese club hosted the awards ceremony for the winners and a subsequent meal attended by the participants.
The next appointment in the regatta calendar of the Monte Real Club de Yates arrives in April with the AXA Trophy – Winter Cruise Regatta, which will be held on two consecutive Saturdays, on the 9th and 16th. It will include, as has been the tradition, a coastal regatta between Vigo and Baiona, on the first day, and several windward-leeward races on the second. In the next few days the registration period will open.
