During the summer months, the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne organizes cruise courses for all those who want to learn to sail, improve their technique or simply spend a different kind of holiday, enjoying the sea with friends.

The courses are weekly, from Monday to Friday , with three and a half hours of navigation each day, in the morning (10:00 – 13:30) or in the afternoon (16:00 – 19:30) . There is also the possibility of taking an intensive course over a weekend .

Although the classes are essentially practical, to learn how to maneuver and make decisions at sea, they also include theoretical knowledge to become familiar with nautical nomenclature, the parts of the boat and how it works, and the basic concepts of sailing. Always with a coach on board, you start sailing in the calm waters of the Bay of Baiona and end up heading out to the open sea.

The courses are suitable for people of any age and no special material is required, although it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, a jacket that protects from the cold and wind, sunglasses and sunscreen. Boarding takes place at the Monte Real Club de Yates facilities, located within the walled enclosure of the Parador de Baiona.

The price of the courses (weekly in the morning, weekly in the afternoon or intensive at the weekend) is 125 euros , with a special discount for club members. The Monte Real Yacht Club Sailing School organizes courses throughout the year for all types of audiences. From the age of 7 , anyone who wants to, whether or not they are a member of the club, can learn to sail or improve their technique on different types of boats, with qualified trainers and facilities and materials adapted to the needs of the students. .

The Monte Real has a classroom to teach theoretical classes, changing rooms, and a warehouse to store all the material and equipment provided to the participants.

The School operates at full capacity throughout the year. In summer, in the months of July and August , classes for beginners and advanced are given, during the weekend (Saturday and Sunday mornings, from ten to two) and during the week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from four at eight in the evening).

Starting in September , the course times change to the weekend to adapt to school hours and so that students can combine the activity in the club with their classes at school or institute.

Hundreds of boys and girls from the municipalities of the area have already passed through the Monte Real facilities to participate in one of the Sailing School courses, in which, in addition to receiving nautical training, they can share experiences with other classmates while enjoying of good times at sea.

The Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne hosted this Sunday the closing acts of the 2013-2014 Season of the Sailing School, with various activities at sea and on land.

The students of the Optimist class participated in the last Social League regatta, an internal competition that took place in the club throughout the season. The winners were Anxo Carril, Iago González and Lucía Arana for the Green Group, and Elena Molares, Rosalía Martínez and Pedro Salgado for the Blue Group.

Together with them, the rest of the young sailors from the school also went out to sail, those of initiation and those of the Cadet and 420 classes. In total, more than 20 boats and about 50 future promises of the sailing world, between 7 and 15 years old, showed what they are capable of in the bay of Baiona.

In the afternoon, all the children received their awards and diplomas at the club’s facilities, in an act in which family and friends also participated.

The Spanish 2.4mR Class Champion Rafa Andarias won the Vitaldent Adapted Sailing Championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona and held this weekend in Baiona.

The young sailor, 24 years old, managed to win a competition that was very close from the start. Of the six contested races, all very close, Andarias achieved two first places.

Today’s was a perfect day for sailing, with ideal sea and wind conditions. An average of 14 knots facilitated the progress of the fleet, which completed the routes quite grouped. Proof of this is that in the last of the races all the sailboats reached the finish line in just 30 seconds.

Despite this equality between the sailors, Andarias managed to prevail and ratify the provisional victory achieved on Saturday, on the first day of competition. The second and third position of the general had a marked Andalusian accent, that of Arturo Montes and Borja Melgarejo, both from the Real Club Marítimo de Punta Umbría (Huelva). The rental point is located at the main access to the club, and will remain open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Sunday, May 11, 2014.- Pablo Carneiro and Lucía Arana dominated the second day of the Baitra Cadet Class Trophy. They prevailed in the three tests carried out today and managed to win the gold of the competition.

The boys, aged 15 and 11, and members of the Monte Real Club de Yates, had already won the podium on the first day, by winning two of the three races held yesterday.

Once the tests of both days have finished, which can be seen from the Paseo del Monte Boi, the doca and the Parador de Baiona, the awards ceremony will be held. It will be on Sunday the 11th at the Monte Real headquarters, starting at five in the afternoon.

The Baitra Class Cadet Trophy is part of the promotion plan for children’s sailing that the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne has underway through its Sailing School. The competition is sponsored by Baitra Accesorios Navales and the collaboration of Filtros Navales Jesús Betanzos.
