In Baiona, everything is ready for the final of the Spanish Championship of Cruisers in Maritime Zones – Trophy of Colombian Peoples of Spain, which will be held this weekend at the Monte Real Club de Yates.

The Baionese club is hosting a competition organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation to promote cruising sailing in Spain. It is a high-level sporting event in which some of the best skippers and sailors on the national cruiser class circuit will be present.

Among the participants there are two boats with Galician crews, the Aceites Abril, owned by Luis Pérez Canal, and the Movistar, owned by Pedro Campos.

An important job for the promotion of tourism and sports

In the presentation of the final of the championship, this morning at the Baiona City Council, the mayor of the municipality, Jesús Vázquez Almuíña, highlighted the important work carried out by the Monte Real Yacht Club for the tourist and sports promotion of Baiona. An institution to which, he recalled, the municipal corporation awarded the town’s gold medal in 1996, and named its president, Mr. Rafael Olmedo Limeses, the favorite son.

The president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, José Ángel Rodríguez, spared no words of praise for the club from Baiona, highlighting the quality of its facilities and the beauty of the enclave in which it is located.

The Provincial Sports Delegate of the Xunta de Galicia, Daniel Benavides, also attended the press conference to present the championship, who pointed out the importance of Monte Real for the promotion of sports in the region.

The vice-commodore of Monte Real, Alejandro Retolaza, who also participated in the event, was very grateful for the recognition of the different authorities, both national, regional and local. He assured that it is along these lines that the club will continue to work in the coming years.

Five champion crews and one guest

The Final of the Spanish Championship of Cruisers of Maritime Zones – Colombino Peoples Trophy is a title to which the five boats that were winners in the zone championships held, throughout this 2014, in different parts of Spain aspire.

Salem, by Carlos Marton, will be thrown into the sea; Icue IV, by Carlos Sáez; the Canarias Explosivo, by Lucio Pérez, and two Galician ships, the Aceites Abril, by Luis Pérez Canal, and the Movistar, by Pedro Campos.

These five crews will be joined by a sixth chosen by the host club. It will be formed by the team of the Olympic medalist Sandra Azón, recent winner of the Ladies Cup Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

A weekend of regattas

The tests of the Final of the Spanish Championship of Cruisers of Maritime Zones – Colombino Peoples Trophy will take place on the 15th and 16th in the waters of the Bay of Baiona.

The participating teams will compete on equal terms. They will go out to sea in identical boats, six First Class Fígaro loaned by the club from Baiona for the occasion.

The Regatta Committee forecasts are to hold a total of seven races: four on Saturday and three on Sunday. The tasks will be technical, with windward-leeward tests in which it will be easier to measure the skill of the crews.

Once the competition is over, the awards ceremony will be held. It will be on Sunday at three in the afternoon at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates.

The Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona will host the Trofeo Pueblos Colombinos de España this weekend, from which the winner of the Spanish Championship of Cruises by maritime zones will emerge.

It is a title to which the five boats that were winners in the zone championships held, throughout this 2014, in different parts of Spain aspire.

In the Cantabrian Zone, Salem, by Carlos Marton, rose to the podium; in the Andaluza he won the Icue IV, by Carlos Sáez; and the Canarias Explosivo, by Lucio Pérez, prevailed in the Canary Zone. In the Atlantic and Mediterranean areas, two Galician boats won the victory, the Aceites Abril, owned by Luis Pérez Canal, and the Movistar, owned by Pedro Campos.

The cadets of the Monte Real Yacht Club shone this weekend at the International Optimist Meeting, part of the Ciudad de Vigo Atlantic Week. They achieved an absolute full on the podium of the category.

The team formed by Fereyot Simón and María Carneiro won the victory, taking the gold trophy. The silver went to José Baamonde and Pablo Antonio Ledo; and Vera Bernárdez and Nerea Rodríguez achieved the third position.

Mi Moneda, owned by Guillermo Caamaño, remains the leader of the general classification in the J80 Autumn Trophy of the Monte Real Club de Yates after achieving second and third place in the two races held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona.

It was a sunny day with little and unstable wind. The five knots on average that blew throughout the afternoon allowed only two sleeves of the three initially planned. The regatta committee started the third race, but was finally forced to suspend it due to lack of wind.

In the first of the tests, Luna Nueva, owned by Juan Luis Tuero, was the winner, leaving second place for Marías, skippered by Manuel Cunha, who joined the trophy this Saturday. The third position went to Mi Moneda, by Guillermo Caamaño.

In the second round, Virazón won the victory, with Gerardo Alonso at the helm. Behind him crossed the finish line Mi Moneda, by Guillermo Caamaño, and Namasté, by Jaime García. In this second test, a protest from the Virazón left the Luna Nueva disqualified, for not respecting a port starboard side.

Thus, with five races disputed so far, the general is still led by Mi Moneda, followed by Virazón and Luna Nueva. The Namasté, the Nortada and the Marías complete the classification.

The J80 Autumn Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club continues on November 22 with the third and last day of regattas.

Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda leads the J80 Autumn Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club after winning the first day of tests, held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona.

With a swell of 2 meters and a wind of 18 knots on average and peaks of 24, 3 windward/leeward tasks were disputed. The Mi Moneda, owned by Guillermo Caamaño, and the Virazón, owned by Miguel Lago, led the competition at all times, taking first place in the different tests.

Finally, Mi Moneda won the victory after winning the first and third heats, and finishing second in the second. The Virazón, which also had a great regatta, won the second race and came second in the rest.

In third position, after today’s session, is Luna Nueva, by Juan Luis Tuero. Namasté, by Luis de Mira, and Nortada, by Iago Carballo, complete the classification.

With the arrival of autumn, the Monte Real Yacht Club summons the J80 fleet from Galicia to participate in its Autumn Trophy . It is a regatta framed in the J80 League of the Baiona club, a competition that will continue during the winter and spring of 2015, and that will include three different tests.

This first phase of autumn will be held on October 18, November 1 and 22, in the waters of the Bay of Baiona . The crews that register will compete in a maximum of 9 tasks between the 3 days of competition, establishing a maximum of 3 tests for each day.

As a way to make the class known to more sailors, the inclusion of a fifth crew member as an observer will be allowed, who must stand behind the skipper and cannot participate in the maneuvers.

All races will start at three in the afternoon and will involve runs between windward-leeward buoys . The classification will be done in real time and the winner of the J80 Autumn Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club will come out of the final results.

The Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne today resumed the activity of its Adapted Sailing School , through which it organizes outings to the sea for people with physical, mental, sensory or intellectual disabilities.

Those in charge of inaugurating this new stage, which will last until the end of the year, were 18 boys and girls from the Juan María de Nigrán Center , who this Wednesday went sailing through the bay of Baiona accompanied by the club’s trainers and their own instructors.

In the coming weeks, other groups such as Vontade (Association of the Disabled from Baixo Miño) or Encaixamos (Association of Persons with Disabilities from the Val Miñor region) will also join the initiative.

All of them find, in the activity organized by Monte Real, a great resource so that its users can get closer to the sea to enjoy a sport that brings them countless benefits , both physical and social. At the same time that they achieve greater mobility, balance and control of their body, they also enhance their social skills.

The Monte Real Club de Yates Adapted Sailing School was born in 2012 with the aim of bringing the world of sailing closer to people with some type of disability. Since then it has been growing thanks to the support of companies and institutions such as Fundación Repsol, Iberdrola or Abanca.

In this 2014 the club was awarded a distinction from the ADEAC for the elimination of architectural barriers and its work with disabled people. The goal for 2015 is to improve and expand the range of services with new investments in equipment and training programs.

The Cruise Sailing Courses of the Monte Real Yacht Club are aimed at all those people (whether or not they are members of the club) who want to learn to sail, improve their technique or simply enjoy a few hours at sea with friends.

They include 4 outings per month , each lasting 3 and a half hours , in the morning or in the afternoon . The students go aboard one of the club’s Figaros with a skipper who will teach them all the keys to navigation.

To take the course there are no age limits, but there must be a minimum of 4 students . The price of the four outings is 58 euros , with a special discount for club members.

With the start of a new school season, the dinghy sailing courses at the Monte Real Club de Yates Sailing School are starting up again. These are courses for boys and girls who want to learn to navigate or improve their technique by sailing around the bay of Baiona. To register it is not necessary to be a member of the club . The only requirement is to be over 7 years old and know how to swim .

There are weekly courses , with classes one day a week, in the afternoon, from 16:00 to 18:30. The price of this option is 20 euros per month. There is also the possibility of attending classes on Sunday mornings, from 10:00 to 14:00. In this case, the price is 30 euros per month. A third option is to attend classes on Saturdays and Sundays , in the morning, from 10:00 to 14:00, for a price of 50 euros per month.

This weekend was the first time that the J80 fleets from the north and south of Galicia competed together

Miguel Fernández’s Biba, from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, won the Galician J80 Championship, organized by the Galician Sailing Federation and held in the waters of the Vigo estuary. The second classified was the Mi Moneda, by Ero Pons, who wore a pendant from the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayonne.

The Galician J80 Championship was held this year in Baiona after the appearance, in recent months, of an important fleet of this type of boats in the southern area of Galicia, which increased the number of J80 that already existed in the northern clubs , especially in A Coruña. It was the first great meeting of both fleets in competition.

At the awards ceremony, held this Sunday at the Monte Real Yacht Club, the crew of the Biba received the award from the vice-president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda. The General Secretary for Sports, José Ramón Lete, was in charge of handing over the trophy to Ero Pons, patron of Mi Moneda.

The Fifty of the Portuguese Rui Ramada and grímpola of the Monte Real Club de Yates took victory in the XXIX Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias in the category of large boats. It also won the prize of the Second Atlantic Cruise Circuit, an award that the crew received from the hands of the vice president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda.

The last round of the competition, held this Sunday, was decisive in designing the podiums for a good part of the classes. The lack of wind was once again the protagonist of the day, forcing the starting honk to be delayed and some of the routes to be cut.

In the ORC 1 class, Rui Ramada’s Fifty won, with a pendant from the Monte Real Club de Yates. The second and third place went to the Aceites Abril, owned by Luis Pérez Canal, which competed for the RCN Vigo, and the Xekmatt owned by José Carlos Prista, owned by the Lisbon Naval Association.

The Movistar of Pedro Campos, skippered on this occasion by Pablo Iglesias, clearly won in the ORC 2 class, leaving the silver to Solventis, of Malalo Bermúdez (MRCYB), and the bronze to Cachete, of Fran Edreira (CN Sada ).

The ORC 3 podium was divided between La Rabuda Uno, owned by Fernando González (RCN Portosín), José Naya’s GDiez (CN Ferrol), and Nuno Ribes’ Plan B (CV Atlántico), who came in first, second and third position respectively.

In the J80 competition in real time, the Real Club Naútico de Coruña was the clear winner. Their boats, which dominated practically all the tests of the three days, finally took two of the places of honor. Miguel Fernández’s Biba became champion and Pablo Martínez’s Marina Coruña came third. Second place went to Mi Moneda by Ero Pons, with a pendant from the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayonne.

In the Ladies Cup, Serralleiras won, with Sandra Azón from the Catalan Federation at the helm. Second place went to Tutatis, skippered by María Campos, from the Galician Federation.

In the Special ORC class, Vicente Cid’s Deep Blue (RCN Vigo) prevailed. Second place went to Javier Rey’s Q Talento (MRCYB), and third place to Pablo Conde’s Enxuto (CY Acapulco).

And in the classics category, which could not contest any event today due to lack of wind, gold went to Belisa de José Manuel Cores (AGABACE) and silver to Jonathan de Jos Van Veen (Real Muiden NL).

Once again this year, the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne hosted the awards ceremony Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards 2013 , awards created 22 years ago with the aim of recognizing the work of different people and institutions in favor of the world of sailing, as well as its human and sporting values.

The prizes were awarded at the club’s facilities in a gala sponsored by Terras Gauda , and part of the celebration of the XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy.

The Solventis , owned by the shipowners Alberto and Pablo Moro, and the Movistar , owned by Pedro Campos, received the prize for the best boats, for achieving victory in practically all the regattas in which they participated in their classes in 2013, the ORC 0-1 and the ORC 2-3 respectively.

The MAPFRE Challenge was awarded as the best project of 2013 after breaking a new record in the Atlantic on the Discovery Route of America. The crew traveled the more than 5,000 miles that separate Palos de la Frontera and San Salvador (Bahamas) in 11 days 7 hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds.

The production company A Contracorriente Films received the Mariano Aguado Communication Award for having collaborated in disseminating and bringing the world of sailing closer to the general public with its film “ En Solitario ”.

And the Catalan sailor and sailor Alex Pella was recognized as the best oceanic sailor of 2013, the year in which he won first place in the Tour of Europe regatta “ Route des Princes ”, and second place in the Transoceanic regatta “ Transat Jacques Vabre ”.

An Honorary Award was also given to Mary and Joe Woodward, Monte Real delegates for Ireland and the United Kingdom, for their contribution to the tourist sponsorship of the Rías Baixas in northern Europe.

The winners of this new edition of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards received as a trophy a reproduction of the signal mast of the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne, which since December 2013 bears the name of its president, Rafael Olmedo Limeses.

Exciting second day of the XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy. With the exception of Movistar del RCN de Sanxenxo, who once again repeated the podium in the ORC 2 class, the movements in the rest of the categories will add excitement to the last day of the competition.

Today was marked by changes in the weather, which again forced the start of some tests to be delayed. The day dawned cloudy, rainy and lack of wind, but little by little the favorable conditions for navigation were reached.

The Fifty of the Portuguese Rui Ramada and grímpola del Monte Real managed to lead the general classification of the ORC 1 after winning the two tests held this Saturday for those in his category. Aceites Abril, from RCN Vigo, which was leading after the first day, fell to second place, leaving José Carlos Prista’s Xekmatt, from the Lisbon Naval Association, in third place.

In the ORC 2 class there were no surprises and the Movistar, which dominated the first day of testing, once again prevailed, marking even more differences with the rest of the boats. The Sanxenxo RCN boat, skippered by Pablo Iglesias, is leading its class, followed by the Cachete, the Solventis, the Bosch Service Solutions, all tied on points.

La Rabuda Uno, from the RCN de Portosín, with Fernándo González at the helm, took first place in the ORC 3 competition. In second and third place overall are GDiez owned by José M. Naya, from CNR Ferrol, and Plane B owned by Nuno Rives from CV Atlántico.

In the J80s class, boats from A Coruña continue to dominate. Pablo Martínez’s Marina Coruña and Miguel Fernández’s Biba are in first and second place overall. A boat from Monte Real, the Mi Moneda, skippered by Ero Pons, managed to sneak into the provisional podium after today’s tests.

In the Ladies Cup, Amparo Mollá and her crew, aboard the Figaro Uno, and representing the Madrid Federation, lead the classification, followed by María Campos’ Figaro 6 (Galician Federation) and Sandra Azón’s Figaro 2 (Catalan Federation). .

First day of competition for Classics and Specials

Today was the second day of competition for the ORCs, J80s and Ladies Cup sailors, but the first for the Classics and Specials. Coastal routes of 11 and 18 miles respectively were disputed through the anchorage of the Cíes Islands, Cabo Home and the Islet of Viños.

In the Classics category, Belisa de AGABACE, skippered by José Manuel Cores, won. Provisional silver and bronze go to Real Muiden NL’s Jonathan, and CR Armada’s Arosa.

The victory of the Specials went to Q Talento Consultores, with a banner from Monte Real Club de Yates, which left Enxuto from CY Acapulco and Deep Blue from RCN Vigo in second and third place.

The XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy ends tomorrow, Saturday, starting at noon, with the last tests of the competition. At five in the afternoon the awards ceremony will be held at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayonne.

The twenty-ninth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which is being held these days in Baiona, under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar de Marín, got off to a strong start.

The sailors went out on the water with the intention of giving everything and not even the light and shifting wind, which did not exceed 8 knots, was able to detract from a first day that was experienced with great intensity.

The tests began according to the planned schedule and were carried out without major incidents. It was only necessary to shorten the route of the ORCs at a time when the intensity of the wind began to drop.

In the ORC Class 1 the victory went to Aceites Abril, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, skippered by Luis Pérez Canal. In second and third position were Rui Ramada’s Fifty and a grímpola from MRCYB, and Porto de Aveiro from Club Náutico Bocadabarra, with Delmar Conde at the helm.

The Movistar of the RCN of Sanxenxo, skippered by Pablo Iglesias, firmly prevailed in the ORC 2 Class. He managed to get two minutes out of the second classified, the Solventis of the MRCYB; and four to Bosch Service Solutions of the Canido CM.

In the ORC 3 competition, the podium on this first day was divided between boats from Portosín, Ferrol and Vilagarcía. First place went to La Rabuda Uno, by Fernando González; the second for the GDiez, by José M. Naya; and the third for the Andarivel, by Emilio Patiño.

The J80s that came down to Baiona from A Coruña demonstrated their power among their class, completing a full podium finish. Luis Tourón’s Marina Coruña came first, Manuel Rego’s Biba second and Carlos López’s Miúdo third.

In the Ladies Cup the victory went to the Figaro 2, skippered by the Olympic medalist Sandra Azón, from the Catalan Federation. Amparo Mollá and her girls took second place aboard the Figaro 1, and the third position went to the Figaro 6 of María Campos.

The XXIX Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias continues tomorrow, Saturday, with new tests for the ORCs, J80s and Ladies Cup starting at 11:55. Tomorrow the Classics and Specials will also go out to sea, which will compete from 12:25.

Catalan sailor Alex Pella will sail from Santander to Baiona to collect his award for Best Oceanic Sailor of 2013 at the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards gala.

Pella will arrive at the Monte Real Club de Yates aboard the Tales II, with which she will compete next November in the Route du Rhum 2014, a solo journey of more than 3,000 miles.

The boat, a CLASS 40 owned by Gonzalo Botín from Santander, was designed and built by some of the best naval engineers in Spain, and served Pella to achieve, during the past season (the first on board that boat), two seconds positions in the mythical Fasnet Race and in the Transat Jacques Vabre.

The arrival of the Catalan sailor tomorrow afternoon at the Baiona club will coincide with the first tests of the XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy, in which the ORCs, the J80s and Ladies will compete several windward/leeward. The appointment, starting at 15:55 in the waters of the Vigo estuary.

Everything is ready in Baiona for the celebration of a new edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, one of the most prestigious regattas on the Spanish nautical scene, which celebrates its 29th anniversary this year.

The regatta will take place on September 5, 6 and 7 in the waters of the Bay of Baiona and the Vigo estuary, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Naval Military School of Marin , with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Galician Sailing Federation .

The Trophy will include, on the different days of competition, various sporting events depending on the class of boats. On Friday the 5th , starting at 3:55 p.m., the ORCs, J80s and Ladies will compete in various windward/leeward (routes between buoys), while the Specials and Classics rest.

On Saturday the 6th , all the boats will go to sea. Starting at 11:55, the ORCs, J80s and Ladies will compete, and at 12:25, the Classics and Specials. While the former fight for the podium in windward / leeward, the latter must complete a coastal course.

On Sunday the 7th , the scheme of the previous day is repeated in terms of the design of the tests (windward/leeward for ORC, J80 and Ladies Cup; and coastal route for Specials and Classics), but with a change in the schedules. Everyone will hear the starting honk at the same time, at 11:55.

In addition to the traditional sporting events, the program for the XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy includes many other activities, such as breakfasts, meetings, talks, recordings of programs, tastings, parties and fireworks.

In short, it will be three days of meetings for the best crews in Spain and Portugal, which will become a reality thanks to the work of nearly 100 people and the sponsorship of Bodegas Terras Gauda, Turismo Rías Baixas, Plymouth, Storax, Lunic, Solventis, Coca Cola, Watching Man, Estrella Galicia and Gadis , along with many other collaborating companies.

Within the framework of the XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy, the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will also be presented at a gala to be held on Saturday the 6th starting at 8:00 p.m. at the Monte Real Yacht Club.

These prestigious awards, which recognize the work of people and institutions in favor of the sailing world, will go this year to the Solventis and Movistar boats, the MAPFRE Challenge , the production company A Contracorriente Films and the ocean sailor Alex Pella .

Once again this year, the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayonne will host the awards ceremony Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards 2013 , awards created 22 years ago with the aim of recognizing the work of different people and institutions in favor of the world of sailing, as well as its human and sporting values.

The prizes will be awarded at the club’s facilities on Saturday, September 6, at a gala sponsored by Terras Gauda , and part of the celebration of the XXIX Prince of Asturias Trophy.

The Solventis , owned by the shipowners Alberto and Pablo Moro, and the Movistar , owned by Pedro Campos, will receive the prize for the best boats, for achieving victory in practically all the regattas in which they participated in their classes in 2013, the ORC 0-1 and the ORC 2-3 respectively.

The MAPFRE Challenge will be awarded as the best project of 2013 after breaking a new record in the Atlantic on the Route of the Discovery of America. The crew traveled the more than 5,000 miles that separate Palos de la Frontera and San Salvador (Bahamas) in 11 days 7 hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds.

The production company A Contracorriente Films will receive the Mariano Aguado Communication Award for having collaborated in disseminating and bringing the world of sailing closer to the general public with its film “ En Solitario ”.

And the Catalan sailor and sailor Alex Pella will be recognized as the best oceanic sailor of 2013, the year in which he won first place in the Tour of Europe regatta “ Route des Princes ”, and second place in the Transoceanic regatta “ Transat Jacques Vabre ”.

The winners of this new edition of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will receive as a trophy a reproduction of the signal mast of the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne, which since December 2013 bears the name of its president, Rafael Olmedo Limeses.

The award ceremony will be held on September 6 at eight in the afternoon at the Baionese club. At the end of the event there will be a dinner in honor of the winners.
