The girls rule in the Baitra Social League Final

· Elena Molares and Emma Arana took the lead in the 420 class after finishing first in the four races held today in Baiona

· In the Optimist competition, the provisional podium is occupied by Laura Cao, María Carneiro and Ignacio Salgueiro and Sergio Golpe leads the Optimist Escuela

· The Final of the Baitra Social League of the Monte Real Club de Yates ends tomorrow, Sunday, with the second and last day of tests starting at eleven

Clear feminine protagonism in the first day of the Final of the Baitra Social League, which takes place this weekend in Baiona under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales.

The team made up of Elena Molares and Emma Arana, both 16 years old, were unbeatable in the 420 class competition, in which they made it to the full. Very attuned in the water, Molares and Arana achieved four first places in the four tests held this afternoon in the waters of the bay.

They are thus placed at the head of a class in which the brothers Yago and Jorge González also had a very outstanding performance. Despite not being able to beat the girls, they managed to sign four second places and hold the provisional silver. Xesús Marcote and Carlos Trapero occupy the third position in the absence of the last heats that will be held tomorrow.

For the Optimists, who also competed today in Baiona with the 420, the regatta committee launched another four tests that, despite being held on the same course, had a different design, with a shorter route. There were several sections between buoys in which Laura Cao, 13, obtained the best results. With two first places, a second and a third, he was placed leader of the class, followed by María Carneiro and Ignacio Salgueiro, who are second and third respectively.

In the Optimist School class, the winner of the day was Sergio Golpe, 12 years old, who, despite starting the day somewhat weakly, picked up the pace little by little and in the last two races he was ahead of all his rivals. The northwest wind, which blew with an average of 13 knots and peaks of more than 15, complicated the navigation of the smaller ones, for which the regatta committee finally decided to reduce the number of tests.

The sailors of this Baitra Social League Final will go out on the water tomorrow, Sunday, starting at eleven o’clock in the morning to compete in the last races of the competition. Although the weather forecasts somewhat weaker wind conditions, the organization hopes to hold at least two other tasks for each class.

Tomorrow the initiation students of the Monte Real Club de Yates Sailing School will also go out on the water, who this Saturday experienced their first experience in a competition with great emotion.

Once the regatta day is over, the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club will host the awards ceremony for the winners, in which not only the best of this final will be awarded, but also the most outstanding sailors of all the contested races throughout the year in the MRCYB Social League. Leading those classifications are Rosalía Martínez and Sandra Trigo in 420 and Nacho Salgueiro in Optimist.

· The children’s trophy organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates includes several tests to be played between Saturday and Sunday in the bay of Baiona

· To the competition of the Optimist and 420 classes will be added a group of Omegas in which children who are just starting out in the world of sailing will sail

· The Baitra Social League Final closes the 2016-2017 season of the Monte Real Sailing School and begins its summer program

Fifty children between the ages of 7 and 18 will haggle this weekend in the Baitra Social League Final, a competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates that will include several regattas in the bay of Baiona.

The tests, in which young sailors from the Optimist and 420 classes will compete, will be held on Saturday from one in the afternoon and on Sunday from half past eleven in the morning. They will be routes between buoys, placed in the shape of a trapezoid, in a regatta field that can be seen both from the peninsula of the Parador Nacional de Baiona and from the closest sandbanks.

To the Optimist and 420, used to training and competitions, will be added, on this occasion, a group of Omegas in which children who are just starting out in the world of sailing will sail. It is an initiative with which those responsible for the Monte Real Sailing School seek to offer the smallest the opportunity to live the experience of a regatta from within.

After finishing the last tests in the water, on Sunday at noon, the competition will move to the mainland to celebrate the award ceremony for the winners, in which the manager of Baitra, Juan Carlos González, will participate as sponsor of the event; and several representatives of the Baiona city council and the board of directors of Monte Real.

The Final of the Social League marks the closing of the 2016-2017 season of the MRCYB Sailing School and marks the beginning of the club’s summer program, which includes multiple activities for all types of audiences, both sports and leisure.

For the little ones, Monte Real also has light sailing courses scheduled during the months of July and August, in the morning or afternoon. And for the older ones, cruising sailing courses. The club also organizes getaways to the Cíes Islands from Baiona, with which to spend a whole day sailing; and sunsets on a sailboat, with which to enjoy the sunset aboard one of the club’s boats.

ABANCA and the MRCYB renew their commitment to grassroots sailing in Galicia

· ABANCA officials signed an agreement this morning in Baiona to promote grassroots sailing in collaboration with the Monte Real Yacht Club

· Thousands of children have been able to start practicing nautical sports thanks to the support that the entity has provided for years to the club’s Sailing School

· The promotion of sailing among the youngest is one of the fundamental axes of the sponsorship strategy of the bank based in Galicia

ABANCA renewed this morning in Baiona its commitment to basic sailing in Galicia by signing an agreement that will allow hundreds of children to start practicing this nautical sport through the Monte Real Yacht Club Sailing School.

The Galicia-based bank once again bets on the Baionese club, giving it a boost that Monte Real considers essential to continue consolidating its training project, which includes dinghy sailing and cruising classes, and a special section for Sailing adapted for people with disabilities.

The commercial director of ABANCA, Gabriel González Eiroa, was in charge of signing this morning with the president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez, the agreement thanks to which the club will be able to maintain the activities it carries out throughout the year, in which hundreds of children participate.

ABANCA was distinguished in 2016 with the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the best sponsor for its commitment to grassroots sailing through the support it provides to numerous sailing schools, clubs, organizations and companies related to nautical activity.

As its original entities did for decades, ABANCA maintains a close relationship with sailing in all its aspects, due to its educational, sporting and economic values. In addition to supporting basic and competition sailing, it supports different business projects related to the nautical sector.

· Accompanied by the president of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez, Feijóo was in charge of raising the blue flag that will fly this year at the club

· The good environmental practices of the Monte Real Yacht Club have allowed it to consolidate a distinction that it has maintained since 1988

Baiona, June 19, 2017.- The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, hoisted this morning at the Monte Real Club de Yates the blue flag that will wave at the Baiona yacht club throughout this year.

It did so after closing the act of awarding blue flags to Galician beaches and marinas, an event that the town of Baiona hosted for the first time in its history, and for which the Xunta chose the facilities of Monte Real.

During the event, Núñez Feijóo was in charge of presenting the president of the yacht club, José Luis Álvarez, with the distinction that the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) granted once again to Monte Real, for the environmental care of its infrastructures, the quality of its waters and the excellence of its nautical services.

The Baionese club is one of the 18 marinas in Galicia, 8 of them in the province of Pontevedra, distinguished in 2017 with this prestigious award, which has the backing of UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization, and which recognizes the good management that Monte Real carries out in its facilities. The club thus consolidates a distinction that it has maintained, uninterruptedly except for one year, since 1988.

The blue flag delivery ceremony held in Baiona was attended, in addition to the president of the Xunta, by the Government Delegate in Galicia, Santiago Villanueva; the Regional Minister for the Environment, Beatriz Mato; the Mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; and the President of the ADEAC, José Ramón Sánchez, among other authorities.

Also present were representatives of the 38 Galician municipalities awarded the 113 blue flags that the ADEAC awarded to Galician beaches in 2017.

The Margem do Azul of the MRCYB remains on the provisional podium of the Interclubes

The Margem do Azul III of the Monte Real Club de Yates, led by Frederico Lopes, remains on the provisional podium of the I Ría de Vigo Interclub Regatta, in which it competes in the cruiser class.

The Marías, also wearing a MRCYB pendant, achieved a creditable second place on the second day played today, but failed to sneak into the top three overall.

Situation similar to that of Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, who despite achieving third place in the regatta held this afternoon, fell from the provisional podium on which he had stood after the first day.

The competition, organized jointly by the MRCYB, the RCN Vigo and the RCN Rodeira, will hold its third and last test on June 24.

Aboard the Fend la Bise, Jean Claude Sarrade and André Amorín became the new Galician Two-handed Champions this weekend after winning the competition organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club by delegation of the Galician Sailing Federation.

Sarrade, who came to the regatta with aspirations to revalidate his title as Galician Solitary Champion, was forced at the last minute to look for a crew member to be able to compete in A Two, since the Solitary prize was not disputed due to lack of boats . The experienced skipper put Amorín on his Fend la Bise and together, wearing the organizing club’s pendant, they achieved victory in the competition sponsored by Inserimos Energía.

They also took the cup of the III Rafael Olmedo Memorial and they also won the gold of class A Two-1, leaving the silver to another regular on the sailing podiums in Galicia, the Bosch Service Solutions of the Maritime Club of Canido. With Ramón Ojea at the wheel and Pablo Franco completing the crew, the Bosch was in second position throughout the regatta, only surpassed by the Gaiás Clinic, which was unbeatable in real time.

The Náutico de Portosín boat, manned by José María Peinó and Fernando Míguez, was the leader from the start and was the fastest to complete the 35.8-mile round trip between the bay of Baiona and the island of Ons. It took him a little over five and a half hours to cross the finish line and he won in real time, but the time compensation made him fall to eighth position. Third place in class A Two-1 went to Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes and Damián Puebla, a J80 from the Monte Real Club de Yates.

In class A Two-2, the podium was shared between Vigo and Baiona. The gold went to the Ay Carmela of the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, in which Juan Martínez and Rafael Martínez-Almeida sailed hand in hand. The silver went to Vicente Cid and Javier Miguez aboard the Deep Blue of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, and Mariano Dios and Luis Rodríguez, who sailed on the Abal Abogados-Lagar de Pintos-Fanautic, inscribed their name on the bronze with a pendant of Mount Royal.

In the real-time competition of the J80 monotypes, the fastest boat, with 6 hours of navigation, was the Cansino of Fernándo Yáñez and Flavio Martín. Javier Rey and Juan Lago’s Virazón crossed the finish line three minutes after Cansino and finished second, and third position went to Enrique Porto and Damián Puebla’s Ferralemes, who entered thirteen minutes after the first.

The Galician Solo and Two-handed Championship, which the Monte Real Yacht Club organized for the sixth consecutive year by delegation of the Galician Sailing Federation, was held in the Rías Baixas with very good sailing conditions. The fleet traveled the almost 36 round trip miles that separate the Bay of Baiona and the Camouco lighthouse with a wind between 12 and 24 knots

From Baiona to Ons for the Galician championship

· More than 30 sailors will compete tomorrow in the Rías Baixas for the Galician Solo and Two-handed Championship organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club by delegation of the Galician Sailing Federation

The sailboats will depart at eleven o’clock in the morning from the Bay of Baiona towards the Camouco lighthouse in front of Ons Island, from where they will return to finish the tour in the vicinity of the Torre Tenaza

· In dispute will also be the cup of the third Rafael Olmedo Memorial – Inserimos Trophy that pays tribute to the one who was president of the Baion club for more than 40 years

More than 30 sailors from different Galician yacht clubs will compete tomorrow Saturday in the Rías Baixas for the Galician Solo and Two-handed Championship, a test whose main characteristic is that the sailboats must be manned by one or two people at most.

At eleven o’clock in the morning, the fleet of boats arriving from Sada, Portosín, Bouzas, Punta Lagoa, Canido or Baiona, and a couple of them from Portugal and the United Kingdom, will hear the starting signal inside the bay of Baiona, from where they will head towards the Camouco lighthouse, opposite the island of Ons.

About forty miles of round trip that the crews will face in good conditions, since the weather forecasts announce a wind from the northwest with an average of 12 knots, which could increase to 24 in the early afternoon.

Among the competitors we will see the usual faces of this type of regattas with reduced crews. They will be, among others, the current solitaire champion, Jean Claude Sarrade; or José María Peinó, who will try to improve on the third place he achieved in the previous edition of the championship.

Victor Carrión and Ana Sardiña on board the Menudeta, and Enrique Porto and Damián Puebla on the J80 Ferralemes are other favorites to win the A Dos title. And in a mostly male fleet, the presence of a boat manned only by women stands out, the Pazo de Cea, in which María Campos and Rita Hernández will compete.

They will then cross the entrance to the Vigo estuary through the interior of the Cíes Islands and go to the Camouco lighthouse, opposite the Ons island, at the mouth of the Pontevedra estuary. From there, the return to Baiona will begin, where the arrival point will be installed in front of the Tenaza tower.

The Rías Baixas host this weekend the Galician Solitaire and Two-handed Championship

· It is one of the most exciting races of the sailing season in Galicia as sailboats compete with crews reduced to the maximum, with one or two sailors on board

· For the sixth consecutive year, the Galician Sailing Federation chose the Monte Real Yacht Club to organize a competition sponsored by Inserimos Energía and which the club from Baiona dedicates to its former president Rafael Olmedo

· Among the participants and contenders for the title this 2017 will be on board the Fend la Bise the current solo champion Jean Claude Sarrade

The Galician Sailing Federation has chosen the Monte Real Club de Yates to organize, for the sixth consecutive year, the Galician Solitary and Two-handed Championship, a competition sponsored by Inserimos Energía and which the club from Baiona will dedicate to its former president Rafael Olmedo, who passed away in 2015. The test, which will be held next Saturday, is, due to its characteristics, one of the most exciting of the sailing season in Galicia, since sailboats compete with crews reduced to the maximum, with one or two sailors on board.

Participants must complete a route of between 30 and 41 miles with obligatory steps through different points of the Rías Baixas. After crossing the starting line inside the Bay of Baiona, the boats will head towards the Carallones and La Negra beacons, in the surroundings of the Estelas Islands.

New technologies will have a prominent presence in the competition thanks to the eStela mobile application, through which each boat will transmit its position in real time. In addition to providing security to the championship, this system will allow the public to follow the development of the test live at all times, through a website.

Among the contenders for the 2017 title will be the current solo champion and recent winner of the “Volta ás Cíes” at the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, Jean Claude Sarrade, who will skipper, as always, his Fend la Bise.

The Galician Solitaire and Two-Handed Championship – III Rafael Olmedo Memorial will end with the award ceremony for the winners, on Saturday at nine o’clock at night, and a seafood dinner at the organizing club’s facilities.
