The Fifty wins the Repsol Trophy

· The crew led by the Portuguese Rui Ramada wins for the second consecutive year in the spring regatta of the Monte Real Club de Yates

· The April oils of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal fought hard with the Portuguese for victory and got a meritorious second place

· In the category of the J80 the victory went to the Mi Moneda of Guillermo Caamaño and the Tutatis of Alberto Iglesias prevailed in the Figaro class

Baiona, May 3, 2015.- They came ready to revalidate their victory in the Monte Real spring regatta, and they did so. The Fifty crew, led by Rui Ramada, managed to win the Repsol Trophy for the second consecutive year.

Wearing the organizing club’s pendant, the Portuguese won the gold of the competition after winning the two stages held on this bridge on May 1. Last Friday they covered, with a tailwind, the 19 miles that separate Baiona from Sanxenxo in just two and a half hours. This Sunday they used just over three hours to navigate, upwind, the 16 miles between Sanxenxo and Carallones.

Always sailing by your side, both on Friday and Sunday, the Aceites Abril , from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo. Despite making a great regatta, and overtaking him on several occasions, the boat of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, was not able to snatch the victory from Fifty. He finally won the silver of the competition, leaving the bronze to Bosch Service Solutions of the Club Marítimo de Canido, skippered by Ramón Ojea.

Very exciting was also the competition of the J80, which sailed very evenly throughout the course. Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda , which had already won the first stage, managed to prevail again in the second and emerge as the winner. The second position of the monotypes went to Virazón de Miguel Lago and third to Escuela Náutico Cormorán , with Ignacio Bolíbar at the helm.

In the figaro class, the places of honor went to Alberto Iglesias’ Tutatis , Octavio Villalba’s Ladeira and Amparo Mollá’s Erizana , who came first, second and third respectively.

After the competition ended, Repsol’s Deputy Director of Marine and Fisheries, Carlos Sánchez Nieto, presented the prizes to the winners.

50 years making history at sea

· The Monte Real Yacht Club celebrates half a century of life this Tuesday promoting international nautical tourism and the organization of regattas

· Since its birth, on March 24, 1965, the Baionese club has starred in some of the most important chapters in the history of sailing in Spain

· The Monte Real celebrates its golden anniversary with a notable absence, that of its emblematic president Don Rafael Olmedo, who died last February

The Monte Real Yacht Club celebrates half a century of life this Tuesday promoting international nautical tourism and the organization of regattas.

Since its birth, on March 24, 1965, the Baionese club has starred in some of the most important chapters in the history of sailing, which has allowed it to become an indisputable benchmark for this sport in Spain.

It was with the Discovery Regatta, in 1972, that the club began to make a name for itself in the nautical scene. Several editions of the Lymington-Baiona, European and World Championships, and numerous international Grade One Match Race regattas would follow, in which the best skippers in the world participated.

But it was undoubtedly the challenge to the Copa América, presented in 1989, that catapulted the Monte Real Club de Yates. The most prestigious competition in the world would finally have a Spanish representative. In 1992, Spain attended the Copa América for the first time, a feat that the Baionese club would repeat on two more occasions, in 1995 and 2000.

Currently, Monte Real is known worldwide for two of its regattas, which coincidentally are also celebrating their anniversary in 2015. They are the Prince of Asturias Trophy and the Count of Gondomar Trophy, which are celebrating their 30th and 40th anniversary respectively.

Some anniversaries that the Baionese club will celebrate with a notable absence, that of its emblematic president Don Rafael Olmedo, who died last February at the age of 99 after more than 40 years at the helm of the institution.

The Monte Real Yacht Club welcomes the Nao Victoria on its journey through Europe

The club received this morning at its marina the replica of the ship that made the first circumnavigation of the world in the history of mankind

· The boat, coming from a tour of the United States, will remain in Baiona for several days before embarking on a journey to northern Europe

· A program of visits organized by the Nao Victoria Foundation will allow the public to discover the ins and outs of the ship

Baiona, March 19, 2015.- The Monte Real Club de Yates hosts from this morning at its facilities the replica of the Nao Victoria, the vessel that between 1519 and 1522 marked a milestone in the history of navigation by becoming the first ship to circumnavigate the world.

The Nao Victoria moored in the marina of the Baiona club from the port of Cascais, in Portugal, where it made its last stop before arriving in Galicia. In Baiona, once it leaves Monte Real, it will remain moored for several days at the maritime station, very close to the caravel Pinta, and starting tomorrow, Friday, the public will be able to explore its interior and discover its ins and outs thanks to the “ Nao Victory Experience ”.

It is an initiative promoted by the Nao Victoria Foundation, which is made up of three main elements: a previous exhibition tour, a visit to the ship and the video “Discovering the discoverers ”, which will allow visitors to learn more about the reality of the 18 navigators who 5 centuries ago made the feat possible.

The replica of the Nao Victoria that remains moored at Monte Real, in addition to being a work of art of riverside carpentry, also has its own history, since between 2004 and 2006 it made its particular trip around the world manned by 20 young people.

A milestone in the history of navigation

On September 8, 1522, 18 men led by Juan Sebastián Elcano, aboard the Nao Victoria, completed the greatest feat in the history of navigation, by managing to circumnavigate the world for the first time by sea.

After more than three years of navigation, they were able to discover the true dimension of the globe, they demonstrated that all the oceans were interconnected and they took the first steps to create a network of routes that would link all the world’s continents through the sea.

More than 60 years passed before another navigator repeated his feat of circumnavigating the planet.

An unprecedented adventure

The expedition that made history and became the first to go around the world was made up of 5 ships and 243 crew members. It departed from the port of Seville on August 10, 1915, led by Fernando de Magallanes.

For years he traveled the South American Atlantic coast, until discovering the long-awaited passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, known today as the Strait of Magellan.

The expedition crossed the Pacific Ocean for the first time in history, using long months of navigation on its journey and taking a large number of lives ahead.

The only surviving ship, the Nao Victoria, undertook the return through the Indian Ocean, sailing for months along the route of the “roaring forties”, non-stop, until reaching the African continent. Once rounded the Cape of Good Hope, he ascended the Atlantic and returned to his port of departure, with only 18 men on board, captained in his last stages by Juan Sebastian de Elcano.

After more than three years of travel, the Nao Victoria completed the first circumnavigation of the world in history, marking a milestone in the history of navigation.

Mi Moneda strengthens its leadership on the fifth day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy

· The boat skippered by Jacobo Vecino won decisively in all the tests held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona

· The Virazón and the Luna Nueva complete, together with the Mi Moneda, the provisional podium of the competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates

· The Vitaldent J80 Trophy will continue on the last weekend of March with the last two tests of the competition and the award ceremony

Spectacular regatta this Saturday in Baiona, with weather conditions that favored rapid navigation and the maneuvers of the sailboats in the bay. The crew of the Mi Moneda, skippered by Jacobo Vecino, knew how to make the most of the 20 knots of wind that were recorded and successfully finished the competition by crossing the finish line first in the three races held.

At her stern, at all times, Roberto Fontán’s Ferralemes and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, who achieved second and third place respectively in this afternoon’s regattas.

After today’s session, Mi Moneda strengthens its leadership in the overall Monte Real trophy, with three victories in the five days of competition. Virazón and Luna Nueva would obtain, if they manage to maintain their good results, the silver and bronze of the trophy. The general classification is completed by Namasté, Nortada and Ferralemes.

The Vitaldent J80 Trophy will continue on March 28 and 29 with the last two tests of the competition and the award ceremony for the winners.

Mi Moneda wins on the fourth day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy of Monte Real

· The boat, with Jacobo Vecino at the helm and Laureano Wizner in the crew, achieves its second victory in the trophy and takes the lead from Virazón

· The provisional classification leaves Miguel Lago’s Virazón and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva in second and third position

· The Vitaldent Trophy thus passes the halfway point of the tests, which will continue on March 14, 28 and 29

Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda, skippered this Sunday by Jacobo Vecino, managed to win the fourth day of the Vitaldent J80 Trophy of the Monte Real Club de Yates, held this morning in the Bay of Baiona.

The good work of Vecino and his crew, among which the Copa América sailor Laureano Wizner stood out, allowed them to win two of the three races held on a rainy day, with winds between 12 and 17 knots, reaching peaks of 21 at times.

Mi Moneda thus managed to snatch the leadership of the competition from Virazón, who had been first in the general standings since last February 14. Miguel Lago’s boat drops to second place with just one point difference from the leader.

In third position is Luna Nueva, by Juan Luis Tuero; followed by Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Iago Carballo’s Nortada, tied on points; and the sixth classified is Ferralemes, by Roberto Fontán.

The Vitaldent J80 Trophy will continue on March 14 with the fifth of the seven scheduled days. The last two will be held on the 28th and 29th. The competition will end with the awards ceremony for the winners at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates, in Baiona.
