Baiona celebrated this afternoon, with great public success and participation, the first edition of the Solidarity Vertiathlon, a sports competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Baiona council with the sponsorship of Verti Seguros and the collaboration of the Galician Federation of triathlon.

The objective of the same, in addition to enjoying the spectacular nature of a triathlon in an incomparable setting, was to raise funds for the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School, which for years has been serving different associations and groups of people with disabilities.

At five in the afternoon, more than 200 people lined up behind the starting line on A Barbeira beach to compete in a sprint triathlon that included swimming, cycling and running events.

The participants in the different categories, from junior to veteran, swam 750 meters between the beaches of A Barbeira and A Ribeira, cycled 20 kilometers along the main road of Baiona, and ran 5 kilometers around the Parador Nacional.

Together with them, the paratriathlete from Vigo Susana Rodríguez Gacio, who in addition to sponsoring the Vertiathlon, wanted to compete in the event and participate in the awards ceremony held at the Monte Real Yacht Club facilities.

In the absolute category, the winners of this first Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona were Brais Misa García, from the Porriño Athletics Club, and Mar Villar Zamuz, from Trinorth Nogasa. In addition to the trophy accrediting their gold in the competition, they received annual car insurance as a prize courtesy of Verti Seguros.

José Benito Silva Sayáns, from the Axa Agencia Garriga Beariz Triathlon, and Cristina Torres Hervés, from the Mar de Vigo Triathlon Club, received the male and female awards in the cadet category; and Xurxo Rigueira Díaz, from the Mar de Vigo Triathlon Club, the male junior.

In the veterans category, the winners were José Manuel Pardo Leis, from the Arteixo Triathlon, and María del Carmen Cabaleiro, from the La Fuente Cycling Club.

Prizes were also awarded to the first general classified classified in Baiona, who were Sandra Santodomingo Fabián and Antonio Liébanas Méndez; and eight insurances were raffled among all the participants.

At the end of the distribution of trophies, the General Director of Verti Seguros, Enrique Flores, who also competed in the triathlon, presented the Monte Real Club de Yates with a check for an amount of 5,750 euros. That amount, raised with the inscriptions of the test, will go entirely to the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities.

The person in charge of collecting it was the vice president of the Baiona club, Alejandro Retolaza, who thanked Verti, the Baiona council and the Galician Triathlon Federation for having made this solidarity competition a reality. He also highlighted the support of a large number of firms and companies that altruistically collaborated with the Vertiathlon.

Retolaza ended his speech by thanking the entire public for their participation and launching into the air the wish to be able to bring them together, next year, in a second edition of the competition.

Baiona will host next Saturday, September 12, the I Solidarity Vertiathlon, an event organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Baiona council with the sponsorship of Verti Seguros and the collaboration of the Galician Triathlon Federation.

The sports competition, with the design of a sprint triathlon, will begin at five in the afternoon and will include three swimming, cycling and running events in the bay of Baiona and in various streets of the town. The participants of the different categories (cadet, junior, absolute and veteran), both female and male, must complete a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run.

The absolute first male and female classified will receive, as a prize, an annual car insurance courtesy of Verti Seguros; and among all the participants, eight other insurances valued at 300 euros each will be raffled .

The money raised with the more than 200 registrations of the participants will go entirely to the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club, which provides services to associations of disabled people in Galicia.

After a few years working with groups from Val Miñor, Tomiño and A Guarda, the school is currently seeking funding with the aim of being able to expand to offer these adapted navigation courses to centers throughout Galicia.

Sports helping each other in an incomparable setting

A spectacular tour in an incomparable setting. This is how the route of the I Solidarity Vertiathlon was defined by the president of the Galician Triathlon Federation, Oscar José Surís, who this Saturday will be participating as one more in the competition.

For the person in charge of FEGATRI, there are few triathlons in Spain that can boast of a stage like that of Baiona, an idea that the paratriathlete from Vigo and godmother of the Vertiathlon Susana Rodríguez also insisted on. With a severe visual impairment due to her albino condition, Susana is the Galician and Spanish champion of the Paralympic duathlon, and last year she received the title of Best Galician Athlete with a Disability. This Saturday he will swim and run alongside the more than 200 athletes who will participate in the Vertiathlon.

In the presentation to the media held this morning at the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club, the vice president of the Baiona club, Alejandro Retolaza, highlighted the sponsorship of Verti Seguros, without which, he said, this event could not be held. He also thanked the support of numerous companies and firms that will selflessly collaborate in the event and all the volunteers who will help with the organization on Saturday.

The vice president of Monte Real was very satisfied with the boost that the Vertiathlon will give the Club’s Adapted Sailing School, which aspires, he said, to continue growing so that many more people can practice sailing under equal conditions.

A tour of the fishing village

The I Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona will begin with the swimming test, in which the participants must swim the distance that separates the beaches of Barbeira and A Ribeira. Both sandbanks are located in the urban center of the town of Baiona, at the foot of the wall that surrounds the Monte Boi peninsula, separated by the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

At the end of the swim, the participants will pick up their bikes on the basketball courts in the La Palma area and prepare for the second of the tests, the cyclist, which will include four laps between two of the roundabouts that give access to Baiona , that of Baredo and that of Santa Marta.

The last of the sprint triathlon tests will be the foot race, and it will be held in one of the most visited places in Baiona, the Parador Nacional. Athletes must complete two laps of the walled enclosure of the Monterreal peninsula, also known as the Monte Boi peninsula.

Special operation in Baiona

To guarantee the correct celebration of the I Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona, next Saturday the 12th, the city council will carry out a series of traffic cuts in some points of the town. They will imply, according to Mayor Jesús Vázquez Almuiña, a small effort on the part of the citizens, but they will be, he said, for a good cause.

The N-550, from the gas station roundabout to the Baredo roundabout, will remain completely closed from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be duly signposted alternative itineraries for all those cars that wish to cross the town.

A little later, between 18:30 and 19:30, the most difficult point for circulation will be the entrance to the Parador de Baiona. Traffic will not be cut off, but it will be controlled by members of the Local Police.

During all these cuts, the Baiona taxi rank will be moved to Brasil street, in front of the health center, a place to which the public transport stops located on the N-550 will also be moved.

The Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne hosted this Sunday the third and last day of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, co-organized by the Bayonne club and the Military Naval School of Marín, with the sponsorship of Storax and Terras Gauda.

Today was a day marked by little wind, which forced the start of the competition to be postponed for an hour, and to reduce the number of tests initially planned in the programme. Before hearing the starting horn, the entire fleet observed a minute of silence as a sign of respect and mourning for those who died in the A Coruña rally.

In the field of the ORC 1, located in the anchorage of the Cíes Islands, the Fifty del Monte Real Club de Yates, of the Portuguese Rui Ramada and skippered by Diogo Ramada, made another day with the victory of the tests and rose winner in his class. The Portuguese also won the Don Juan de Borbón Award, which is given to the best Portuguese boat in the competition.

The ORC 1 podium was completed by Willy Alonso’s Castrosúa, who won the silver trophy; and Aceites Abril, by Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which came in third place.

In the ORC 2 class, the victory went to the Movistar of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, who sentenced the competition with three first places in the three days held. Those led by Pedro Campos left second and third place for Solventis del Monte Real skippered by Malalo Bermúdez de Castro; and the Starfighter of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which sailed with Julio Rodríguez at the helm.

The crew led by Nuno Ribas, on board Plane B, managed to place the Clube de Vela Atlántico flag pole at the top of the ORC 3 podium, leaving Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, from Monte Real, in their wake. Luis Suárez’s Maracana Mediolanum, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, also managed to sneak into the winners of this thirtieth edition of the trophy by finishing third.

In the J80 real-time competition, the winner of the trophy was Pablo Martínez’s Marina Coruña, who signed three great victories in the three days of testing. Despite the fact that in all the batons disputed by the fleet there was a fair amount of equality, those of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña always stood out above the rest and won the Iberian J80 Championship. Second and third place went to two boats from the Monte Real Club de Yates: Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes and Gerardo Alonso’s Virazón.

The Ladies Cup closed the Príncipe de Asturias with a balance of six contested races. The victory finally went to the girls of the Madrilenian Sailing Federation, led by Amparo Mollá. The silver went to the Natural Ladies team, from the Burriana Regatta Club, with Elena Saez at the helm; and the bronze went to the Monte Real Club de Yates team, skippered by Genoveva Pereiro.

In the ORC 4 class, the trophy podium was made up of two boats from the organizing club, Javier Rey’s Q Talento Consultores and Frederico Lópes’ Margem do Azul; and one from the Rio Yachts Club, the Aeris de Mariano Dios.

Vicente Cid’s Deep Blue, with a necklace from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, was the winner of the ORC Open. Fernand Arteaga’s Chao, from Monte Real, and Pitoucho from the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, skippered by José Carlos Ruiz, completed the top positions in the general classification.

The Clásicos disputed no test today so the general did not undergo modifications with respect to the previous day. Gold, silver and bronze went, respectively, to Belisa by José Manuel Cores, Sara O by Xosé Avelino and Arosa by Oscar Ortega.

This thirtieth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy also decided the victory of the III Atlantic Cruise Circuit, after the tests held this summer in the Mateus Rosé Sailing Cup in Porto and in the Cascais Vela 2015. The winner was Rui Ramada’s Fifty, after winning two first places and one second.

Other awards that were handed out this afternoon at Monte Real were the ORC Spanish Cup, won by Willy Alonso’s Castrosúa, Malalo Bermúdez’s Solventis, Luis Suarez’s Maracaná Mediolanum and Frederico’s Margem do Azul Lopes in ORC 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

The crew of the Redondela Center for Disabled Persons, who participated for the first time in a sports competition, received an honorable mention. They are a group of five students from the Adapted Sailing School of the Baionese club, who began sailing this year thanks to the “Lecer Activo” program of the Xunta de Galicia’s General Secretariat of Social Policy.

With the delivery of awards to the winners, the end was put to a competition that marked the high point of the Monte Real Club de Yates regatta season, which will continue from October with the J80 SabadellGallego League. Previously, on September 12, the Baiona club will co-organize, together with the Baiona City Council and Verti Seguros, the First Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona.

The Monte Real Club de Yates hosted tonight in Baiona the award ceremony for the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards, one of the most prestigious awards on the nautical scene, which recognizes the work of people and institutions to promote and disseminate aspects related to sailing world.

In this twenty-third edition of the awards, sponsored for yet another year by Bodegas Terras Gauda, and held within the framework of the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, the special award of the night went to Astilleros Lagos, as a forerunner of the Spanish nautical industry. The company from Vigo, which celebrates its centenary this year, is an indisputable benchmark in riverside carpentry, a leader in the construction and restoration of wooden boats.

The second award given at the National Sailing Awards gala was the Mariano Aguado Communication Award, which on this occasion went to the Argentine Juan Pablo Cadario. His great work at the head of the JuanpaNews blog has made him one of the reference sources of information for current events in the nautical world.

The director of Fundación Repsol’s social and institutional area, Javier Inclán, was in charge of collecting the third prize of the night, Sponsor of the Year, which the entity won for its work in contributing to the progress of society with social projects , cultural, educational and research. In the sailing sector, Fundación Repsol collaborates with the Monte Real Yacht Club to promote its Adapted Sailing School, in which people with some type of disability can practice sailing under equal conditions.

Solventis, Movistar and Fifty were the boats that this year won the awards for the best boats of the season, in their different categories. Pablo and Alberto Moro’s Solventis received the award for the best amateur team in the ORC class, after achieving important victories this year, the last one in the Ribeiro Rías de Galicia Regatta, which they won for the fourth consecutive time, something that no ship had achieved to date.

The Portuguese crew of the Fifty and the Movistar de Sanxenxo received the prizes for the best boat in the categories ORC 0-1 and ORC 2-3, respectively. Pedro Campos’ men managed this season to get on the podium in the Prince of Asturias Trophy, El Corte Inglés Master and the President of the Xunta Trophy, as well as in the ORC World Championship held in Barcelona and in the Copa del Rey in Palma.

The Portuguese, with Rui Ramada at the helm, and wearing a pendant from the Monte Real Yacht Club, took the victories of their class in the Prince of Asturias Trophy, El Corte Inglés Master and the President of the Xunta Trophy. They obtained silver in the Winter Trophy and two golds in the Repsol Trophy and the Mateus Rosé Trophy.

Once the award ceremony for the best boats of the season was over, it was time for the awards for the best sailors. Catalan Alex Pella collected what is now his third Terras Gauda National Sailing Award. He received the distinction for the best solo sailor, after becoming the first Spaniard in 2014 to win a solo ocean regatta, the Route du Rhum, in which he also broke the Class 40 record, in which he competed with 43 other boats .

The last award of the night was the one received by Roberto Chuny Bermúdez de Castro as ocean sailor of the year. The 45-year-old from Coruña became the first Galician and second Spaniard to win a Volvo Ocean Race in 2015. He did it as a coskipper and trimmer for Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, from the United Arab Emirates.

The Monte Real Club de Yates held this Saturday the second of the Prince of Asturias Trophy sessions with various windward-leeward events at the Cíes Islands anchorage and in the Bay of Baiona, for the ORCs, J80s and Fígaros; and a coastal regatta for the ORC 4, Open and classic.

After the fabulous first day played yesterday, Friday, in which the weather conditions were ideal for sailing, the regatta committee today had more difficulties to carry out the tests. Despite having to delay the departure of the boats to the water with a postponement, it was finally possible to complete several courses in each of the classes.

In the ORCs field, located outside the bay, the crews had to make an effort to complete the poles with a wind of just 7 knots, which only rose to 10 at specific times.

In the ORC 1 class, the Fifty del Monte Real Club de Yates once again demonstrated its power on the water. The Portuguese won both races played today and continue to lead the general standings, with Castrosúa and Pairo 8 in second and third position. The Aceites Abril of the Pérez Canal brothers and the Xekmatt of José Carlos Prista also gave a lot of battle on the water today and are in good positions to fight for a place on the podium.

In ORC 2, Pedro Campos’ Movistar, who was leading the first day, continues to lead the class. After two fabulous tests, he left Alberto Moro’s Solventis in second place and Julio Rodríguez’s Starfighter in third place.

The J80s competed today on two different race courses. One more day, the Marina Coruña, skippered by Pablo Martín, stood out from the rest, and consolidated in the first position of the general classification. In its wake, Willy Caamaño’s Mi Moneda and Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes.

In the Ladies Cup, the equality of boats and crews was once again noted. The overall is led by Amparo Mollá’s boat from the Madrilenian Sailing Federation, followed by the girls from the Monte Real Yacht Club, skippered by Genoveva Pereiro. The thirtieth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy ends tomorrow with the last tests of the competition. Spectacular first day of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which began this afternoon in Baiona with ideal weather conditions for the fleet to navigate.

With sunshine, good seas and northerly winds of about 14 knots on average and peaks of 18, the different classes were able to complete several windward-leeward tests in the Bay of Baiona and the Cíes Islands anchorage.

In the outer zone the boats of the ORC 1, 2 and 3 classes competed. Two canes were disputed that made up a route of about 6 miles in a field located to the east of the archipelago. The tests began on time, according to the scheduled time, and were carried out without incident.

In the group of ORC 1 the victory was taken by the Portuguese Fifty, from Rui Ramada, from the Monte Real Club de Yates. Pairo 8, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, fought for first place, but Luis Bugallo’s men were unable to beat the Portuguese and had to settle for second place. The provisional bronze of the trophy is held by Castrosúa, skippered by Willy Alonso.

In ORC 2, Pedro Campos’ Movistar, from the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, came with the desire to revalidate his victory in the previous edition of the trophy and carried out two great regattas on this first day of competition. He became the leader of his class, leaving second place for Solventis, from Monte Real, with Malalo Bermúdez de Castro at the helm. In the J80 competition, if there is something to be highlighted from the first three tests that were held for the Prince of Asturias Trophy, it is the equality that existed between all the boats. The fleet competed very close together and the differences were minimal. Despite everything, there was a leading boat, the Marina Coruña, skippered by Pablo Martínez, of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña. The provisional silver and bronze are held, after this first day, by two boats from the Monte Real Club de Yates, Gerardo Alonso’s Virazón and Willy Caamaño’s Mi Moneda.

Along with the J80s, the female crews of the Ladies Cup also competed in the Bay of Baiona. The three windward-leeward routes disputed gave victory to the Madrilenian Sailing Federation team led by Amparo Mollá. Second place went to the local team, from the Monte Real Club de Yates, skippered by Genoveva Pereiro; and the third for the Natural Ladies girls from the Burriana Regatta Club, with Elena Saez de Juan at the helm.

The thirtieth edition of the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, sponsored by Storax and Terras Gauda, continues tomorrow Saturday from noon with the second day of tests, in which the entire fleet will already be present. The Open and the Classics will also go out on the water, to compete in a coastal regatta. The rest of the boats will fight again for the podium in windward-leeward routes.

Once the competition is over, starting at eight in the afternoon, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host the gala for the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards, which this year will be collected, among others, by Chuny Bermúdez and Álex Pella.

Tomorrow, Friday, the thirtieth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy begins in Baiona, one of the most important regattas on the Spanish nautical scene, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar de Marín with the sponsorship of Storax and Terras Gauda.

The forecast of the regatta committee is to honk the start of the first race at five minutes to four in the afternoon, both at the Cíes Islands anchorage, where the ORCs will compete; as in the bay of Baiona, where the J80s and the Ladies Cup girls will haggle.

Both fleets will compete in several windward-leeward tests, routes between buoys in which the crews will have to demonstrate their skill when carrying out the manoeuvres. The weather forecast announces a sunny day, with northerly winds of between 12 and 14 knots inside the bay, and somewhat more intense outside.

Among the crews that will go out on the water on the first day is a team of students from the Adapted Sailing School for disabled people of the Monte Real Yacht Club, which will participate for the first time in a sports competition.

Once the day is over, the sailors will enjoy a seafood dinner in the village located in the Monte Real facilities, where tents have been set up to entertain the three days of the trophy, and where the delivery of the National Sailing Awards will also be held. Terras Gauda.

At the Monte Real Club de Yates, everything is ready for the celebration of the most important sailing event in Galicia and one of the most prestigious on the Spanish nautical scene, the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which this year celebrates its thirtieth edition.

On September 4, 5 and 6, the fishing village of Baiona will host the tests of this new edition of the regatta, in which boats from different divisions ORC Cruiser – Regatta, J80s, Fígaros and Classics will compete.

The tests will begin on Friday afternoon, starting at five minutes to four, with the departure to sea of ORCs 0, 1, 2 and 3, the J80s, and the Ladies Cup female crews, to compete in various windward routes -leeward.

A day later, on Saturday 5, starting at noon the entire fleet will compete. While the fastest boats will once again compete on windward-leeward courses, the ORC 4, ORC Open and Classics will fight for victory in a coastal regatta.

On Sunday the 6th, also starting at noon, the third and last day of tests will be held, with the same competition scheme as the previous day. Once the regattas have finished, the award ceremony for the winners will take place at six in the afternoon at the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

In this 2015, the Prince of Asturias Trophy is also the J80 Iberian Championship and the Spanish Cruise Cup. It will also include the second round of the Xunta President Trophy and the third and last round of the III Atlantic Cruise Circuit, after the previous regattas held in Portugal. Within the framework of the competition, the Ladies Cup will also be held and the Conde de Barcelona Trophy will be awarded, which rewards the best Portuguese boat.

Along with the sporting events, the trophy will include its already traditional parallel activities. Breakfasts, meetings, talks, program recordings, tastings, parties and fireworks will make the event the perfect meeting point for sailors.

In short, it will be three days of competition and fun for the best crews in Spain and Portugal, which will become a reality thanks to the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar de Marín, and the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia – Galician Sports, the Baiona City Council, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Galician Sailing Federation.

Advancing in the integration of disabled people

In this thirtieth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy there will be, for the first time, a team made up of people with some type of disability. They are students of the Redondela Center for People with Disabilities (CAPD), who throughout 2015 were also students of the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

This initiative aims to enable people with some type of disability to compete on equal terms in one of the most prestigious regatta in Spain, together with other people without disabilities. They will also participate in the rest of the activities scheduled for the event, such as breakfasts, parties and award ceremonies.

Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards

As has been a tradition for 23 years, within the framework of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, one more year, the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will be awarded, prestigious awards that distinguish those people and institutions that, throughout of the year, they worked to promote and promote the world of sailing from different fields.

On this occasion the winners are Astilleros Lagos, as a precursor of the Spanish nautical industry; the Solventis, as the best amateur crew of the ORC class; and Fifty and Movistar, as the best boats in the ORC 0-1 and 2-3 classes, respectively. The Catalan Alex Pella will receive the award for the best solo oceanic sailor, and the A Coruña Chuny Bermúdez de Castro for the sailor of the year, after his victory in the Volvo Ocean Race. The Argentinian Juanpa Cadario will receive the Mariano Aguado Award for Communication and Fundación Repsol the Sponsor of the Year Award.

The awards will be presented at a gala that will take place on Saturday the 5th starting at eight in the afternoon at the Monte Real Club de Yates. The winners will receive as a trophy a reproduction of the signal mast Rafael Olmedo del Monte Real, named after its historic president, who died last February.

2015, the year of anniversaries

2015 is undoubtedly a very special year for the Monte Real Yacht Club. After the sad note caused by the loss, in February, of its historic president Rafael Olmedo Limeses, in March the club celebrated half a century of life and in June it received the visit of His Majesty King Felipe, who inaugurated the exhibition in its facilities photo “Monte Real: 50 years of history”.

2015 has also been the year of the anniversaries of two of the main regattas organized by the Baionese club, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, whose fortieth edition was held last July; and the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which will be 30 years old in a few days.

Three decades have passed since that first edition of the competition held in 1986, when 70 boats were placed on the starting line, breaking the record for participation in a regatta in Spain.

From the United States, England, Germany, Israel, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Holland… sailors from all over the world have been coming to Galicia for years in search of the good work of a family of craftsmen who have earned their fame through hard work and effort.

At a time when new technologies and the latest materials have completely changed the shipbuilding and repair sector, a company with tradition as its flag still survives in Vigo. They are the Astilleros Lagos, an indisputable benchmark in shipbuilding carpentry and one of the most traditional firms in the international nautical scene.

The company began its journey in 1915 at the hands of Fernando Lagos Carsi, a mechanical and electrical engineer and naval architect who had studied at the most prestigious schools in London and worked at the famous John Brown shipyard, from which world-famous ships such as the Queen Mary or the Queen Elizabeth.

After a first stage in which they mainly built launches and boats, Astilleros Lagos began to stand out in the 1970s after shaping the Alcaravan III with laminated wood, the first Bruce Farr to be built in Spain. The festive day this Friday, which includes a cocktail and a live musical performance, will be held from nine at night and will have a very notable absence, that of Don Rafael Olmedo Limeses, president of the club for more than 40 years , who died last February at the age of 99.

On November 19, after 16 days, 17 hours, 47 minutes and 8 seconds sailing alone aboard the Tales II, Pella victoriously entered the port of Point-á-Pitre (Guadeloupe) and won one of the most important regattas in the world. , the Route du Rhum. Baiona, July 26, 2015.- Intense fog and little wind marked the third stage of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which began to be held last Friday under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club and sponsored by SabadellGallego and Storax. .

After a first day in which the ORC 1, 2, and 3 classes competed, and a second for the ORC 4 class, and the one-design J80 and Fígaros, this Sunday all the boats entered in the championship went out on the water. The weather conditions prevented the two scheduled tests from being held and the boats had to compete for victory in a single regatta that began after half past two in the afternoon.

It was a fast and exciting test, with a windward-leeward technical course of about six and a half miles in the Vigo estuary, to the east of the Cíes Islands. Two upwind and two stern that the crews sailed with a fair wind of an average of 8 knots and some peaks of 10.

In the ORC 0-1 class, the Aceites Abril, which had won on the first day, once again demonstrated its power on the water. The brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, won the race held today and managed to win gold in their category. The silver and bronze remained in Monte Real. In today’s stage, the ORC 4 class boats, and the J80 and Fígaros monotypes competed for a route that began at eleven in the morning in the Bay of Baiona and ended around half past four in the the Cies. The crews had to leave Carallones and La Negra behind to go up to Camouco, in Las Ons, and turn around to the finish line. In total, 28 miles of distance from which a double score came out: a first result based on the route of the climb and a second including the total distance.

In the ORC 4 class the victory went to Enxuto, from the Galway Bay Sailing Club. Skippered by Pablo Conde, the crew achieved victory in the two contested races and placed first overall in its category. Second and third place go to Margem do Azul III, from the Monte Real Club de Yates, with Frederico Lópes at the helm; and for the Rui Peixoto smoker, from the DFH Guimaraes.

The J80 one-design competition was, without a doubt, one of the most exciting parts of the regatta, due to how close it was. The boats competed in real time and sailed closely together for much of the course. Rodrigo Alonso’s Náutico Cormorán and Jacobo Vecino’s Mi Moneda fought hard for victory. The Mi Moneda, from the Monte Real Yacht Club, won the first test, and those from the Cormorant Club in the second. Finally the victory went to Rodrigo Alonso’s men, who left the provisional silver to Mi Moneda, and the bronze to Luna Nueva of Juan Luis Tuero, also from Monte Real.

In the Figaros category, the Erizana boat, skippered by Carlos Hernández, and with a crew made up of students from the Monte Real Sailing School, won both races and placed first. Second and third place went, respectively, to Genoveva Pereiro’s Bouvento and Victor Calviño’s Silleiro, both from the Baiona club.

Today’s stage was developed with ideal conditions for navigation, with sun, good sea and a wind of about 14 knots on average.

Tomorrow the podium of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy will be decided

The Conde de Gondomar Trophy – SabadellGallego Grand Prix ends tomorrow, Sunday, with the last two tests of the competition, which will be held from midday at the Cíes Islands anchorage. There will be two windward-leeward routes.

The expertise and good work of the sailors in the different maneuvers will determine the final result and define the general classification of the trophy. After a day of competition for the ORC 1, 2 and 3 classes and a second for the ORC 4 class and the J80 and Fígaros monotypes, all the boats will go to sea on the last day of the Count of Gondomar.

Once the regattas are over, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host, starting at six in the afternoon, the awards ceremony for the winners.

Baiona, July 25, 2015 .- The Corsair VI, skippered by Javier Durán, won the Spanish Storax Height Championship this morning, played as part of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy – Sabadell Gallego Grand Prix. Wearing a necklace from the Club de Mar de Vilagarcía, the boat holds provisional gold in the ORC 2 class and leads the competition overall.

In second position, with the provisional silver, is the Aceites Abril, owned by the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo; and third place goes to Pairo 8, from the Monte Real Club de Yates, with Luis Bugallo at the helm. These two boats are also first and second, respectively, in the ORC 0-1 class, in which the Castrosúa ranks third.

In the category of the ORC 2, after the Corsair VI, are the Bosch Service Solutions of the Club Marítimo de Canido, skippered by Ramón Ojea; and the Zamoranos from DKV Seguros, led by Juan Carlos de Ana.

Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bisse, with the Yate Club do Porto’s gable, is first in the ORC 3 class, followed by Luis Manuel García Trigo’s Unus, and Unai Basurko’s Pottoka.

The Conde de Gondomar Trophy- Sabadell Gallego Grand Prix continues this Saturday with a circumnavigation of the Ons Islands archipelago that will be contested, starting at 11 in the morning, by the ORC 4 class boats and the J80 and Fígaros monotypes.
