Tomorrow, Saturday, starting at three in the afternoon, the second day of the J80 one-design trophy organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates will be held

· The Miudo de Afonso Leite of the Portuguese club We Do Sailing and the Cansino of Fernando Yáñez del Monte Real lead the classification tied on points

· The weather forecast announces good wind conditions for the celebration of the three tasks that the regatta committee has planned

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Infinitus Rent Trophy returns to Baiona with the Portuguese from Miudo and the Galicians from Cansino tied on points at the top of the standings. The J80 one-design competition organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club will live its second day starting at three in the afternoon in the bay of Baiona with a weather forecast that is perfect for haggling.

If the forecasts are fulfilled, the wind of between 6 and 10 knots from the north component will allow the celebration of the three tasks planned by the regatta committee. Three windward-leeward courses with which the boats that are in the lead will try to widen the gap with the rest of the fleet.

After the two opening races, Miudo and Cansino, with Afonso Leite and Fernando Yáñez leading the crews, were placed at the top of the standings, with 5 points each. Rosario García’s La Galera sailboat from A Coruña is third with 9 points, and close behind are Miguel Lago’s Virazón and Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva with 10 and 11 points respectively.

In tenth place in the classification is Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, one of the boats that is expected to climb positions on this second day, after having lost steam on the first due to a disqualification.

The countdown begins for the II Baiona Angra Atlantic Race

> PRE – ANNOUNCEMENT OF RACE (ES)

> PROVISIONAL NOTICE OF RACE

> ANNONCE PROVISOIRE DE RÉGATE (FR)

· The Monte Real Club de Yates (Galicia) and the Angra Iate Clube (Açores) announce the celebration of the second edition of the regatta and open the registration period

· The ocean competition of more than 1,700 miles of route will depart on July 1 from the fishing village of Baiona bound for Angra do Heroismo

· A maximum of 20 boats will be able to compete in a test that in its first edition (2016) was won by the Portuguese Xekmatt of the Lisbon Naval Association

· The sports program of the II Baiona Angra Atlantic Race will also offer a wide social and tourist agenda for the participating crews

Two years after the celebration of its first edition, the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race returns, one of the few ocean regattas organized from Spain, born in 2016 by the Monte Real Club de Yates (Galicia) and the Angra Iate Clube (Açores).

Both clubs have just announced today the opening of the registration period to participate in the second edition, which already has a date, and which will depart from Baiona (Galicia – Spain) to Angra do Heroismo (Açores – Portugal) on the 1st of July.

The competition, in which a maximum of 20 boats with a minimum length of 10 meters and a complete crew may participate, will maintain the scheme with which it was born. It will include two stages, round trip, of about 865 miles each.

In total, more than 1,700 miles and quite a challenge for the most adventurous sailors, who will not only have to face their rivals but, above all, face the harsh conditions of the Atlantic, fatigue, tiredness, lack of sleep or the ship’s own conditions, in which they will spend many days in a very small space and without seeing any land around.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting events to be held in 2018, under the organization of one of the most emblematic clubs on the Spanish nautical scene, the Monte Real Club de Yates.

Recognized for having organized several editions of the Lymington-Baiona, several European and World Championships and numerous Match Race regattas, the Baiona club currently stands out for its historic Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias, which it has held uninterruptedly for more than thirty years.

A great sporting and social event for which the registration period is now open

Along with the sports program, one of the great attractions of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race is its extensive social agenda, which includes the celebration of various events for the enjoyment of the crews.

The sailors will be able to participate in meals, parties, excursions and tourist visits in Galicia and Açores. They will also have free moorings in both Baiona and Angra do Heroismo.

To register for the competition, owners or skippers should contact the Monte Real Club de Yates, writing an email to secretaria@mrcyb.com or calling (+34) 986 385 000.

The registration period, limited to a maximum of 20 boats, will remain open until June 1, with 25 percent discounts on fees for those who register before March 1.

The Portuguese boats stood out in the first edition

The Xekmatt of the Lisbon Naval Association, skippered by José Carlos Prista from Cascal in the initial stage and Hugo Prista in the final, won the first edition of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race.

The Portuguese also set the record for the Angra do Heroismo-Baiona crossing, after being the fastest to complete it.

Other protagonists of the first edition of Baiona Angra were Cleopatra, also Portuguese, from the Asociación Nautica de Recreio, and Free Spirit, from the Real Club Marítimo de Abra–Real Sporting Club, who won silver and bronze respectively.

Also outstanding was the performance of the Saint Maxime del Monte Real Club de Yates, with Miguel Lago at the helm, awarded as the best boat of the first stage.

Portuguese victory at the premiere of the Infinitus Rent Trophy

· The Portuguese crew of the Miudo of the We Do Sailing club won the first day of the Infinitus Rent Trophy that was held in Baiona

· El Cansino by Fernándo Yáñez del Monte Real and La Galera by Rosario García from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña were placed in second and third position

· The Monte Real Yacht Club Winter League lived up to its name and offered a typical winter day with leaden skies, cold and rain

The Miudo of the We Do Sailing club, skippered by the Portuguese Afonso Leite, scored the first podium of the Infinitus Trophy this Saturday in Baiona after winning on the opening day of the championship organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.

The Winter League of the Baiona club lived up to its name and presented itself to the J80 fleet with a typical winter day, with leaden skies, cold and rain. Despite the unfavorable conditions, the sailors came out wanting to make their debut in the first regatta of the year, and the committee forced, with considerable difficulty, the celebration of two tasks, in which a very shifty and low-intensity wind prevailed.

With the two courses shortened in the second passage through the windward buoy, the fleet achieved very different results. The first heat was won by Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino, skippered today by the former two-time Galician vaurien champion, Castor Alonso. In the second baton the crew lost some steam and finished fourth, finally falling to second place overall.

The victory of the second round was signed by the Portuguese Miudo, with a victory that, added to the fourth place achieved in the first round, gave them the provisional gold of the championship. The bronze went to the J80 La Galera, skippered by Rosario García, from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña.

Miguel Lago’s Virazón, who returned to the J80 competitions in Baiona after several months racing in the 6m class, is in fourth place and very close to him, just one point away, is Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva .

Completing the Monte Real Winter League classification are the Meltemi by Guillermo Blanco, the Pazo de Cea by María Campos, the Namasté by Luis de Mira and the Marina Real by Joaquin Cobelo. Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who had finished the tests in second position, fell to tenth place after the resolution of a protest against him.

Below him, Yago González-Robatto’s Cormorant II, Francisco J. Martínez’s SND Cormorant, Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo, Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes and Manuel Maria Cunha’s Marías.

The Infinitus Rent Trophy returns to Baiona at the end of the month, with the second day of tests on Saturday, January 25.

The 2018 sailing season loosens moorings with the Infinitus Rent Trophy

  • The Monte Real Club de Yates inaugurates the regatta season with a six-day championship in which the J80 monotypes will compete exclusively
  • The Infinitus Rent Trophy tests will take place from next weekend until the end of March in the waters of the Bay of Baiona
  • The Monte Real Winter League is the first of the 15 competitions that the club has scheduled in its 2018 sports calendar

The 2018 sailing season loosens its moorings this weekend in Baiona with the celebration of the Infinitus Rent Trophy, the traditional winter league of the Monte Real Club de Yates in which, for yet another year, sailboats of the class will once again compete exclusively J80.

For six days, on January 13 and 27, February 10 and 24, and March 10 and 24, the monotypes will compete, at various points in the bay of Baiona, a series of windward-leeward routes that will be designed by a regatta committee with Fernando Giraldo in front.

Carrying a maximum crew weight of 350 kilos on board, the J80s will sail in a fleet and compete in real time. The fortnightly scores will be added to the final classification from which the winner of the championship will come out.

In the previous edition of the Monte Real Winter League, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen was the winner, haggling with his usual crew, made up of Diego Fernández, Jaime de la Gándara and Hugo Ferreiro; and sentenced the competition with fourteen first places in the sixteen contested races.

Second place went to the Miudo by Storax, a boat with a Portuguese accent through which several crews passed; and the bronze for Miguel Lago’s Virazón, another of the regulars on the podiums of J80 competitions in Galicia.

The J80 Class Winter League of the Monte Real Yacht Club is sponsored this year by Infinitus Rent, a company born from the merger of four technological renting marketing companies in Spain. With more than 7 years of experience in the sector and an annual turnover of around 12 million euros, Infinitus Rent presents itself as an opportunity for investors who want to obtain optimal profitability in the medium term.

At the press conference to present the trophy, held this morning in Baiona, the Business Development Director of Infinitus Rent, Alberto Rodríguez, assured that “The healthy competitiveness that exists in the world of sailing is an example of how to act in the world of sports, and a philosophy -he said- extrapolated to numerous aspects of the company ”. It was these values that, he affirmed, led them to support two of the Monte Real proposals: the J80 Class Winter League and the Solidarity Vertiathlon, with which the club raises funds for its Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities.

The president and vice president of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza also participated in the presentation; the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; the territorial secretary of the Xunta de Galicia in Vigo, Yolanda Lesmes; and the president of the Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde.

The first of the 15 competitions of the 2018 season

The Infinitus Rent Trophy is the first of the 15 competitions that the Monte Real Club de Yates has scheduled in its 2018 sports calendar. Among the most important events on this schedule, it is worth mentioning the Spanish Championship of the J80 class, which will be held at the end of April as part of the traditional Repsol Trophy.

Also noteworthy is the return of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, and the celebration, once again, of two of the most important sailing events in Spain, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy and the Prince of Asturias Trophy. The delivery of the National Sailing Awards, the Galician Solo and Two-handed Championship or the Solidarity Vertiathlon are other events that Monte Real will organize for another year in Baiona.

Calendar MRCYB 2018

  • Among the 15 scheduled sports events is the J80 Spanish Championship that Monte Real will organize at the end of April in Baiona
  • The historic Baiona club returns in 2018 to international regattas with the second edition of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race ocean race
  • The Prince of Asturias Trophy, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, the National Sailing Awards or the Solidarity Vertiathlon are other scheduled events
  • The club will continue promoting sailing training for another year through its Sailing School and its Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities

The Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona has just presented its sports calendar for 2018, an intense agenda that includes 15 nautical competitions at the highest level, which will be held in the Rías Baixas de Galicia from this January until next month of November.

Among the most important events, it is worth highlighting the Spanish Championship of the J80 class , which the Baionese club will organize by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation at the end of April. There will be 4 days of competition that will bring together the highlights of the Spanish nautical scene in the bay of Baiona. The event will be part of the celebration of one of the most classic regattas of Monte Real, the Repsol Trophy , which this year celebrates its forty-first edition.

Another novelty of the Baiona club for this new year is the return of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race , the oceanic regatta that Monte Real promoted by the hand of the Angra Iate Clube in 2016 and that in July 2018 will experience its second edition. The competition scheme will be the same, with more than 1,700 miles of route divided into two tests, one going between Baiona and Angra do Heroismo (Ilha Terceira – Açores) and a second and last one back to Baiona.

July will also be the month of historical Count of Gondomar Trophy , which will be Spanish Height Championship and which will include, as usual, one of the most attractive sailing events in Galicia, the Baiona – Fisterra – Baiona route, over 100 miles long, rounding the mythical Carrumeiro Chico lighthouse

The first weekend of September will be the turn of the Prince of Asturias Trophy , considered one of the three great regattas currently held in Spain, and in which King Emeritus Don Juan Carlos has been participating for years. As on previous occasions, the competition, now in its thirty-third edition, will include the delivery of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards .

The 2018 Monte Real calendar also includes the celebration of the Galician Solitaire Championship and Dos – IV Rafael Olmedo Memorial , a medium-distance regatta in which the participants will test their strength competing alone or with the help of a single crew member. board. It will be held in June, sharing the month with the II Ria de Vigo Interclub Regatta .

In addition to the competitions open to different classes, the Monte Real has several exclusive regattas scheduled for some specific classes, such as the J80 or 6m monotypes. The former will be able to compete, in addition to the Spanish Championship, in the Infinitus Rent Trophy, which starts next week, and in the J80 Class Autumn League , which will be held from October.

The Comunica Trophy in April and a Radio Control Regatta in October are other appointments at Monte Real, which has also scheduled several tests for the youngest sailors, whom we will see compete in the Baitra Light Sailing Trophy and in the Final of the Baitra Social League MRCYB .

Beyond the competition, the historic club from Baiona will continue promoting, one more year, sailing training in Galicia through its Sailing School, in which light sailing and cruiser sailing classes are taught; and its Adapted Sailing School, in which people with some type of disability sail throughout the year, and for which it will once again organize, for the fourth consecutive year, the Solidarity Vertiathlon , next September 15.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Dear partners and friends,

Once again I want to take advantage of these days to send you, on behalf of the Board of Directors that I am honored to preside over, our best wishes for this Christmas and the greatest success for the year 2018.

2017 has been a year of growing activity in the different areas of Monte Real, both at a sporting and social level. Likewise, we have had the opportunity to increase our presence at a national and international level through the different events led by our Club.

I want to show my gratitude and that of the entire Board of Directors to those who, with their commitment, support and work, have made it possible; and dedicate a very special mention to all the employees who, once again, have spared no effort.

My recognition also goes to all the sailors who have shown their high level of preparation in the different competitions held. And in this sense, I would like to emphasize the work carried out by our coaches at the Sailing School, and above all, at the Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities.

I would not like to forget the sponsors, both private and institutional, who, with their invaluable support, allow us to continue advancing in the promotion of such an extraordinary sport as sailing. From here, thank you very much. And thanks also to the media that, throughout the year, make visible each and every one of the activities we carry out.

Finally, the most endearing memory for the families of those friends who have left us throughout this year.

Merry Christmas!

Jose Luis Alvarez Vazquez

President of the MRCYB

And what better way to say goodbye to the year than reviewing with you some of the best moments that this 2017 has left us, which is about to end…

Great moments in all the regattas and events that we have organized…

Great moments with all of you who have stopped by the club…

Great moments at our MRCYB Sailing School…

…and great moments watching our students excel in the water.

And next year… more and better!
