Sailing activities at sunset or sailing to the Cíes Islands are aimed at a more familiar audience or groups of friends

The Monte Real Club de Yates has just launched its summer sailing campaign, which includes six proposals with which children and adults can learn to sail and enjoy the sea in Baiona during the months of July, August and September.

For the youngest members of the household, aged between 7 and 16, the Baionese club organizes Weekly light sailing courses , in the morning or afternoon, so that children can have a first contact with sailing or improve their technique with different types of boats if they already know how to sail.

There are also Day Sailing Camps for them, somewhat more complete than the weekly courses, since they include more hours of sailing, both in the morning and in the afternoon, and food service. It is a proposal aimed above all at those families who find it somewhat more difficult to reconcile during the summer and want their children to enjoy and learn in a relaxed atmosphere.

For those over 16 years of age, Monte Real offers weekly cruising sailing courses , also with the option to choose a morning or afternoon schedule. Always accompanied by a coach from the club, with these courses the students learn to sail in the calm waters of the bay of Baiona and end up going out to the open sea to perfect their knowledge on board the sailboat.

And for those who want to learn to sail but do not have a week to attend the course, Monte Real also offers Courses to learn to sail in one day . During a day, from morning to afternoon, the participants will be able to learn the basic maneuvers to handle a boat.

Sailing to the Cíes Islands or at sunset are other proposals from the Monte Real Yacht Club for this summer, aimed above all at families or groups of friends who want to enjoy sailing while learning sailing concepts.

In the case of Sailing to the Cíes Islands, it is a one-day activity, from eleven in the morning to seven in the evening, which includes a sailing trip to the archipelago during which you learn to sail and disembark on the island to eat and have a guided visit to the natural park.

Between July and September there is also the possibility of Sunset Sailing , an activity with which to discover the keys to handling a sailing vessel as the day falls. It lasts three hours and will be offered from July to September.

There are six proposals for the summer season with which the Monte Real Yacht Club wants to bring the world of sailing closer to all those who want to learn about this sport, improve their practice or simply enjoy sailing along the Vigo estuary.

To receive more information or reserve a place in any of the activities, you can call 986 385 000 or write an email to secretaria@mrcyb.com .

The lack of wind leaves the Galician Championship of A Dos deserted

· After the wind fell a few miles from the finish, none of the boats that participated in the competition could finish it on time

· The sailboats sailed much of the end of the route driven by just one or two knots of wind

Bosch Service Solutions was just a mile short of being the first to cross the finish line when the time limit ran out

The lack of wind left the Galician Two-Handed Championship – Prima Vinia Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and dedicated to its president for more than 40 years, Don Rafael Olmedo, deserted this Saturday.

After falling into a windless hole a few miles from the finish, none of the boats that were competing for the title was able to finish the race within the time limit, so the title of Galician champion of two was left undelivered.

This Saturday’s was, without a doubt, a complicated regatta for the sailboats, not only because of the fact of sailing with reduced crews, but above all because of the wind, which met the forecasts and complicated the test in a good part of the 22 miles of route.

In the first part of the test, heading to Ons, the Costa de la Vela became a fatal point for the boats that chose a course closer to land, where they found a difficult exit hole, which forced the Yess Too to leave.

Luckier were the sailboats that opted for a more outward course, where they were able to pick up the wind and climb up to Camouco, with Iago Carrera and Edu Reguera’s Bosch Service Solutions being the first to turn it around and return.

The return was complicated and long past the island of Onza, with a new well that grouped the fleet and made them sail for more than six miles with between one and two knots of wind, which prevented them from crossing the finish line before the fixed time limit. The one that came closest to crossing it was Bosch Service Solutions, which was less than a mile from the end when its time ran out.

The Galician Solitaire and Two-Handed Championship – Inserimos Trophy – V Rafael Olmedo Memorial ended at the Monte Real Yacht Club with a seafood dinner for the participants. The championship prizes could not be given, which will be repeated on a date yet to be decided.

The event was attended by the president of the organizing club, José Luis Álvarez; the manager of Prima Vinia, Milton Fernández, as sponsor of the event; and the president of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde.

After the test, the Monte Real Club de Yates has its sights set on two of its star regattas of the 2019 season, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which will be held from July 25 to 28; and the Prince of Asturias Trophy; set for September 6, 7 and 8.

Previously, the club from Baiona will close the seasons of the Adapted Sailing School, with the delivery of diplomas to the students on June 18; and the Dinghy Sailing School, with the celebration of the Baitra Social League Final, on June 22 and 23.

The Rías Baixas host this Saturday the Galician Championship of A Dos

· More than twenty sailboats will compete this Saturday in the Galician Two-handed Championship – Prima Vinia Trophy in the Rías Baixas

The difficulties in completing the 30-mile test without a support crew have left the solo category deserted for another year

· The weather forecasts announce a complicated day due to the low wind that will force the sailors to do their best

MRCYB – MAY 2019

April, Okofen and Bouvento oils, winners of the Repsol Trophy

· The Aceites Abril of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo prevailed among the big boats by achieving victory in the joint category of the ORC

· The sailboat from Ourenses Pérez Canal was also the best in ORC 1 and in ORC 2 the victory went to Unus del Monte Real Club de Yates

Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen won the J80 Monotype LusoGalaica Cup and Bouvento won the Figaros competition

· The next appointments with the Monte Real regattas are the Baitra Dinghy Sailing Trophy and the Galician Solo and Two-handed Championship

The forty-second edition of the traditional Spring Regatta of the Monte Real Club de Yates ended with great success in participation and the greatest rivalry on the water, which once again became the Repsol Trophy thanks to the sponsorship of the energy company.

After three days of competition, with two coastal regattas and three windward-leeward routes disputed, the high quality of the participating fleet left a fairly tight final classification in some classes, although there were certain crews who knew how to solve better and managed to stand out from the rest.

One of them was clearly that of Aceites Abril , with the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal at the helm. After seeing the title in danger on the second day, in which Bosch overtook them, this Sunday they managed to sentence the competition masterfully solving the last race in dispute and pocketing all the titles they could aspire to.

Ourenses finished the Repsol Trophy as the best in their class, ORC 1, and also the best in the joint classification of ORC 1 and 2. The crew received the grand prize of the championship from Repsol’s Deputy Director of Marine and Fisheries, Carlos Sánchez, who was accompanied on stage by the president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez.

In the ORC 1 class, Aceites Abril , with 8 points, won over Bosch Service Solutions , from Canido; and the Santorum & Martínez Group , from Riveira, who were second and third respectively, with 10 and 15 points.

Less close was the first position of the ORC 2, in which the gold went to the hands of Luis García Trigo’s Unus who, wearing a pendant from the Monte Real Club de Yates, signed four first places in the four contested races. He was, without a doubt, the best in the competition, finishing with 4 points. The silver and the bronze, with 12 and 15 points, went to Victor Álvarez’s Nahela (Club Deportivo Alagua) and Fernando Rey’s Albarellos (CN Portonovo).

The other clear victory of the trophy was in the J80 class, in which this year there was a new title at stake, the J80 Luso-Galaica Monotype Cup. The a priori favorite did not disappoint and Javier de la Gándara took Okofen to the top of the table with 5 points. The Repsol Marine and Fisheries Manager, Inés González Megido, was in charge of presenting the crew with the prize for the best 8-meter monodesign. Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino , with 18 and 22 points, were second and third.

Finally, in the Figaro class, the winner of the 42nd Monte Real Spring Regatta was Luis Alcázar’s Bouvento , who finished the races with 5 points, after winning 3 of the 4 races held. The Ladeira of the Baionesa Genoveva Pereiro and the Serralleiras of the Madrilenian Elena Raga completed the winners’ podium.

After the celebration of the Repsol Trophy, the Monte Real Club de Yates is now preparing for its next competitions, which will be held in the coming weeks. On the weekend of May 25 and 26, the appointment is for basic sailing in Galicia, with the Baitra Light Sailing Trophy , in which young sailors from different community clubs will compete. And a weekend later, the first of June, the Monte Real will host the fifth edition of the Rafael Olmedo Memorial , which will once again be the Galician Solitaire and Two-Handed Championship .

Second day of the Repsol Trophy – Photo © Rosana Calvo

Intense second day of the Repsol Trophy of the Monte Real Yacht Club that has been held in the waters of the Vigo estuary since last Wednesday. This Saturday, in the second stage, the sailboats that compete for the title showed that they are going for it all and after two new tests, they left the provisional classifications very tight.

Despite the difficulties with the wind, which did not blow as much as expected, and which at times slowed down and even left part of the fleet stagnant, the regatta committee was able to complete the two races it had on the programme: a windward-leeward and a coastal tour.

Aceites Abril continues to lead the ORC 1 – Photo © Rosana Calvo

In the competition for the largest boats, the ORC 1, the Pérez Canal brothers’ Aceites Abril is still in the lead with 7 points, but Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions closed the gap today and was just one point behind the Ourenses.

Canido’s ship also managed to snatch the first position of the joint general of ORC 1 and 2. Julio Rodríguez’s Starfighter climbed to third place on the provisional ORC 1 podium today, another of the clear contenders for the final victory.

In the ORC 2 class, with the same tests as the ORC 1, Luis García Trigo’s Unus, from the Monte Real Club de Yates, proved intractable once again. He has three victories in the three contested races and except for last minute surprises, he has all the ballots to win. The Nahela de A Guarda, with Victor Álvarez at the controls, rose today from third to second position; and closes the provisional podium the Albarellos of Fernando Rey, from Portonovo.

In the J80 competition, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen reaffirmed his good work on the water and the results obtained on this second day, with a first in the barlosota and a second in the coastal, allow him to keep his aspirations intact to achieve the title of the J80 Monotype Luso-Galaica Cup, which is held for the first time as part of the Repsol Trophy. Quite a distance from the first, Namasté by Luis de Mira and Cansino by Fernándo Yáñez occupy the second and third positions.

In the Figaro class, which like the J80 competes in real time, there are two boats that remain in the fight for the title after signing the best results today. They are Luis Alcázar’s Bouvento, which will reach the last day in first position after having achieved first and second place today; and the Ladeira of the vice-commodore of Monte Real Genoveva Pereiro, who this Saturday signed a great day and rose to second place. Feeding his illusion to get on one of the boxes of the final podium, Miguel Montes’ Silleiro continues in third position.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the last two tests of the competition will be held, two windward and leeward at the Cíes anchorage that will finish defining the winners’ podium. It will be from noon and in the afternoon, at the Monte Real Club de Yates, the awards ceremony will be held for the winners.
