The Prince of Asturias Trophy crowns the winners of its 34th edition

· The winners of the event in Baiona are Yess Too, Bosch Service Solutions, Raygrass III, Albarellos, Bombastic, Salseiro, Miña Miniña, Bribon 500 Movistar, Stella, Okofen and ¡HOLA! fashion

· After the first two stages with very good conditions, the wind complicated the last day of the regatta, in which only five of the eleven classes in contention were able to compete

· The award ceremony put an end to the most massive edition of one of the most important regattas on the national cruise calendar organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar

A historic Prince of Asturias Trophy ends in Baiona. The event, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar with the sponsorship of ABANCA, today completed the third and last day of its thirty-fourth edition. A record edition that managed to bring together more than 80 boats and nearly 500 sailors in the bay. The winners of the eleven categories in contention were awarded at the trophy ceremony that put an end to the dispute of the last tests in the water.

Yess Too comes from behind to take the victory in Martin Miller ORC 0-1

Exciting finale of the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy for Martin Miller ORC’s fleet 0-1. With about six knots of north-westerly wind, the Committee was able to complete a final windward-leeward format test that turned out to be definitive. Rui Ramada’s Yess Too, who was fifth overall yesterday, won today’s race with total authority, which allowed the local team to add another victory this season after the victory obtained at the Conde de Gondomar.

Behind, and tied on points with those of Ramada, the second place went to Marias-Casas do Telhado of Manuel María Cunha, who also sails under the banner of MRCYB, while the podium this time was closed by Pairo 8 of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, armed by José Luis Freire and with Alberto Basadre at the helm on this last day.

New triumph and final victory for Bosch Service Solutions in Oils April ORC 2

There have been no changes in the general of Aceites Abril ORC 2. Today, Sunday, the fleet also completed a final leg in which Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions was once again the best, claiming its fifth partial victory in the five races held. With these results, and having had a perfect weekend, the team from the Club Marítimo de Canido sealed today the final victory with a six-point advantage over the second-placed team, the Asturian Antílope-Lener led by José Luis Alcuso. The third position was occupied in this case by Francisco Edreira’s Cachete, from the La Penela Maritime Club.

Triumph at Gadis ORC 3 for the Raygrass III

Another category that was able to sail today was the Gadis ORC 3. Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III, which sails for the Club Marítimo Carrumeiro, finished fourth in this last race, but managed to secure victory in the 34th Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias with a three-point lead over Luis Suárez’s Maracana I from Vigo, who was second. Behind, the third place was finally for the local Fend-La-Bise of Jean Claude Serrade. The last victory up for grabs in this class was awarded to Jacobo Solorzano’s Bunda, fifth overall.

Albarellos, Bombastic and Salseiro, winners in Volvo Autesa ORC 4-5, Engel & Völkers ORC Open and SH Robotic ORC Open Extra

Meanwhile, on the ORC 4-5 and Open race course, the Regatta Committee gave the start for a new coastal regatta, but the wind did not blow strongly enough and only the Open Extra division managed to finish the course.

Thus, the winner in the Volvo Autesa ORC 4-5 category is the local Albarellos of Fernando Rey, ahead of the two representatives of the Club Náutico Beluso: the Santiago Roma Rías Baixas and the Chispa Nejra of José Rey, second and third respectively.

In Engel & Völkers ORC Open, a category in which the inclusive boat Axa Seguros from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School participated, with the support of the insurer and the Department of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, the victory was won this year the Bombastic of the MRCYB of César Casqueiro ahead of the representative of the RCNV skippered by Antonio Gaona, the Piccola, and of the Lacazán of Mariano Benavente, who also sails under the banner of the Baion club.

In SH Robotic ORC Open Extra, the winner of the Prince of Asturias Trophy is Manuel Blanco’s Salseiro, from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña. Behind, the Jandrocho Team of the Club Náutico San Adrián with Roberto Reboredo in front finished second while the Fresgarrido of Ernesto Pérez, who achieved the partial victory of the day, was third overall.

In Storax Clásicos, victory for Miña Miniña

Only the Miña Miniña was able to complete the five-mile coastal course today in the Storax Clásico class. The AGABACE ship skippered by Fabián Garrido sentenced the general and proclaimed itself the winner of the appointment jointly organized by Monte Real and the Naval Military School. Xosé Avelino Ochoa’s Sara O was finally second overall and Javier Alonso’s Papaleisso completed the podium in third position.
Bribon 500 Movistar and Stella, winners in Infinitus Rent 6m Classics and 6m Open

Difficult day in the regatta field of the Infinitus Rent 6m fleet. The wind did not come to its appointment in the bay today and the Regatta Committee could not give the Warning signal for any of the two scheduled races, so yesterday’s results became final.

In the Classics division, victory therefore went to the Bribon 500 Movistar of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, skippered on this occasion by Pedro Campos in the absence of King Juan Carlos. The Campos crew did not give their rivals a chance, scoring the two victories up for grabs yesterday, so the current world and European champion of the class was proclaimed the winner of the Prince of Asturias ahead of Mauricio Sánchez Bella’s Titia and Aida de Francisco Botas, second and third respectively.
On the other hand, the victory in the Open division went to Stella de Violeta Álvarez, also from the RCNS, with a first and second place in her locker. Behind, just one point behind Álvarez’s team, Patrik Monteiro’s Seljm seals the championship in second position and Eugenio Galdón’s Maybe XIV closes the final podium in third place.

Javier de la Gándara wins in Solventis J80 with Okofen

New victory for Javier de la Gándara in the waters of Baiona. Okofen, who started the competition in third place overall, climbed to the top of the podium yesterday by sealing a perfect second day with three partial victories. Today, Sunday, the lack of wind prevented the scheduled tests from being held, so the team led by de la Gándara was proclaimed the winner of the thirty-fourth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy. Behind, the second place was definitively occupied by Miudo de Diogo Costa and third place was finished by Pazo de Cea de Cristina González Cominges. The three teams representing the MRCYB.

Victory for the HELLO! Fashion at the prestigious ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup

There was also no testing today for the fleet of the HELLO! Ladies Cup, resulting in the HELLO! Fashion by Pilar Casares after leading the general classification from the first day of the regatta. From behind, the podium of the prestigious women’s competition was completed by HELLO! Serralleiras from the Portuguese crew led by Marta Ramada in second place – who defended the victory of the two previous editions – and the HELLO! Silleiro by Anna Sole Dolcet in the third drawer.

With this, there are now 23 editions in which the Monte Real Club de Yates and ¡HOLA! They reaffirm their commitment to giving visibility to women in a sport that, to this day, continues to be predominantly male.

The awards ceremony, final touch for the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy

At 6:00 p.m., the awards ceremony for the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy was held in the village of Monte Real, putting an end to a new edition of one of the most important cruising sailing events at a national level.

In addition to awarding the winners of the respective categories, during the trophy ceremony the club also presented the special Mary Woodward award for the best J80 of the season, which went to Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen; the Count of Barcelona Juan de Borbón award for the best ship with a Portuguese crew, which went to the Yess Too of the Portuguese Rui Ramada; and the Juan Sebastián Elcano space trophy to the winners of the ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup, the HELLO! Fashion by Pilar Casares. For its part, the inclusive ship AXA Seguros, in which the students of the Juan María de Nigrán Center sail, also received a special mention at the closing ceremony.

After the premiere of five categories on the opening day, today, Saturday, eleven classes have taken to the water to compete in one of the most important regattas on the national cruise calendar

· In Solventis J80, Javier de la Gándara is today the leader of the general with Okofen and ¡HOLA! Fashion continues to lead the HELLO! Ladies Cup

Historic day at the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy. With the premiere of six new classes on this second day of competition, the event organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Escuela Naval Militar with the sponsorship of ABANCA broke its participation record today by exceeding 80 boats in the regatta field . In total, there are already eleven categories in contention and nearly 500 sailors who are competing this weekend for the victory of one of the most important regattas on the national scene.

In the absence of the third and last day of racing being completed tomorrow, Sunday, the provisional leaders are Maria-Casas do Telhado, Bosch Service Solutions, Raygrass III, Albarellos, Bombastic, Salseiro C, Miña Miniña, Bribon 500 Movistar, Stella, Okofen and HELLO! Fashion.

With the departure scheduled for 12:00 hours, the Race Committee of the largest boats did not have an easy time today to start the day’s tests. The wind was once again unstable, shifty and of very changing intensities since the beginning of the day, and the truth is that it was not until after 1:00 p.m. when the fleet was able to get under way to complete the first of the three routes of windward-leeward format.

In the Martin Miller ORC 0-1 category, the second day of the Príncipe de Asturias has caused a drastic turnaround in the general classification. With two seconds and one seventh in these last three races, Maria-Casas do Telhhado today took the lead in the general classification ahead of Diego López’s Mirfak, who now occupies second place, and Jorge Pérez Canal’s Aceites Abril , which assaults the podium placing itself in the third position. Pairo 8 and Yess Too, who were first and second respectively yesterday, are fourth and fifth overall today.

For its part, in the general classification of Aceites Abril ORC 2, Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions extends its advantage today at the top of the table after scoring the three partial victories put at stake. Behind, five points behind, José Luis Alcuso’s Antilope-Lener also remains in second place, while Francisco Edreira’s Cachhete is the one who closes the provisional class podium on this occasion.

The Gadis ORC 3 fleet also competed in three new tests, a category in which the leader continues to be Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III with two third and one fifth added to the partial victory scored yesterday. The second position, in this case, is for Luis Suárez’s Maracana I with a first, second and seventh place in the last three races and Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend-La-Bise climbs from eighth to third position with some partials 2-5-1. Another of the victories of the day was for Luis Manuel García’s Unus, who is fourth.

Meanwhile, today, Saturday, another three ORC divisions opened with a 14.5-mile coastal route and start and finish located in front of the bay, in the Carallóns area. Volvo Autesa ORC 4-5 was the first to start in this field after 12:30 p.m. and the victory went to Fernando Rey’s Albarellos, who became the leader of the general classification. They are followed by Iñaki Carbajo’s Santiago Roma Rías Baixas and José Rey Veiga’s Chispa Nejra in second and third position respectively.

At Engels & Völkers ORC Open, the winner of the day and provisional leader is César Fernández’s Bombastic. Behind, Antonio Gaona’s Piccola is currently in second place in the table and third place is occupied by Mariano Benavente’s Lacazan.

Also in this class competed today the inclusive boat Axa Seguros, a team made up of sailors with functional diversity from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School with the support of the insurer and the Department of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia.

In the case of the SH Robotic Open Extra class, the fleet completed a 14.5-mile coastal course in which Manuel Blanco’s Salseiro C was the winner. Behind, Ignacio Sánchez’s Txole is in second place overall and Roberto Reboredo’s Jandrocho Team is third.

The three boats that make up the Storax Clásico fleet completed, for their part, a course of almost nine miles with victory in corrected time for Fabián Garrido’s Miña Miniña. The first to cross the finish line in real time was Xosé Avelino Ochoa’s Sara O, a result that places him in second place overall ahead of Javier Alonso’s Papaleisso, who is third on the provisional podium.

Another of the fleets that debuted today in the Bay of Baiona was the majestic 6-meter. The regatta field offered wind conditions between 12 and 15 knots of intensity that allowed the Committee to give the start for the first two regatta tests.

In the category of Infinitus Rent 6m Clásicos, the Bribon 500 Movistar, which has had Pedro Campos at the helm in the absence of King Juan Carlos, was the clear leader of the day, scoring the two victories at stake and placing in the top of the provisional general. Behind, with two third places, the Titia of Mauricio Sánchez Bella occupies the second position and third is the Aida of Francisco Botas.

For her part, Violeta Álvarez’s Stella debuts in the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy as leader of the Infinitus Rent 6m Open class by adding a first and a second in her locker. Second place is occupied by Patrik Monteiro’s Seljm and third is Eugenio Galdón’s Maybe XIV.

In Solventis J80, I overturn in the general classification after the dispute of three new tests. Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen scored a full victories today that took them to the top of the table, relegating Diogo Costa’s Miudo to second position and five points behind the leader. The Pazo de Cea by Cristina Gonzáles Cominges also drops one position, closing the provisional podium in third place.

Where there have been hardly any changes is in the general HELLO! Ladies Cup. The fleet of the prestigious women’s competition completed two new tests this afternoon in which the HELLO! Fashion de Pilar Casares added a second and a first, results that keep the team as leaders of the general. From behind, it is also followed today by the HELLO! Serralleiras by Marta Ramada, while the third place is now occupied by ¡HOLA! Sileiro by Anna Sole Dolcet.

Everything to decide on the last day

Tomorrow, Sunday, the third and final day of the Prince of Asturias Trophy will be held with everything to be decided. If the wind allows it, each and every one of the eleven participating classes will jump back into the water to start the final day at 12:00 p.m., and it will be in the afternoon when the prizes will be awarded to the winners of the thirtieth fourth edition.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 8:00 p.m., the second day of regatta will end at the village of Monte Real Club de Yates with the delivery of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards

Great premiere in Baiona waters of the Prince of Asturias Trophy. The event, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Naval Military School with the sponsorship of ABANCA, started today with the dispute of the first tests for the classes Martin Miller ORC 0-1, Oils April ORC 2, Gadis ORC 3 , Solventis J80 and the prestigious HELLO! Ladies Cup. Pairo 8, Bosch Service Solutions, Raygrass III, Miudo and HELLO! Fashion are the first leaders of this thirty-fourth edition.

The day dawned calm, with fairly light wind conditions until finally, around 3:00 p.m. as planned, the Race Committee was able to give the warning signal for the three ORC divisions. It was not easy for the fleet, because during the 15-mile round trip between Baiona and Subrido (Cabo Home) the wind kept changing in terms of direction and intensity, although the north-northeast component between three and 12 knots in the different areas of the estuary.

Cruce del Marías and Aceites Abril, two of the favorites – Photo Eduardo Castro

An example of this was the case of the Yess Too in the Martin Miller ORC 0-1 class. Rui Ramada’s men dominated the first part of the route with authority until they found themselves in Cabo Home with a well of wind that again compressed the fleet until practically the finish line. Finally, the Yess Too was the first to finish the race and was second overall in corrected time behind the Pairo 8 of the owner José Luis Freire, who was the first leader of the day with Laureano Wizner at the helm. Maria-Casas do Telhado by Manuel María Cunha closes the podium in third place.

In Aceites Abril ORC 2, Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions is positioned at the head of the classification on this first day by completing the route in two hours and 56 minutes. Following in the general classification is José Luis Alcuso’s Asturian Antelope-Lener in second place and Milaneza, owned by Portuguese skipper Diogo Talone, who is third.

The third category to debut today at the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy was Gadis ORC 3, in which Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III was the winner ahead of Juan José Martínez’s La Burla Negra and Orion Javier Pérez, second and third respectively.

For its part, the Solventis J80 class started its competition program with the dispute of the first three tests in the regatta field. The wind did not make it easy for the Committee either, which had to move the field further out of the bay than expected in search of optimal conditions to start the competition.

At the top of the table, the top three finishers take advantage of the rest of the fleet and with only two points difference between the leader and the third. With partial 3-1-3, Diogo Costa’s Miudo is the first leader in the general standings ahead of Cristina González’s Pazo de Cea, which occupies second position with 4-2-2 results, and Javier’s Okofen de la Gándara, who made his debut today in third position after adding a fourth and two second places.

In the same regatta field as the J80 were the Figaros of the HELLO! Ladies Cup. With two first and one second in the three contested races, the HELLO! Fashion by Pilar Casares closes the day as the leader of the women’s competition with a total of four points. Behind, just two points, is followed by HELLO! Serralleiras of the Portuguese Marta Ramada in the second position with a third, a first and a second and the HELLO! of Laura Gil, who currently occupies third place overall with a second, a third and a fourth in her locker.

Inauguration of the village and seafood dinner to close the first day of regattas

Once the tests were finished, the activity continued in the village of the Monte Real Club de Yates. Sailors, skippers and shipowners were able to enjoy the great social and sporting atmosphere of the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy during the usual seafood dinner. Ambient music and a gin and tonic tasting by Martin Miller and Royal Bliss put the finishing touch to the first day of one of the most important events on the national cruise calendar.

Tomorrow, second day and presentation of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards

Tomorrow, Saturday, the action returns to the Monte Real Club de Yates starting at 12:00. After a first day in which the longest boats and two of the one-designs made their debut, the second assault will feature each and every one of the participating categories competing in the four established regatta fields.

The categories Volvo Autesa ORC 4-5, Engel&Volkers ORC Open, SH Robotics ORC Open Extra, Storax Classics and the Infinitus Rent 6m and 6m Formula will open their lockers tomorrow. It will be precisely the Open division that will have the participation of AXA Seguros, a team made up of sailors with functional diversity from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School thanks to the support of the insurer and the Department of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia.

At the end of the day, the presentation of the prestigious Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will take place in the village, in which the most outstanding sailors and teams of 2018 will be awarded. The gala will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will be followed by a seafood dinner an hour later and a new party night that will include music, gin and tonic tastings and fireworks to end the party at 11:00 p.m.

This year, the Monte Real Club de Yates joins the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Magellan and Elcano’s circumnavigation of the world with the delivery of a special award within the framework of the historic Prince of Asturias Trophy, which will be held starting tomorrow in Baiona.

The prize will be received by the crew that wins the pioneering HELLO! Ladies Cup, one of the most historic exclusively female nautical competitions in Spain, which in 2019 celebrates its twenty-third edition.

The Juan Sebastián Elcano Trophy, named in honor of the Spanish navigator who was the protagonist of one of the feats that changed the history of the world, is a bust of the Basque sailor made in lost-wax cast bronze by Antonio Miranda.

This initiative is part of a series of actions framed in the Commemoration of the V Centenary of the expedition of the first circumnavigation of Fernando de Magallanes and Juan Sebastián de Elcano that will be held during the next four years.

The first “around the entire roundness of the world” , in the words of Elcano himself, is considered one of the great feats in the history of humanity since, in addition to verifying that the earth was spherical and not just round, it represented great advances for the cartography, commerce or communications. The journey lasted from 1519 to 1522.

The HELLO! Ladies Cup is consolidated as a feminist bet

In a year in which several Spanish competitions have opted for women by creating sections for exclusively female participation, the ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup is consolidated as one of the trophies with more tradition and history in Spain. In this 2019 it turns 23 years old with the same philosophy with which it was created, that of giving visibility to women in a sport that, to this day, is still mostly male.

In this new edition, Spanish and Portuguese sailors will participate, for the most part, but on board the Figaros del Monte Real in which the participants will compete, Swiss, Italian and Slovenian accents will also be heard. And it is that the competition has been acquiring, over the years, international touches.

This year the title will be disputed by a team from the Club Náutic Sant Carles de la Rápita skippered by Anna Dolcet; another from the Real Club Náutico de Puerto Pollença, led by Pilar Casares; and two more from the Madrilenian Sailing Federation, with Laura Gil and Inés Zurita at the helm. We will also see the current champion, Marta Ramada, who will try to repeat the title for the third consecutive year; and a crew from the Naval Military School led by Lara Lagoa.

The countdown begins for the Prince of Asturias Trophy

The Monte Real Club de Yates lived with hustle and bustle this day prior to the start of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, in which the participating crews continued to arrive at their pontoons. The countdown has begun for the great sailing competition in Galicia and in Baiona boats such as the Pairo 8, the Aceites Abril or the Yess Too are ready to go out on the water tomorrow, three of the sailboats that repeat in the regatta year after year with firm aspirations to the title. They compete in the Martin Miller ORC 1 class with boats such as the Starfighter of the Julio Rodríguez (RCN Vigo), the Arroutado of José Manuel Pérez (RCN Portosín) or the Mirfak of Diego López, of the Naval Regatta Commission of the Navy, among others. .

In the Aceites Abril ORC 2 class, which will also go out to compete tomorrow Friday from three in the afternoon, we will see Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, Joao Tourigo’s Farofino, or Francisco Edreira’s Cachete. And in the Gadis ORC 3 class, Luis García Trigo’s Unus, Vicente Cid’s Deep Blue 2.0, Jacobo Solorzano’s Bunda and Jaime Núñez’s Raygrass III are some of the favorites.

Tomorrow, Friday, in addition to ORCs 1, 2 and 3 and the girls from the HELLO! Ladies Cup, also inaugurate the Solventis J80 class trophy, in which practically the entire Galician fleet will meet, including the recently winner of the regional champion title, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen.

New addition to the 6M fleet

The Prince of Asturias Trophy will mark the debut in competition in Spain of the Marina Combarro, formerly known as Cream, the latest boat to join the Spanish 6-meter fleet. The boat, armed and skippered by Jaime Alonso from Vigo, dates from 1979. It was designed by veteran Swedish naval architect Pelle Petterson, built in Sweden, and managed to win the 1979 World Championship and the 1980 European Championship.

It has recently been completely renovated and after participating in the European La Trinité, in France, this weekend it will be released in Galician waters.
The Marina Combarro will compete, among others, with the Bribón 500 Movistar, recent world champion in Finland in the 6 meter class, in which the Galician Pedro Campos will be on board. Another prominent Galician sailor, Miguel Lago, will take command of the Alibabá II; and Jaime Rodríguez-Toubes from Ferrol will do the same with the Armada 500. In the absence of closing the registration period, they have also confirmed their participation in the Baiona competition: Caprice by Íñigo Echenique, Maybe XIV by Eugenio Galdón; and Patrick Monteiro’s Seljm.

Beginning next Friday, Baiona will bring together some of the best crews on the Spanish nautical scene at the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy that the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Naval Military School are organizing for yet another year with the sponsorship of ABANCA.

During the three days that the competition will last, the Galician fishing village will be the epicenter of several regattas in which, pending the registration deadline, some 80 boats are expected to participate, which will bring together in the Rías Baixas more of 500 sailors from all over the peninsula.

Among them we will see King Juan Carlos who, recovered from his recent heart operation, has signed up to compete in the 6-meter class aboard the Bribón 500 with his usual crew, in which he will once again have Galician Pedro Campos as his right-hand man .

The 6 meters, grouped into the Infititus Rent and 6m Formula classes, will make up two of the 12 categories that this new edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy will feature, one of the most numerous to date in terms of classes, with a wide range of boats.

There will be a Martin Miller ORC 0-1 class, April Oils ORC 2, Gadis ORC 3, Volvo Autesa ORC 4, SH Robotic ORC 5, Engels & Volkers ORC Open and ORC Open Extra. We will see the latter in the HELLO! A Prince of Asturias Trophy that, in addition to being feminist, is committed to inclusion and youth. A boat will participate in the Open class, the AXA Seguros, in which, thanks to the support of the insurer and the Ministry of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, students with functional diversity from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School will sail. And this year also, as a novelty, the 6 meter class offers the possibility for crews to take on board, as a guest, a child under 15 years of age or less, in a clear commitment to the future of sailing for the new generations.

With these characteristics, the Prince of Asturias Trophy will raise the curtain next Friday in Baiona to stage three sports and festive days with a complete program that will alternate regattas with breakfasts, dinners, parties and fireworks.

On Friday, on the opening day, the large boats grouped into classes ORC 0, 1, 2 and 3 will go out on the water; the J80 and the girls of the HELLO! Ladies Cup. It will be from three in the afternoon. Previously, in the trophy village located in the gardens of Monte Real, Onda Cero Vigo will carry out several hours of live programming. And at night, once the regattas are over, a seafood dinner for the participants.

On Saturday the day will begin at noon, with a honk for all classes at twelve. The competition will take place in different regatta fields, both inside the bay of Baiona and in other points of the Vigo estuary, and at night the gala of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will be held.

After the gala of the National Sailing Awards, the subsequent dinner, fireworks and party; the crews will prepare for the last day, which will be held on Sunday from twelve noon. They will be the definitive tests to design the winners’ podiums and define some prizes that will be delivered that same day in the afternoon, starting at six o’clock at the Monte Real Club de Yates.

The Nauta 360 portal wins the National Sailing Award in the communication section

· The nautical portal of Unidad Editorial has been awarded the Mariano Aguado Prize for Communication at the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards

· Under the coordination of Héctor Atienza and Alberto Mas, it is one of the most complete information platforms on the sport of sailing and the nautical sector that currently exist in Spain

· With an average of around half a million unique monthly readers, Nauta 360 is one of the key references to keep informed of everything that happens in the world of sailing

The Nauta 360 Editorial Unit’s nautical portal has been honored this year with the Mariano Aguado Communication Award from the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards for its great contribution in disseminating the main news produced on the sport of sailing and nautical sector in Spain.

The jury that awards the awards has wanted to recognize the trajectory of Nauta 360 since it released moorings in 2011 under the umbrella of Editorial Unit (El Mundo, Marca and Expansión) to become one of the key references of specialized information in Spain.

Its nearly half a million unique monthly readers, with a percentage of 80-20 national and international, make Nauta 360 one of the platforms with the largest audience of Spanish nautical portals, who access it through the digital portal of Expansion, where it has a fixed section.

Héctor Atienza and Alberto Mas – Photo © Biel Aliño

At the controls of the portal are Héctor Atienza and Alberto Mas, who focus their work on two lines of information: the most relevant sports news (Copa América, Ocean Race, Vendée Globe, Copa del Rey, Olympic sailing…) and the great news of the nautical market (products, events, shows…), which they address with an editorial philosophy that seeks simplicity and clarity in the story.

Guidelines that have been maintained since the “Náutica” supplement of the newspaper El Mundo was created in 2004, a pioneer in the general media in Spain and the seed of what, after various evolutions, is now Nauta 360.

The journalist Alberto Mas, one of the portal’s coordinators, will be in charge of collecting the award at a gala to be held on September 7 at the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona.

Majorcan sailor Violeta del Reino, world champion in the women’s Hansa 303 class, adds a new distinction to her extensive resume of sporting successes after being recognized as best sailor of the year by the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards.

The jury that awards the prestigious awards wanted to reward her for the four podiums achieved in 2018, the year in which the gold medal of the Spanish Championship, the Spanish Cup, the European Championship held in Kiel (Germany) and the bronze of the world championship disputed in Sheboygan (USA).

Violeta del Reino, Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for best sailor of the year

Of Venezuelan origins, parents from Madrid and settled in Mallorca for years, Violeta suffered from an idiopathic cavus foot condition from a young age that later led to scoliosis problems in her back. At the age of 14 he had to undergo a triple arthrodesis, but his functional diversity never prevented him from setting numerous sporting challenges, which he has been facing since he started sailing at the age of 20.

His beginnings in sailing were lived in the Puerto de Andratx Sailing Club, for which he still sails today; and her good work took her to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, in which she achieved an Olympic diploma competing in Skud18 together with Sergi Roig.

In 2017 he achieved his first world championship in the Hansa 303 class, to which he also added gold in the Spanish Cup and silver in the European Championship. In this 2019 he has won the World Cup held in Cádiz, the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Championship. He also achieved third place in the European held in Austria.

The finishing touch to a spectacular season will be on September 7 at eight in the afternoon in Baiona when she collects the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the best sailor.

Two of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will go to the Real Club Náutico de Vigo this year, which the Monte Real Club de Yates will deliver in Baiona on September 7, coinciding with the celebration of the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy.

One of them, the one that will recognize the best Youth Team of the Year, will be taken by the crew of 420 formed by Martín Wizner from Vigo (Vigo, 2001) and Pedro Ameneiro from Pontevedra (Pontevedra, 2001), after achieving the greatest successes for the Galician youth sailing in 2018.

In the last 8 international competitions in which they participated, the Wizner-Ameneiro tandem won 7 medals: three gold at the 2018 Fremantle (Australia) World Championship, at the 2018 Sesimbra (Portugal) European Championship and at the Vilamoura World Championship (Portugal) 2019; one silver at the European Championships in Athens 2017 and three bronzes at Lago di Garda (Italy) 2017, Newport (USA) 2018 and Vilagarcía 2019. After three years of continuous success, the crew announced this summer their separation as a team, but they will still receive one last award before they go their separate ways. In just 12 days, on September 7, the athletes from the Vigo nautical team and the Galician team, awarded scholarships at the Galician Center for High Performance in Pontevedra, will collect in Baiona the award that distinguishes them as the best youth team of the year.

They will share the stage with a fellow club crew, that of the J70 Marnatura, who will collect the award that distinguishes them as Best One Design of the Year for their great sporting career in 2018, the year in which they chained several great successes.

They won the World Cup held in Massachusetts (USA) and the European Championship held in Vigo in the Corinthian division, for non-professional crews; remaining sixth and third respectively in the general classification.

Two titles for a young crew that emerged from the Vigo quarry, put together by the Freire family and trained by Ero Pons; made up of Enrique Freire as tactician, Gerardo Prego and Alberto Basadre as trimmers and Jorge Lorenzo in the bow.

At the helm, leading the team, Luis Bugallo from Vigo who, at 24, is one of the most outstanding names in Galician sailing today, with a background in dinghy sailing, cruisers, one-designs and who has participated in numerous competitions at a national and international level, such as the youth Copa América, in which he competed with Spanish Impulse.

After hearing the news, the young skipper was very pleased with the recognition he wanted to dedicate to the Freire family, without whom, Bugallo assured, the Marnatura project would not be possible. On September 7th they will add a new achievement in their career, that of having won the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the monodesign of the year for the achievement of the continental and world titles.

The gala of Premios Nacionales de Vela Terras Gauda will pay tribute next September 7 in Baiona to the Galicia 93 Pescanova, the boat that 25 years ago placed the Galician community on the international sailing map after achieving a podium position in the Whitbread Round the World 93-94.

Five decades after that feat, the team led by Javier de la Gándara from Vigo will receive a distinction for the best sports project at the Monte Real Club de Yates, the club that saw him leave Galicia to make history.

This is a new and well-deserved recognition for a major project that marked a before and after for sailing in Spain and for a crew that managed to conquer the seas aboard a WOR60 known as ” the flying fish” .

The boat, designed by Bruce Farr and built at the Armada de Vigo shipyards, brought together 16 sailors, 7 of them Galician, under the command of De la Gándara. Chuny Bermúdez from Coruña, Jaime Arbones, Marcos Iglesias, Juan Zarauza and Ñaco Eraso from Vigo, and Carlos Sampedro from Baiona; Barcelonans Jan Santana, Joan Vila, Nando Muñoz and Guillermo Altadill joined; Pichu Torcida and Toño Piris from Santander; Victor Unzueta from Cadiz, Paco Fernández from Alicante and Santi Portillo from Malaga.

With the encouragement of the Galician Sailing Federation, the institutional support of the Xunta de Galicia through the Xacobeo and the sponsorship of Pescanova, on May 7, 1993, the launching of the ship was held in Vigo, with the Infanta Cristina as godmother. who would participate in the Whitbread Round the World 93-94. Days later, the Galicia 93 Pescanova left the Monte Real Club de Yates for La Rochelle to take part in the Tour of Europe, which it won; and later in the Fastet Race, where they achieved the first victory for Spain in the legendary regatta. They were “training” for his great goal, which was to win the world tour.

On September 25, from Southampton, the starting point of the sixth edition of the race, they began to forge the legend. Until then, Spain had only participated in a trip around the world on 3 occasions (with the Licor 43 in the 81-82 edition, with the Fortuna Lights in 85-86, and with the Fortuna Extra Lights in 89-90), but this was the first time he did it with an entirely Spanish project, with Spanish sponsorships and crew, which would manage to get on the podium.

Ahead, almost 32,000 miles that meant an adventure, or “madness” as many branded it. They finished the first stage in second place, in the second stage they suffered delamination of the ship’s hull, and despite the fact that some gave it all up for lost, they continued. They fell to fourth place in the classification and in the fifth stage they managed to climb to third position, in which they would finally finish the test.

They made history. And the Galicia 93 project will remain forever in the memory of sailing enthusiasts. His impact, both sporting and social, was immense and his tribute, 25 years later, more than deserved. They will receive it in Baiona, on September 7, at the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards gala, which is held within the framework of the 34th Prince of Asturias Trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Military Naval School. They will receive the award for the best sports project.

The jury that awards the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards has decided to distinguish it with the Best Olympic Team award for being one of the most outstanding crews in Spanish Olympic sailing.

In 2016 both represented Spain in the 49er category of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, although they did not manage to get on the podium; and his team is one of the most promising assets for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics, an aspiration they are already working on.

With their sights and efforts focused on the Japanese event, Botín and Marra continue chaining awards and distinctions. One of the most outstanding was achieved in 2018 in Gdynia (Poland), when they climbed to the top of the 49er European podium. It was the second time that they managed to hang the gold from a European after the victory achieved in 2016.

In this 2019 they recorded their names again in the honor roll of the European held in the English city of Weymouth, although they had to settle for the bronze medal.

Santander Diego Botín, 25 years old; and Sonense Iago López Marra, born in Portosín (Galicia) in 1990; They achieved their first medal together in 2012 at the Palamós Christmas Race (Girona), in which they competed together. Two years later, in 2014, they met again and began to dream of the Olympics, a project that, after a year and a half of work, would bear its first fruits in 2016, with their participation in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, in which they were ninth.

Currently, from their seventh place in the 49er world ranking, they train with the national 49er coach Pepe Lis and compete to qualify Spain for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. They will try to make it in the World Cup in New Zealand and if they make it, they will still have to earn to be the ones competing in the games.

Also from a very young age Iago began to become familiar with sailing, a qualified naval engineer. He did it through the Real Club Náutico de Portosín, where he was born, where he sailed in Optimist, 420, 470 and finally 49er. Deporte Galego renews its support for the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School

The General Secretary for Sport, José Ramón Lete Lasa, has just signed with the president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez, the sponsorship contract by which the Xunta contributes a total of 9,000 euros to the entity for the activities of the Sailing School adapted for people with physical and mental disabilities.

After signing the agreement, both Lete and Álvarez assured that accessibility and inclusion must be priorities in sports practice, and that is why the Xunta and Monte Real join forces to fight for a sport “plural, diverse, without gender or age, for everyone, enriching society, transmitter of values, trainer, equalizer and engine of social change”, assured Lete Lasa.

“To achieve this sport we have to work day by day and join forces with all public administrations, Galician companies and society in general” , said the Galician president.

The General Secretary for Sport of the Xunta de Galicia described Monte Real as “an unbeatable partner” to achieve these objectives since -he recalled- the elimination of a large part of the club’s architectural barriers and the acquisition of adapted boats allowed it to become, in 2014, the only Spanish yacht club to receive a special distinction from the Association of Education Environmental and Consumer (ADEAC) for its work of social integration.

The MRCYB adapted Sailing School works throughout the calendar year and has been working continuously since 2012, being the only entity that carries out a program of these characteristics in the north of Spain.
