Adapted Sailing Courses
All year
Since 2012, the Monte Real Yacht Club has had an Adapted Sailing School, created with the aim of bringing people with functional diversity closer to the world of sailing, offering them the possibility of sailing under equal conditions. Since its launch, numerous associations of people with physical, mental, sensory or intellectual disabilities from all over Galicia have carried out activities in the club.
For people with mental and intellectual disabilities, Monte Real has a fleet of 6 Figaro Beneteau model sailboats, in which sailors, accompanied by skippers from the club, can learn first-hand the keys to navigation, as well as being able to participate in the maneuvers carried out on board.
For people with physical disabilities, the club acquired, thanks to the support of Fundación Repsol, several Gos 16, accessible, stable, safe and easy-to-handle boats, in which the crew sit on ergonomic seats from which they have full access to control the boat. The club also designed and built a special crane to facilitate access to boats for people with mobility difficulties.
In 2014, the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) awarded Monte Real a special distinction for its work in eliminating architectural barriers and caring for people with disabilities.
