· The thirty-eighth edition of the Repsol Trophy continues tomorrow, Saturday, with a cross-country regatta between Sanxenxo and Baiona

Baiona, May 1, 2015.- The crew of the Fifty, with a grímpola del Monte Real and Rui Ramada at the helm, completed this Friday a magnificent cross-country regatta between Baiona and Sanxenxo, achieving victory in the first stage of the Repsol Trophy. With a 12-knot wind pushing them from the stern for practically the entire route, the Portuguese covered the nearly 19 miles that separate the two coasts in just two and a half hours.

The Aceites de Abril, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, stayed with Fifty for a good part of the regatta, fighting very hard for victory. Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal’s men crossed the finish line just five minutes later and achieved a well-deserved second place. In third place in the ORC class was Bosch Service Solutions from the Club Marítimo de Canido, skippered by Ramón Ojea.

On the podium of the J80 of this stage, the organizing club made a triplet. The Mi Moneda by Guillermo Caamaño, the Virazón by Miguel Lago and the Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, were made with gold, silver and bronze respectively.

In the Figaro class, victory went to Ladeira, skippered by Octavio Villalba, who left Alberto Iglesias’ Tutatis in second position and Amparo Mollá’s Erizana in third.

At the end of the competition, an awards ceremony was held at the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, which was chaired by Repsol’s deputy director of marine and fishing, Carlos Sánchez Nieto, and the energy company’s head of port operations, Carlos Sanchez Grandson.

The Repsol Trophy returns to Baiona tomorrow, Saturday. At one in the afternoon, the regatta committee will give the start in Sanxenxo to a cross-country regatta that will be more complicated than today’s for the crews, since they will have to sail upwind, with an intense headwind, for practically the entire the tour.

The third and final day will be held on Sunday, with several tests at the Cíes Islands anchorage and the awarding of trophies at the Monte Real Yacht Club.
