· In the nautical event organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club, boats with crews made up of one or two sailors will compete at the most
· Participants must complete a 60-mile route through the Vigo, Pontevedra and Arousa estuaries ending in the Cíes Islands
· The trophy receives this year the name of I Memorial Rafael Olmedo in homage to the former president of the Baionese club who died last February
Baiona, June 9, 2015.- This weekend the Galician Solitaire and Two-Handed Championship – I Rafael Olmedo Memorial will be held in the Rías Baixas. In the nautical event, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the collaboration of the Baiona City Council, boats with crews made up of one or two sailors will compete at the most.
Participants must complete a route of about 60 miles through the Vigo, Pontevedra and Arousa estuaries, ending in the Cíes Islands. The route has several mandatory steps (the Carallones and La Negra beacons, the Cíes Islands, the Picamillo, Fajilda, Esqueiros and Ter marks, the Ons and Onza Islands and the Viños Islet) and the public can follow it from the Costa de la Vela and the O Grove peninsula.
The regatta will begin on Saturday the 13th at eleven in the morning and is scheduled to end at dawn on Sunday, with the arrival of the last boats on land. The duration of the test will depend on the ability of the crews and the weather conditions. On Sunday afternoon, the award ceremony for the winners will be held at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates.
Participating in this year’s edition, among others, will be the current Galician solo champion, José María Peinó, from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, who in 2014 won the championship aboard the U-47, and who year will compete in the A Two category.
Jesus Pintos will also be fighting for a podium position on the water, who last weekend, aboard the Victoria, won the penultimate scoring event for the Galician Solitaire and Two-Handed Championship.
