Baiona, July 26, 2015.- Intense fog and little wind marked the third stage of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which began to be held last Friday under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club and sponsored by SabadellGallego and Storax. .

After a first day in which the ORC 1, 2, and 3 classes competed, and a second for the ORC 4 class, and the one-design J80 and Fígaros, this Sunday all the boats entered in the championship went out on the water. The weather conditions prevented the two scheduled tests from being held and the boats had to compete for victory in a single regatta that began after half past two in the afternoon.

It was a fast and exciting test, with a windward-leeward technical course of about six and a half miles in the Vigo estuary, to the east of the Cíes Islands. Two upwind and two stern that the crews sailed with a fair wind of an average of 8 knots and some peaks of 10.

In the ORC 0-1 class, the Aceites Abril, which had won on the first day, once again demonstrated its power on the water. The brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, won the race held today and managed to win gold in their category. The silver and bronze remained in Monte Real. They went to Luis Bugallo’s Pairo 8 and Willy Alonso’s Castrosúa, respectively. The Arroutado of the Real Club Náutico de Portosín was left off the podium despite having achieved third place in today’s regatta.

In the ORC 2 class, the Corsario VI, owned by Javier Durán and the Club de Mar de Vilagarcía, was the winner of both the day and the general classification. In second and third position were Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions and DKV Seguros from Zamora, skippered by Juan Carlos de Ana.

In the ORC 3 competition there was no movement in a classification that was defined on the first day and was maintained until the end. The Fend la Bise of the Yacht Clube do Porto, with Jean Claude Sarrade at the helm; Punta Lagoa’s Unus, skippered by Luis Manuel García Trigo, and Unai Basurko’s Pottoka, from Club Pakea; They were first second and third respectively.

There was also no change to the podium layout of the ORC 4. Pablo Conde’s El Enxuto, from the Galway Bay Sailing Club; the Margem do Azul III by Frederico Lopes, from Monte Real; and the Rui Peixoto smoker, of the DFH Guimaraes; they achieved gold, silver and bronze after staying in first, second and third position since the beginning of the trophy.

More exciting was the real-time competition of the J80 monotypes, who fought hard for the victory and stayed very close to each other in the classification, moving up and down in the different tests. Miguel Lago’s Virazón, from the Monte Real Yacht Club, won the race held this afternoon, but the overall victory was finally for Jacobo Vecino’s Mi Moneda, also from the Baionese club. In second position, another ship from Monte Real, the Luna Nueva, by Juan Luis Tuero; and in third, the Náutico Cormorán, by Rodrigo Alonso.

In the Figaro class, Carlos Hernández’s Erizana, with a crew of students from the Monte Real Sailing School, did a fantastic job on the water, prevailing in all the tests and achieving first place overall. Second and third place went to Genoveva Pereiro’s Bouvento and Victor Calviño’s Silleiro, both from the Baiona club.

With the awards ceremony for this fortieth edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, the Monte Real Club de Yates is starting the countdown to another of its great competitions, the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, which will be held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of September.
