Alex Pella will receive the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the best solo ocean sailor in Baiona

For the third time in his 42 years of life and for the second consecutive year, the Catalan sailor and sailor, Alex Pella, will receive one of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards. On September 5, at the Monte Real Yacht Club in Bayonne, he will collect the award that distinguishes him as the best solo ocean sailor 2014-2015. This is an award with which the awards jury wants to recognize the feat achieved by Pella in 2014, when he became the first Spaniard to win a solo ocean regatta.

On November 19, after 16 days, 17 hours, 47 minutes and 8 seconds sailing alone aboard the Tales II, Pella victoriously entered the port of Point-á-Pitre (Guadeloupe) and won one of the most important regattas in the world. , the Route du Rhum. It also broke the record for the crossing in Class 40, in which it competed with 43 other boats, and it did so with a one hundred percent Spanish project, in which professionals from different autonomous communities participated.

Last year, the Catalan also became the first Spaniard to receive the Trophée Course Open 2014, awarded to him by the Union National pour la Course au Large. A prestigious award that before him received patrons of the stature of Loick Peyron, Roland Jourdain, Michel Desjoyeaux, Thomas Coville or Halvard Mabire, among others.

Today, Pella continues to train hard and participate in numerous regattas. With the EFG-Bank team from Monaco, he won the Sailing Arabia – The Tour last March; aboard the MOD 70 Musandam – Oman Sail he achieved the Tour of Ireland record and victory in the Armen Race; in June, he won the two Kiel Week regattas and in August he managed to come first in the English Artemis Challenge regatta.

One of his next stops will be in Baiona, where he will receive, for the third time, and for the second consecutive year, one of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards. Last 2014, the sailor was recognized as the best ocean sailor after achieving first place in the Tour of Europe “Route des Princes” and finishing second in the transoceanic “Transat Jacques Vabre”.

Pella went to Monte Real Club de Yates to collect the award aboard the Tales II, the boat with which months later he would win the Route du Rhum, for which he was awarded this year. The Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards 2014-2015 ceremony will take place on September 5 in Baiona, coinciding with the celebration of the thirtieth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy.
