The athletes will compete in a sprint triathlon starting at five in the afternoon in which they must complete 750 meters swimming, 20 kilometers by bicycle and 5 kilometers running through various beaches and streets of the town of Baiona

Baiona will host next Saturday, September 12, the I Solidarity Vertiathlon, an event organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Baiona council with the sponsorship of Verti Seguros and the collaboration of the Galician Triathlon Federation.
The sports competition, with the design of a sprint triathlon, will begin at five in the afternoon and will include three swimming, cycling and running events in the bay of Baiona and in various streets of the town. The participants of the different categories (cadet, junior, absolute and veteran), both female and male, must complete a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run.
The absolute first male and female classified will receive, as a prize, an annual car insurance courtesy of Verti Seguros; and among all the participants, eight other insurances valued at 300 euros each will be raffled .
The money raised with the more than 200 registrations of the participants will go entirely to the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club, which provides services to associations of disabled people in Galicia.
After a few years working with groups from Val Miñor, Tomiño and A Guarda, the school is currently seeking funding with the aim of being able to expand to offer these adapted navigation courses to centers throughout Galicia.
Sports helping each other in an incomparable setting
A spectacular tour in an incomparable setting. This is how the route of the I Solidarity Vertiathlon was defined by the president of the Galician Triathlon Federation, Oscar José Surís, who this Saturday will be participating as one more in the competition.
For the person in charge of FEGATRI, there are few triathlons in Spain that can boast of a stage like that of Baiona, an idea that the paratriathlete from Vigo and godmother of the Vertiathlon Susana Rodríguez also insisted on. With a severe visual impairment due to her albino condition, Susana is the Galician and Spanish champion of the Paralympic duathlon, and last year she received the title of Best Galician Athlete with a Disability. This Saturday he will swim and run alongside the more than 200 athletes who will participate in the Vertiathlon.
In the presentation to the media held this morning at the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club, the vice president of the Baiona club, Alejandro Retolaza, highlighted the sponsorship of Verti Seguros, without which, he said, this event could not be held. He also thanked the support of numerous companies and firms that will selflessly collaborate in the event and all the volunteers who will help with the organization on Saturday.
The vice president of Monte Real was very satisfied with the boost that the Vertiathlon will give the Club’s Adapted Sailing School, which aspires, he said, to continue growing so that many more people can practice sailing under equal conditions.
A tour of the fishing village
The I Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona will begin with the swimming test, in which the participants must swim the distance that separates the beaches of Barbeira and A Ribeira. Both sandbanks are located in the urban center of the town of Baiona, at the foot of the wall that surrounds the Monte Boi peninsula, separated by the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club.
At the end of the swim, the participants will pick up their bikes on the basketball courts in the La Palma area and prepare for the second of the tests, the cyclist, which will include four laps between two of the roundabouts that give access to Baiona , that of Baredo and that of Santa Marta.
The last of the sprint triathlon tests will be the foot race, and it will be held in one of the most visited places in Baiona, the Parador Nacional. Athletes must complete two laps of the walled enclosure of the Monterreal peninsula, also known as the Monte Boi peninsula.
Special operation in Baiona
To guarantee the correct celebration of the I Solidarity Vertiathlon of Baiona, next Saturday the 12th, the city council will carry out a series of traffic cuts in some points of the town. They will imply, according to Mayor Jesús Vázquez Almuiña, a small effort on the part of the citizens, but they will be, he said, for a good cause.
The N-550, from the gas station roundabout to the Baredo roundabout, will remain completely closed from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be duly signposted alternative itineraries for all those cars that wish to cross the town.
A little later, between 18:30 and 19:30, the most difficult point for circulation will be the entrance to the Parador de Baiona. Traffic will not be cut off, but it will be controlled by members of the Local Police.
During all these cuts, the Baiona taxi rank will be moved to Brasil street, in front of the health center, a place to which the public transport stops located on the N-550 will also be moved.
