Baiona, November 12, 2016.- Aboard the Okofen, the historic sailor from Vigo, Javier de la Gándara, consolidated his leadership this Saturday in the Banco Sabadell Class J80 Trophy, which disputed its third day in the Bay of Baiona with very complicated conditions for navigation.
Very intense showers at times and a very light and very shifty wind greatly hindered the work of the regatta committee, which was able, despite everything, to start two tests for the J80 fleet called by the Monte Real Club de Yates in its league of autumn
There were two windward-leeward routes in which the monotypes, with few exceptions, achieved very different results. In the first race, Miguel Lago’s Virazón clearly prevailed, moving away from the rest of the boats from the opening minutes and comfortably crossing the finish line in first position.
In the second race, however, Virazón had less luck and fell to fifth place, just the opposite of Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who rose from sixth to first and reaffirmed their leadership of the competition.
With 11 points in the general classification, De la Gándara’s crew moves away from their rivals and Okofen is one step away from winning the Banco Sabadell Class J80 Trophy, which will be decided at the end of the month on the last day of tests.
As for the rest of the qualifiers, it is worth noting the performance of Luis de Mira’s Namasté, who entered the provisional podium after abandoning the fourth place that he had been dragging since the start of the championship and moving up to second, unseating Miudo from that position, skippered by Tiago Roquette from Porto.
Also to be distinguished on this third day are the crew of Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, one of the most regular, with two second places in the two races held; and the incorporation of a new boat to the J80 fleet of Baiona, in Cansino, owned by Fernándo Yáñez and Ignacio Sánchez Otaegui, which will compete from now on with the rest of the monotypes.
Thus, with De la Gándara’s Okofen in the lead, Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Tiago Roquette’s Miudo in second and third position separated by just one point, and the rest of the fleet more grouped in the rest of the positions , the excitement continues to know who will finally win the Banco Sabadell Class J80 Trophy from the Monte Real Yacht Club.
