The Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Club de Yates has just received a new recognition for its work. The Baiona council awarded him a special mention at its VIII Sports Gala, held this weekend in the fishing village.
The School, launched more than a decade ago, has as its main objective to offer people with functional diversity the possibility of practicing sailing on equal terms.
But although at first it was created solely for people with different disabilities (physical, sensory, intellectual or mental), in recent years it has been expanded and, currently, it also offers activities for the elderly, children under guardianship and women victims of gender violence.
Since its creation in 2012, hundreds of students from groups and associations from different parts of Galicia have passed through it to navigate the bay of Baiona in the club’s adapted boats.
· The boat of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña skippered by the champion of Finn Miguel Fernández Vasco was placed at the head of the classification this Sunday
· An offline in the penultimate test held cost the current Spanish J80 champion Juan Carlos Ameneiro the first place in the table
· Solventis led by Malalo Bermúdez de Castro is third and the Portuguese Marías and 4 Jotas complete the Top 5 of the winter league
· The one design championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates will return to the water on May 27 to contest the sixth and final stage
After staying at the top of the standings since the start of the competition, the current Spanish J80 champion, Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto, from Monte Real Club de Yates, lost the lead this Sunday at the hands of Fibra Coruña led by Miguel Fernández Vasco , of the Royal Nautical Club of A Coruña.
An out of line of the Alboroto in the penultimate test played, together with the entry into play of a discard, which allowed the crews to eliminate their worst result from the classification, were the key elements of this and other changes that occurred in the table .
Despite the ups and downs of this last day, there are five boats that continue to stand out above the rest of the fleet in the Monte Real one-design group. They are two Portuguese, Manel Cunha’s Marías and Joaquim Moreira’s 4 Jotas; and the three Spaniards, Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto, Malalo Bermúdez’s Solventis and Miguel Fernández Vasco’s Fibra Coruña.
They all fought again, this Sunday, the three tests disputed. And it is that after the disappointment experienced on Saturday with the weather, which did not allow the celebration of the day, this Sunday the conditions were adequate and the J80 went out with more desire than ever to the water.
The race committee made a first attempt to get closer to the Cíes Islands course to place the route there, but there was a lot of swell and a lot of waves, and finally they decided to hold the tests inside the Bay of Baiona.
In that location, with a slightly rough sea but with a fairly stable northwesterly wind, which kept blowing between 10 and 12 knots, it was possible to start three windward-leeward type tasks, since the area does not allow, for its dimensions, a suitable trapezoidal design.
The first race featured 4 Jotas, Marías, Solventis, Alboroto and Bica de Chisco Catalán, skippered on this occasion by Luis Pérez Canal. Everyone maintained their options for a good part of the tour, but the final victory went to Marías.
In the second sleeve of the day, in which the wind dropped somewhat in intensity and the course was sniped to make it somewhat shorter, there were several out of lines. The most outstanding, for what they implied for the final classification, were those of Alboroto, Solventis and Marías, who were playing for the top positions in the table and with this penalty they were in danger of losing them.
The test, the sixth of the competition, also caused a discard to come into play, which made things even more exciting for the last round of the day, the third, in which the fiercest fight was staged by Alboroto de Ameneiro and the Fibra Coruña of Fernández Vasco.
The positions of honor were at stake, they knew it, and they went for it all, staying very close to each other throughout the journey. Finally, those from A Coruña managed to cross the finish line first and jump from third to first position, placing themselves as leaders of the competition with 15 points.
Just one point away, with 16, the Rampage appears with the provisional silver; and Solventis, with 22, holds the bronze. The Portuguese Marías and 4 Jotas close the Top 5, with 30 and 37 points respectively.
Thus, after having crossed off the calendar the first five days (of which only three could be navigated) of the Baitra J80 Winter League, the competition only has the final stage left, for which we will have to wait until the end of May. It will be on the 27th when the last three tests of the winter league will be put into play, conditions permitting, and in which the prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Before that, the Monte Real Club de Yates will put its first two trophies of the season on the line, the CdeC Trophy, on April 22; and the Repsol Trophy, on April 29 and 30 and May 1.
In both competitions, for which the Notice of Regatta has already been published and the registration period is open, the J80s will once again have their own category in which to compete in real time and continue preparing for the World Championship next September.

With just four races held in the three previous days, in which the wind made navigation difficult for the sailboats, there are still nine more races ahead with which to try to turn the classification around.
As of the sixth round, which is expected to take place this weekend, the teams will be able to discard their worst result, something that will almost certainly redefine the scoring table.
For this Saturday the weather forecast announces a very good wind, from the south, above 15 knots and with gusts that could reach up to 30 knots. On Sunday, despite the fact that less intensity is expected, the reports indicate that the wind will not drop below six knots.

The boat from A Coruña, led by the recently bronze medalist in the Finn World Cup, and crewed by Esteban Martínez de la Colina, Enrique Vilariño and Pablo Mijares, achieved two first places and a third place in the three races held.
These results allowed it to rise from the tenth position, which it trailed from previous days, to third place in the standings, also making it clear that it is a team to be taken into account by the rest of the rivals in the Monte Real Club de Yates league. .
And it is that this 38-year-old from A Coruña, a regular in the Finn class, with 11 Spanish cups, 4 national titles, a gold in the 2022 European Championship, and a bronze in the 2023 World Cup, has begun to take hold of him. the trick also to the J80, and already looks ahead to the World Cup that will be held in Baiona next September.
Fernández Vasco will attend the World Cup event with his crew of junior boys and girls from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, and this J80 League is serving them all as training to get to the championship in the best possible shape.
This third round of the 8-meter one-design group was held in Baiona Bay to avoid the somewhat harsher conditions in the vicinity of Cíes.
Despite everything, the conditions were very good, and the gusty wind from the south that blew throughout the afternoon always remained above 12 knots, with an average of 14, even reaching 20 per moment.
Five boats were the ones that stood out above the rest of the fleet on this day: Fibra Coruña by Miguel Fernández Vasco, Solventis by Malalo Bermúdez de Castro and Alberto Moro, Alboroto by Juan Carlos Ameneiro and the Portuguese Marías and 4 Jotas, by Manel Cunha and Joaquim Moreira.

· The J80 fleet that has been competing in Baiona in the Baitra J80 Winter League since last February hopes to be able to play the third day this Saturday
· After a first stage in which only one test could be held and a second stage suspended due to lack of wind, the J80s are eager to race
· Everything indicates that the weather will favor them this weekend and they will be able to continue scoring in the tests scheduled from three in the afternoon
The Galician J80 fleet hopes to be able to play, this Saturday, the third day of the Baitra J80 Winter League, which since it began last February, has barely been able to hold one of the six scheduled tests.
The whims of the wind, which in the initial two days did not blow with sufficient intensity, prevented the J80 from scoring beyond a single task held in the opening stage. It was won by Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto, and it served the current Spanish champion of the class to place himself at the top of the table, where he has remained ever since.
The second day was completely blank, without wind, without tests and without new points in the table. And this is how it will arrive, this Saturday, at the third of the six phases that make up this 2023 winter league of the Monte Real Club de Yates.
A competition that is disputed by a total of 26 monotypes, the highest number of entries since the League has been held. And it is that the proximity of the J80 World Cup to be held in Baiona next September, has encouraged Galician shipowners and sailors to participate in these previous trophies, which serve as training for the World Cup event.
For this Saturday, the parties are more positive. They announce winds from the south that will blow with an average of about 12 knots and peaks that could approach or even exceed 20 knots.
After the first position of the table, which is occupied by the Rampage of Juan Carlos Ameneiro, Juan Lago, Javier Lago and Javier Aguado; In second and third position, the Maija, by Castor Alonso; and the Miudo, by Marga Cameselle.
The J80 Winter League of the Monte Real Club de Yates is celebrated, one more year, thanks to the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales.

And they ended by narrating how the initiatives put in place and the great evolution registered allowed them to organize, in recent years, two Spanish Championships of the class; and to be chosen, in this 2023, to celebrate the J80 World Championship, becoming the first club in Galicia to achieve this milestone.
Another of the topics addressed at this biannual congress was the Club’s Adapted Sailing School, in which people with disabilities sail throughout the year in adapted boats and with specialized trainers.
