Pablo Marquina sentences the Baitra League

  • After having managed to place himself in first position on the penultimate day of tests, the sailor from Monte Real sentenced the competition this Sunday and took the victory
  • At just 11 years of age, the young sailor adds a new triumph to a spectacular year in which he chained several prizes in different nautical competitions
  • The Optimist winners’ podium is completed by his brother Yago Marquina and Nacho Salgueiro, and the winners of the 420 class were Nico Domínguez and Yago González

After having managed to sneak onto the winners’ podium on the penultimate day of testing, the sailor from the Monte Real Club de Yates Pablo Marquina sentenced the Liga Social Baitra this Sunday after taking partial victory of the day and gold in the final general classification .

At just 11 years of age, the young sailor thus adds a new triumph to a spectacular year in which he chained several prizes in different nautical competitions. After receiving a special award for the youngest sailor in the last edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, Marquina made it onto the podium of the Galician Optimist Championship and was also proclaimed the Under-11 Champion of the Granitos Ibéricos Trophy.

With this new victory in the Baitra Social League, Marquina concludes a brilliant season in which, according to his coach Samuel Montouto, he stood out for his great effort and dedication, qualities that – Montouto assures – allowed him to achieve great progression and climb positions in the classification until taking the final victory.

Silver and bronze in the Optimist class went to Yago Marquina and Nacho Salgueiro, who fought until the end for second and third place, finishing with 42 and 43 points respectively, just 6 shy of victory.

In the 420 class, the tandem Nico Dominguez and Yago González, who had been leaders since the penultimate day, finally managed to win. They received their award from the manager of Baitra, Juan Carlos González, sponsor of the event, and one of the main promoters of grassroots sailing in Galicia.

At the Baitra Social League awards ceremony, diplomas were awarded to all the initiation students of the Monte Real Yacht Club Sailing School, an award to Aitana Pérez as the best sailor of the season; and a special distinction to his coach Diego Montouto.

From the Maritime Club of Canido, which joined the Monte Real competition with a group of students, Jorge Troncoso and Nico Barreiro received the award, who were tied on points after the weekend tests and took the first and second prizes of the regatta in the Optimist class.

With the closure of the Liga Social Baitra and the arrival of summer, the Monte Real Club de Yates launches its summer program, in which it hopes to receive some 400 people in the different activities it offers. Light sailing and cruise courses, in the morning and in the afternoon for children and adults, getaways to the Cíes Islands, sunsets on a sailboat and night navigation practices are some of the proposals offered by the historic Baionese club.

Pablo Marquina dominates the final of the Baitra Social League

· The young sailor, barely 11 years old, won all the races held today and took the lead in the general standings, unseating his brother Yago Marquina
· In the 420 class, the team formed by Nico Domínguez and Yago González is leading and in the initiation class, Aitana Pérez and Jacobo Miranda compete for gold.
In addition to the competitive section, the Baitra Social League Final is having a more playful part, aimed at bringing the public closer to the world of regattas
· The competition will be decided tomorrow, Sunday, with the second and last day of tests starting at 11 in the morning in the waters of the Bay of Baiona

The young sailor from the Monte Real Club de Yates, Pablo Marquina, just 11 years old, was the clear protagonist of the penultimate day of the Baitra Social League, which was held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona.

Overcoming the difficulties of a fairly light wind that marked the development of the tests, Marquina managed to prevail in the four races held. He was, without a doubt, the best in the Optimist class and his excellent results allowed him to rise to first place in the general classification of the Liga Social Baitra, from which he ousted his brother Yago Marquina.

In the 420 class, and with the absence of the crew of Sandra Trigo and Rosalía Martínez, who started as favorites, the day’s victory went to the team made up of Nico Domínguez and Yago González. They signed the first four in the four contested races and put the provisional gold in their pocket, which they will try to sentence tomorrow.

In the initiation class, gold and silver are disputed between Aitana Pérez and Jacobo Miranda, aged 9 and 12. Between the two they shared, this Saturday, the first positions of the opening day and, except for last minute surprises, everything indicates that tomorrow, Sunday, they will climb the winners’ podium.

In addition to the competitive section, the Final of the Baitra Social League organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates is having a more playful part, aimed at bringing the public closer to the world of regattas so that they can get to know it first-hand. Thus, the Baionese club today took two special boats out into the water, one with parents and the other with children, so that they could see the course of the regattas from the water.

This year, in addition, the Monte Real Sailing School decided to invite the Canido Maritime Club to participate in its big weekend, and ten children from the club from Vigo came to Baiona to compete. Among all of them, Jorge Troncoso, 15 years old, stood out, finishing all the tests in first or second position.

The Baitra Social League will be decided tomorrow, Sunday, with the second and last day of tests, which will be held from eleven in the morning in the Bay of Baiona. Although the weather conditions will determine the sports program, the regatta committee’s intention is to start three tasks that would maintain the trapeze design of the first day.

Once the regattas are over, the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates will host the awards ceremony for the winners. It will be around four in the afternoon and will be attended by the manager of Baitra Accesorios Navales, Juan Carlos González, as sponsor of the event; the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal, representing the city council; the president of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde; and the president, commodore and vice commodore of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez, Fernando Yáñez and Genoveva Pereiro.

The Monte Real Sailing School says goodbye to the season with the Baitra Trophy and launches its summer program

  • A competition of two days of regattas will put the end to a season of ten months of activities in which about 150 students participated
  • With the arrival of summer, the Monte Real Sailing School launches its summer program of activities in which they hope to receive some 400 people
  • Light sailing courses for children, cruise courses for adults, getaways to the Cíes Islands, sunsets on a sailboat and night navigation practices are some of the proposals

More than fifty sails will fill the bay of Baiona this weekend to bid farewell to the 2017-2018 season of the Monte Real Club de Yachts Sailing School, which marks the end of the stage with the celebration of the Baitra Trophy.

This concludes more than ten months of activity in which, since last September, around 150 students have participated in the dinghy, cruising and adapted sailing courses for people with disabilities that the historic Baionese club organizes at its facilities.

With the arrival of good weather and the holidays, Monte Real is now preparing to receive the 400 people who are expected to participate in the club’s summer activities. With the arrival of summer, the figures multiply and the program expands both in terms of hours and proposals.

Dinghy sailing and cruising, morning and afternoon courses for children and adults, getaways to the Cíes Islands, sailboat sunsets and night sailing practices are some of the proposals for learning to sail designed under the premise of “Sailing for everyone and everyone the levels”. That is the main objective of a training and leisure program that Carlos Rúa has been coordinating for years.

A coach at the school since 2009 and in charge of it since 2013, Rúa is very clear about the direction to follow, a roadmap that goes through demystifying the idea that sailing, at least in terms of courses, It is an expensive sport, and to extend it to anyone who wants to practice it, regardless of their age or condition.

“From the club we offer everyone, whether they are children or adults, whether or not they know how to navigate, whether or not they have disabilities, the possibility of entering the world of sailing because we are certain –says Carlos Rúa- that, once they get to know it, they will end up feeling the same passion for this sport as we do”.

Rúa invites those who want to “get infected” to watch the regattas this weekend in Baiona, where boys and girls from the age of 7 will sail. The sailing days framed in the Baitra Trophy, with which the Sailing School season ends, will be held in the bay of Baiona on Saturday from twelve noon and on Sunday from eleven.

The Baitra League gathers 50 boats this weekend in Baiona

  • Between Saturday and Sunday, the last tests of the Baitra League are held in the Bay of Baitra, which the Monte Real Club de Yates organizes throughout the year
  • About 70 children between 7 and 17 years old from the Optimist classes and 420 will haggle in a competition created with the aim of promoting children’s sailing in Galicia
  • Yago Marquina starts as the favorite to take the gold in the Optimist class and Sandra Trigo and Rosalía Martínez will try to revalidate the title achieved in 2017

After almost 10 months of competition and 20 disputed regattas, this weekend the Baitra League is decided in Baiona, in which more than fifty children between 7 and 17 years old, from the Optimist classes, participate since last September. and 420.

The competition, created by the Monte Real Club de Yates and Baitra Accesorios Navales to promote children’s sailing in Galicia, comes to an end with the last tests that will finish drawing the winners’ podium.

Little Yago Marquina, a sailor since he was 8 years old and currently 12, starts as the favorite to win the gold in the Optimist class. With 27 points, he is first in the standings, followed a short distance behind by Nacho Salgueiro and his brother Pablo Marquina, with 32 and 33 points respectively.

In the 420 class, the tandem formed by Sandra Trigo and Rosalía Martínez has all the tricks to revalidate the title achieved in 2017, when they managed to climb to the top of the podium. This year, after finishing third in the women’s section of the Baitra Trophy, held in February, they are back with a vengeance to once again win the league’s grand prize.

Both the Optimist and the 420 will compete in the last rounds of the Baitra League in a regatta field that will be located inside the bay of Baiona, very close to the coast, so that anyone who wants to can enjoy the competition from the surrounding beaches.

On Saturday the sleeves will start at noon and on Sunday they will be a little earlier, with a scheduled start at eleven in the morning. The small sailors will have to complete several routes in the form of a trapeze, which will score on the current classification to define the final result.

In addition to the students from the Monte Real Yacht Club Sailing School, this year a group of sailors from the Club Marítimo de Canido will join the competition, with whom the club from Baiona maintains a very good relationship, which has allowed for exchanges and joint activities for years.

Several Omega boats from Monte Real will also go out on the water, although already out of competition, in which boys and girls for beginners to sailing will be on board, so that they can live the experience of the regattas from within.

The Social League will end with the awards ceremony for the winners, on Sunday at four in the afternoon, in which the manager of Baitra, Juan Carlos González, will participate as sponsor of the event and one of the main promoters of children’s sailing in Galicia; and several representatives of the Baiona city council and the board of directors of Monte Real.

The Monte Real Club de Yates celebrates six years normalizing functional diversity

  • This morning, the Baionese club held the closing ceremony of the sixth year of its Adapted Sailing School for people with functional diversity
  • More than 300 students with physical, psychosocial, cognitive and sensory disabilities have sailed since 2012 in the adapted boats of Monte Real
  • Members of the Department of Social Policy, Galician Sports and Fundación Repsol attended the event as the main supporters of the club’s initiative

The Monte Real Club de Yates celebrated this morning in Baiona the sixth birthday of its Adapted Sailing School, created in 2012 with the aim of bringing the world of sailing closer to people with functional diversity, thus promoting their integration into society.

Over the last six years, more than 300 students with physical, psychosocial, cognitive and sensory disabilities have sailed on the club’s adapted boats thanks to the inclusive sailing courses that Monte Real has organized with the support of Fundación Repsol and the Xunta de Galicia through the Department of Social Policy and Galician Sport.

Improving the physical and emotional level of people with disabilities, increasing their self-esteem, encouraging relationships between colleagues, generating motivation and allowing them to enjoy direct contact with nature, bringing them closer to the sea, are the main benefits achieved with this type of activity , driven from the only school in the northwest of the peninsula that operates throughout the year.

The last students who have passed through Monte Real to participate in its “Vela para todos” program are users of associations such as the Juan María de Nigran Center, the Redondela Center for the Disabled and the Galician Association against Diseases Neuromuscular (ASEM Galicia). They have attended dinghy sailing and cruising courses, have sailed through the Bay of Baiona and have come to participate in high-level competitions such as the Prince of Asturias Trophy.

This Wednesday, as a finishing touch to their activities, they have attended the closing ceremony of the school and have received some diplomas that certify their participation in the courses.

During the event, the president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez, recalled how education and employment have always been the two basic pillars to achieve full social inclusion, and how the club has bet – by a third pillar, that of sports practice.

“Ensuring that everyone who wants to can practice sport under equal conditions has been, from the beginning, our main objective and also our challenge. A challenge –he assured- that we have assumed a huge responsibility for everything that it implies” . It is about, said Álvarez, integrating people with disabilities into society as normally as possible, and nautical practice, from its most playful to the competitive section, is a form as good or better than any other, said the president of the Monte real.

The Adapted Sailing School of the Baionese club currently has three GOS16 boats, a type of stable and safe boat that makes navigation easier for these people. It also has a specific crane so that students can access the boats more easily, an adapted path for them to travel through the club safely and several monitors specifically trained to teach them to navigate.

The closing ceremony of the sixth year of the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School was attended this Wednesday by the regional deputy director for the promotion of autonomy of the Xunta de Galicia, Luis Miguel Vázquez; the head of the dependency service of the regional government, José Ignacio Martínez; and the provincial head of sports, Daniel Benavides. Also present were the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; and several managers from Fundación Repsol, Luisa Roldan and Ana Ferguson from the Social Area and Inés González from Repsol’s marine and fishing department.

Several members of the Board of Directors attended on behalf of the Baionese club, and Vice President Alejandro Retolaza was in charge of closing the act. In his speech he made a brief review of the past, present and future of the Adapted Sailing School, like a dream -he said- that they could finally make a reality, and that they hope to continue consolidating in the coming years.

Retolaza also announces the celebration, on September 15, of the fourth edition of the Vertiathlon, a solidarity triathlon with which the club raises funds for its Adapted Sailing School.

Javier de la Gándara from Vigo added this weekend a new title to his prolific career as a sailor by winning the Galician Two-handed Championship, held in the Rías Baixas under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Royal Galician Federation of Candle.

He did it hand in hand with Diego Fernández, one of his regular crew members on the Okofen , with whom he won bronze in the J80 Spanish Championship last May, and with whom he sealed the competition on this occasion, taking all three titles in dispute.

The Okofen took the victory after compensating for the times of a regatta in which the fastest boat was the Clínicas Gaias of the Real Club Náutico de Portosín. Skippered by José María Peinó and crewed by Ramón Quiroga, the sailboat completed the more than 35 round-trip miles between Baiona and the Camouco Lighthouse, in the Ons archipelago, in just over 6 hours.

He was the first to cross the finish line of a regatta that started punctually at eleven o’clock in the morning from the interior of the bay of Baiona, with a scarce wind that gradually dropped and complicated navigation for the crews in the area of Carallones. As the test progressed, the wind increased in intensity, even reaching 14 knots at times, and the sailboats were able to move forward with ease.

After the Gaias Clinics , the second to cross the finish line was the MBA Atlántico , owned by Rui Ramada and Afonso Leite, another of the outstanding boats in the competition. He was the fastest in the first few miles of the route and remained in the lead for much of the route, which allowed him to take silver in the A Two 1 category. The bronze in this class went to the SND Cormorán , owned by Pablo Cabello and Francisco Javier Martínez.
