The Virazón del Monte Real Club de Yates consolidates its leadership in the SabadellGallego Class J80 League after the fantastic results achieved on the second day of the competition, held this Saturday in the Bay of Baiona.

The crew skippered by Miguel Lago achieved three first places in the three tests held this afternoon, with waves of about 3 meters and a wind that remained at about 14 knots until the end of the competition, when it fell in intensity.

His biggest rival in the water was again, one more day, Guillermo Caamaño’s Alumisel. He put up a fight in all the races, but he couldn’t unseat Virazón from the first position in any of them. Both are still first and second in the general classification, but the minimum distance that separated them after the first day, of just one point, is now 7 points.

Where there were changes was in the third drawer of the provisional podium, which is now occupied by Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, after unseating Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, absent on this second day of the competition.

The Namasté by Luis de Mira and the Pazo de Cea by María Campos complete the classification of the J80 Class League organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and sponsored by SabadellGallego, with the collaboration of Vitaldent and the Xunta de Galicia.

The competition will continue on November 14 with a new day in the bay of Baiona. Before the awards ceremony, three more tests will be held on November 28.

The Virazón del Monte Real Club de Yates leads the J80 Class SabadellGallego League after winning the first day of tests held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona.

The crew, skippered by Miguel Lago, carried out three fantastic regattas in a day in which the gusty and shifty wind also wanted to be the protagonist. It blew with about 15 knots on average, reaching 26 at times, and its constant changes forced the committee to make changes to the course on two occasions.

In spite of everything, the fleet was able to dispute the three tests foreseen in the regatta program. In the first, which started promptly at three in the afternoon, Virazón managed to cross the finish line first, followed by Luna Nueva and Alumisel.

Miguel Lago’s team repeated victory in the second of the tests, leaving second and third place for Guillermo Caamaño’s Alumisel and Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes respectively.

In the last regatta of this first day, the crew of the Alumisel, who had achieved a third and a second in the previous tests, managed to climb the missing step and take first place, leaving Ferralemes and Virazón behind. .

Thus, Virazón is placed, with 5 points, provisional leader of the J80 Class SabadellGallego League, closely followed by Alumisel, with 6 points. A little further away is Ferralemes, with 11 points. Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, Namasté by Luis de Mira and Pazo de Cea by María Campos complete the classification.

J80, a booming fleet throughout Spain

The J80 are a type of boat on the rise in Spain in recent years. The boost given to these monotypes by the National J80 Association and the different Spanish yacht clubs has allowed this type of boat to grow considerably, both in number and quality.

In Galicia, the fleets from A Coruña and Baiona especially stand out, as they have won a large part of the victories in the different competitions held in the autonomous community throughout 2015.

Last September, Pablo Martínez’s Marina Coruña, from the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, won the Iberian J80 Championship. Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes and Miguel Lago’s Virazón, both from the Monte Real Club de Yates, won silver and bronze, respectively.
