Monte Real Club de Yates was founded in 1965 and Mr. Rafael Olmedo has been its president since 1973. The club has been using the fortified area called “Batería del Cangrejo” (Crab’s Battery) from the 14th century in the Monterreal peninsula of the villa de Baiona.

Club de Yates’ philosophy is based on two fundamental premises:

  • Encouragement of international nautical tourism
  • Organization of international regattas

With these premises in mind, Monte Real has organized various editions of the Lymington Bayona, various European and World championships and several level one Mach Race regattas.

On the other hand, Monte Real became in 1989 the first Spanish sailing club to challenge the America’s Cup, the oldest sports competition. So far the club has taken part in this competition three times.

The emblematic regatta of the club is the one named after its Honorary President, the Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias, which has been held non-stop since 1986 and which, on every edition, attracts the best regatta competitors of high level sailing.

The presence of Monte Real Club de Yates in the international sailing panorama has gained it worldwide recognition. This recognition, its long tradition, and the welcoming seafaring atmosphere of its facilities make more sailors from all over the world choose the club to call port in their journey.
